Mrs. Ellen Dorthea Gavel
April 26, 1917 - November 5, 2007

On Monday, November 5, 2007 Ellen Dorthea Gavel passed away quietly at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert after a brief struggle with cancer. Ellen was born on the 26th of April 1917 in Bengough, SK to Otto and Tilda Strand. In the early 1930’s the Strand family abandoned the farm to the drought and moved to Rose Valley, SK. Not many years later in 1937 she met and married Thomas Gavel and together they farmed in the Rose Valley District and raised three sons, Gordon, Dale and Eldon. They retired in 1975 and then moved to Prince Albert where they were to enjoy six years of travel, camping and hosting family functions until Tom passed away in 1981. Mom went on to live independently enjoying her garden; her hobbies of quilting, knitting and crocheting and her crafts adorn many of her family’s households. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her oldest son Gordon and seven brothers and sisters. Surviving are siblings Otto Strand and Addie Baker of Calgary. Also surviving her are her other sons, daughters-in-law Andrea (Gordon), Aline (Dale), Irene (Eldon) and former daughter-in-law Joan, as well as grandchildren Colleen (Rick) Woo, Greg Gavel, Allison Gavel, Nicole (Kirby) Schepp, Jason (Teresa) Gavel, Darla (Scott) Ward, Brian (Karen) Gavel and ten great-grandchildren. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Rose Valley Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10th followed by a luncheon at the Rose Valley Seniors Center. It is the family’s request that in lieu of flowers donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL.

Three years later Garth moved to Regina to attend Canadian Bible College. While there he met and married Norma Bailey. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion at the age of 67 years. Mrs. Anna Marie Schmitke
June 13, 1915 - November 5, 2007

Marie passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2007, at the age of 92. She was born on the family farm at Holdfast, Sask. on June 13, 1915. Marie was the third child out of 13 children of John Dilschneider and Ottillia Schmidt. Marie attended Manheim School, a nearby one-room schoolhouse, and was living and helping out at home when she married a neighbour, Jake Schmitke, in 1950. Jake was the “love of her life”. They farmed on the Schmitke homestead, east of Holdfast, for many years before selling the farm and moving to Moose Jaw. There, Marie, a skilled seamstress, did professional sewing at their home. When her sister Sally and Sally’s husband Arnold Feusi moved to Prince Albert in 1989, Marie moved as well. She settled into her new home and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and doing crossword puzzles. Marie, along with her sister Sally, had a full time job supplying the family with all the latest knitting, crocheting, and crafts that were popular at any particular time. She was also very fond of helping Twyla with her school projects. Marie’s saying grace before meals became a tradition in our family. Marie was predeceased by her husband Jake, an infant child, three brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by one brother, Paul Dilschneider (Ruby) of Holdfast; four sisters – Florence Scherloski of Midland, Ontario; Dorothy Hamilton of Bruce Mines, Ontario; Donna Dilschneider of Lion’s Head, Ontario; and Darlene McGonegal (Sherman) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; numerous nephews and nieces, including Sally’s children, Twyla Simola (Erkki) and Tanny Swenson (Felipe Maya) of Prince Albert and Tim Feusi (Heather Carruthers) of Moose Jaw, as well as many grand and great-great-grand nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held in Moose Jaw at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Children’s Haven in Prince Albert would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Betty Louise Probe

Betty Louise Probe was caring, loving, and sincere. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, she will truly be remembered and missed. Betty was born on February 19, 1937 and passed away on November 8, 2007. She was raised in Weyburn, SK by her parents Oswald “Ossie” and Thelma Fisk of Kelowna, BC. Betty was part of the fabulous 5+1 with four sisters and one brother.
She was predeceased by her father Oswald in 1987; brother Charles in 1960; son Christopher in 1986; and husband Wayne in 2006.

She was a loving mother and grandmother to Michael (Debbie) and grandsons Greg and Ryan of Regina, SK, Dr.’s Leonard (Christine) and grandson Jonathan of Mantua, NJ and granddaughter Jennifer of Boca Raton, FL.
She loved to go in the motorhome on trips and was active in the Good Sam’s who have provided unbelievable love and support. We all benefited by knowing Betty and her strength and kindness will not be forgotten. She had a smile on her face to the end and never once complained. She is truly an inspiration and an example of what we all should be and how we should all treat each other. We love you and bid you farewell on your journey through eternity. GOD BLESS YOU.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK with interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Regina Funeral Home.
Grandma, I am sorry that I can’t be here today. About two months ago before you passed, I was able to visit you. I enjoyed every minute of it and will never forget the last days and minutes I spent with you before I had to leave to catch my flight. That trip meant more to me then any other trip I have ever taken in my life and I’m very fortunate and thankful that dad gave me the opportunity to see you one last time.
Grandma, one of the sweetest ladies you’ll ever meet. She loved her family very much and always made sure if you were in her presence that you were doing the right thing. Whether it be making sure you had good manners, especially at the table or just making sure you were using good judgment with anything in life. You were very supportive, loving and caring as a grandma, mom and wife.
Grandpa sure loved her. They were both always together shopping, visiting with the many friends they had, trips to many countries, and trips to visit different family members. Grandma and Grandpa were together for over 50 years and now once again they are reunited back together at the gates of heaven.
Love, Your Grandson, Jon
