Mrs. Bessie Deyo (nee, Elliott) of Extendicare Preston in Saskatoon, passed away suddenly July 27, 2001 at St.Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Bessie was born January 25, 1920 and raised in Caron, Sask. She married Harold Deyo in, 1939 and they resided in Moose Jaw for most of their married life. Bessie was an active member of the Royal Purple, being Honorary Lady and a lifetime member. Following Harold’s death in 1988, Bessie moved to Kelowna to live with her daughter, Marge. In April this year Bessie moved to Saskatoon to be close to her son, Stan and family. Bessie is survived by her daughter, Marge, son-in-law, Vern of Kelowna; son, Stan, daughter-in-law, Carrol; three grandchildren: Dan, Beverly ( Alvin ) Jamieson; and Nicole Deyo; great-grandchildren: Jessica Deyo, Katie and Brandon Jamieson; brothers: Jack Elliott, Bob (Gladys) Elliott of Lethbridge; sister, Ruth Walsh of Mission, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Elliott; her husband, Harold; brothers: Max and Wes Elliott; sisters: Maisy Vogelsang and Lena Quibel. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday August 1, 2001 at 1:30 pm. Bob Parker of the Church of Christ, Saskatoon will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot, Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Wednesday morning 10:00 to 11:00 at the Funeral Home. In living memory of Bessie, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. MARGARET TUNISON
MARGARET EVELYN (MULLINS) TUNISON passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8th, 2001, at the age of 79 years. Born and raised in Moose Jaw, Margaret married Warren in October 1945 and farmed 46 years in the Pitman district. Her family, friends, flowers and garden were all a very important part of her life. She will be sadly missed. Predeceased by her parents, Edward and Theresa Mullins, twin brothers in infancy and one sister, Kathleen. Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Warren; three daughters: Dianne (Ernie) Debert of Glen Bain, Donna (Larry) Larsen of Rouleau, Judy (Rick) Runge of Regina; eight grandchildren: Debbie (Tom) Collins, Teresa (Larry) Richards, Lynn (Tim) Kehoe, Terri (Guy) Larsen, Len (Lisa) Larsen, Tony (Adrienne) Larsen, Aaron (Leah) Runge, Colin (Amanda) Runge; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alice (Fred) Clifford of Ottawa, Ontario and Dorothy (Ernie) Jungabluth of Brockport, NY; two sisters-in-law: Madeline (Byron) Hantelman and Doreen Tunison of Regina as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Friday, May 11th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Carolyn Argue will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rouleau Cemetery. VERNA THOMAS
MRS. VERNA R. THOMAS of Moose Jaw, passed away on Monday, April 2nd, 2001 at the age of 85 years. Born at Morse, Saskatchewan on March 19th, 1916, she married Francis Lloyd Thomas in October, 1939. Verna and Lloyd were owners of Lakeview Lodge at Manitou Beach. She took great pride in operating the Lodge. Verna enjoyed her home and family and took great pleasure in all the family gatherings with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, and husband Lloyd in 1996. She is survived by her sons: Earl (Faye) of Saskatoon and George (Joyce) of Moose Jaw; three granddaughters: Carla (Justin) Giesbrecht of Estevan, Linda Thomas (Zia) of Regina and Donna Thomas (Shaun) of Assiniboia, one grandson, Jody (Nikki) Thomas of Moose Jaw; three great-granddaughters: Kendall Thomas-MacEacheran, Brandi Thomas and Brianna Giesbrecht and one sister, Dorothy Ballagh of Moose Jaw. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 6th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Linda Owens will officiate. Mrs. Eva Anderson of Moose Jaw, passed away February 7, 2002 at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her husband, Gehard; and daughter, Doreen Strevens. She is survived by son, Alfred (Minnie) Anderson - Grand Forks, B.C.; daughter: Pearl (Bill) Bowley - Moose Jaw; son-in-law, Fred Strevens - Moose Jaw; eight grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 558 Hochelaga Street East, on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Bill Portman and Reverend Ruth Taylor will officiate. MARJORIE MARY ANN KING passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2001 at the age of 88 years. She was born on April 11, 1913 in Delisle, Saskatchewan living in many Saskatchewan communities before residing in Moose Jaw for the past 51 years. Marjorie is predeceased by her mother and father, Julia and Henry Joseph Gesy; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Violet Gesy; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Milton Zoerb; son-in-law, Paul Wilcox; son-in-law, Bill Folgizan. Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by daughter and son-in-law, Alvera and Ray Marsh; daughters, Anita Folgizan and Leona King; son, Terry (Alison) Jordan; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mike and Maureen Marsh (Jeff and Kerry); Linda and Harv Woiden (Kristine and Laura); Gord and Linda Marsh (Kyle and Kevin); Barb and Randy Smith (Kendall and Cassidy); Scott and Jana Wilcox; Glen Wilcox and Wendy Malanchen; Camille Jordan; special extended family: Theresa-Marie and Doug Mintenko (Derek, Jered and Carlie); Vince and Ruth Folgizan (Aemil); Chris and Lee Anne Folgizan; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Elizabeth “Betty” Gillespie Morrison (nee McMurray) of Moose Jaw, passed away quietly on May 22, 2002 at Pioneer Lodge. Betty was born in Rutherglen, Scotland on March 25, 1911. She came to Canada in 1927, settling in Rouleau, Sask. where she met husband, Bill. They were married on November 12, 1931, moving to Lashburn, Sask. They then moved to Dummer, Sask. for a brief period of time before coming to Moose Jaw in 1943. Betty was devoted to her family and friends. She taught her number “ONE” sons to look after themselves and each other. Betty worked at the Moose Jaw Bowling Alley, Canadays, and assisted at St.Andrew’s Church. She especially enjoyed a house full of relatives and friends. Betty loved to play cribbage, reading, and knitting. She is predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) in 1989; father, James and mother, Ellen; sister, Isabella; daughter-in-law, Sharon; grandson, William Jr.; sisters-in-law, Teresa (Tess) and Muriel; and nephew, Ken. She leaves to grieve sons: John W. (Eileen); James A. (Bertha); Robert M.; David (Sheila); Glen F. (friend Gwen); and Dennis G. (Darlene); fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, John, Alex (Florence); and George; numerous nieces and nephews. In Scotland niece: Agnus (Brady) McBride; grandnephews: Edward, Frank, and Thomas McBride; great-nieces: Helen and Isabell McBride, and Margaret (Billy) Walsh; and great-great-niece and nephew: Christine and Martin Walsh. Following Cremation, a Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery, Saturday May 25, 2002 at 11:00 am. Rev. Frank Mitchell will officiate. ELSIE HOBDAY
Elsie Hobday passed away peacefully, at Providence Place, on Sunday, April 1st, 2001 at the age of 91 years. She was born on October 12th, 1909 in the Buffalo Pound Lake area. Elsie served in both the Army and Air Force. Upon returning, she worked at Lowther’s Store/Post Office, in Tuxford, until its closure. She then went on to Providence Hospital where she worked until her retirement. Elsie received much enjoyment from fishing, hunting and searching the countryside for arrowheads. In later years she enjoyed reading and puzzles. Predeceased by her parents Adrian and Annie Hobday, one brother Fred, two sisters and their husbands; Babs (Reg) Wilfong and Fannie (Jerry) Rigden, also one nephew Jim Rigden. Elsie is survived by her sister-in-law Hazel Hobday and three generations of nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columba Churchyard Cemetery – Buffalo Pound Lake area. Visitation will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, Saturday 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, friends so wishing may make donations to the St. Columba Church, Box 362, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4N9.
