Born December 9, 1917 in London, England, Doris passed away June 3, 2002 at Moose Jaw Extendicare. Predeceased by her father Arthur, mother Ellen; brothers: Arthur and Albert; sisters: Cathryn, Lily, May and Rose; son-in-law Larry Harms and her husband Cyril Matthews in 1995. She is survived by three children: Helen (Murray) Greenlay of Kipling, Sask., Don (Diane) of Weagamow, Ont. and Kathy Harms of Moose Jaw; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Prior to the war, Doris was a concert pianist, a dressmaker and worked in a factory making aircraft parts for the war effort. She met Cyril and became a war bride in 1944, moving to Saskatchewan in 1946. Doris was a homemaker and was active in community affairs during earlier years. When the children were grown, she went to work full time at the Eyebrow Hotel, Central Butte Hospital and Moose Jaw Co-op until retirement. During her retirement, she enjoyed bowling, fishing, socializing and her family. Following a stroke in 2000, Doris was forced to move to Moose Jaw Extendicare where she enjoyed the kindness of the staff and residents. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Betty Bradley will officiate. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place in Eyebrow Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening (7-9 p.m.) at the Funeral Home. GRACE C.E. GAMBLE
GRACE GAMBLE of Moose Jaw, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the age of 90 years. Grace was born October 1, 1911 in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital and was a special birthday present to her mother, who was born on the same day and hour, 2:30 a.m. She was raised in Parkbeg and attended Parkbeg Village and Kelly Schools. Grace married James Allan Gamble on October 17, 1940 and resided on the farm until Allan’s ill health forced them to move to Moose Jaw. Allan passed away on February 2, 1977. Grace was involved in many community organizations such as raising funds for the hospitals, Red Shield, Red Cross, and Church Building funds. She was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Church Grace Unit and Coffee Ladies Group. Grace enjoyed looking after her garden, her home and enjoyed doing hand work and going for long walks. Predeceased by her parents, step-brother, Charles, two brothers, James and William and one sister, Violet. Grace leaves to mourn one sister, Margaret Draper of Bow Island, Alberta; two sisters-in-law: Peggy Fry of Regina and Pat Fry of Calgary and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Peter J. Calhoun will officiate. ALBIN NELSON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and cherished husband, ALBIN NELSON at the age of 61 years. Albin leaves to mourn his wife, Joyce Nelson who was his best friend and soul mate for 41 loving years; their seven children: Barbie, Sherry, Tina, Lisa, Derek, Sara and Rocky and sixteen grandchildren: Chassie, Sean, Catlin, Sherah, Steven, Jake, Ashley, Nolan, Kandice, Lyle, Danielle, Lana, Jamie, Mariah, Tyler and Tyson. Albin will also be sadly missed by his loving mother, Roselda Nelson; brothers: Lorne and Bobby (Loretta) Nelson; sisters: Dorothy (Richard) Bauer, Joanne Nelson and Elaine (Mel) Kennedy, including numerous family members and friends. Predeceased by his loving father, Ernest Nelson, brother, Donald Nelson and son-in-law, Kevin Franks. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sunset Cemetery. DR. D. IAN FARQUHAR
DR. D. IAN FARQUHAR of Moose Jaw, passed away Tuesday, 2nd of July, 2002, at the age of 73 years. Born in Blackburn, Lancaster, England, the only son of Dr. Joseph & Evelyn Farquhar, Ian was educated in England and graduated from Manchester University. He continued his education, specializing in Pathology. Ian married Marie in England in 1958 and the couple came to Canada in 1968 where he continued to practice medicine in Western Canada. He practiced sixteen years in Moose Jaw retiring in 1996. Ian enjoyed astronomy and travel, particularly driving cars and was a member of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. Predeceased by his parents, Ian is survived by his wife Marie and her family in the United Kingdom. Following cremation, A Celebration of Ian’s Life will be held on Friday, 5th of July, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Reverend Ian Payne will officiate. Memorialization of cremated remains will take place privately at a later date. KENNETH KOPAS
KENNETH W. KOPAS, 44 years of Moose Jaw, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2002. He is survived by his loving father, Bernie of Moose Jaw; mother, Lillian of Thunder Bay, Ont.; very loving children: daughter, Sherry; son, Gary and grandson, Austin of Saskatoon. Ken is also survived by his sister, Wendy (Ivan) of San Francisco, Cal.; brothers, Dale and Gordon of Moose Jaw, Randy and Brent of British Columbia, Bernie Jr. (Anita) of Thunder Bay, Ont. and dear friends, Odette Campbell and Mary Grant of Moose Jaw; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 1:00 pm at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. EVA DENNIS
MRS. EVA LILLIAN DENNIS of Extendicare Nursing Home and long time resident of Buffalo Pound Lake ( Stony Beach ) passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at the age of 97 years. Born in the Stony Beach district, Eva attended the Coyote Run School. Eva married Joe Dennis February 9, 1922 and the couple farmed in the Stony Beach area. Joe passed away suddenly as the result of a car accident in September 1953. Eva continued to reside on the farm and a few years later, worked as a cook for the PFRA at Cypress Hills and R.M. of Pense. She loved to pick berries and will be remembered for her raisin pie and her many awards for jellies, jams and hand work. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Joe and two children, Margaret and John, several sisters and brothers and a nephew, Norman Willard. Eva is survived by cousins, Gweneth Richardson, Clifford Richardson and many other cousins, close friends, Marj & Chubb Nicolle and Doug & Jeannette Nicolle as well as many other friends and neighbours. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Captain Norm Hamelin will officiate. DAVID JONES
MR. DAVID JONES of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22nd, 2001 at the age of 63 years. Born in Moose Jaw July 24th, 1937, David attended Empire Elementary and Peacock High School. For many years he was employed with Robin Hood Mills, 15 Wing Moose Jaw and various maintenance positions with the City. David was a wonderful, caring, and gentle man and will be dearly missed by many. Predeceased by his father, Arthur in 1992 and sister Patricia in 1981. David is survived by his mother, Elsie of Moose Jaw, his sister, Vivian (Doug) Bagshaw of Trail, B.C., and two uncles: Ron (Mona) Jones of Moose Jaw and Raymond (Maxine) Jones of Moose Jaw as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a very dear friend and companion to David, Margaret Galloway of Moose Jaw. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 26th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery. Those wishing to attend may meet at the cemetery gates prior to 1:3 p.m. Memorials in memory of David to Lou Gehrig's Disease would be gratefully accepted.
