On Wednesday, July 17, 2002, Linda “Lindie Lou” Eileen Bell of Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with family by her side, at Valley View Centre, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 48 years. Linda, daughter of Doug (deceased) and Edith, was born September 17, 1953, in the Central Butte Union Hospital. Linda spent the first 10 years of her life at home surrounded by loving family members. Having seven sisters, there was never a quiet moment. One of her favourite pastimes was listening to Patty Page, a children’s vocalist, sing the “Momma Doll” song. Her love for music remained with her to the end. She became a resident of Valley View Centre in 1963, where she was loved and cared for by many people. Linda’s family joined her numerous times for get-togethers. Picnics were one of her favourite times when immediate and extended family members joined with her in the festivities at Valley View Centre. She was predeceased by her father, Doug; grandparents: Robert and Christina and Frederick and Sarah; uncles, George and Bob and great nephew, Duncan. She will always be remembered and loved by her mother, Edith; sisters, Jean, Mae (Gary), Barb (Kerry), Marg (Cal), Marion, Rene and Glady; nieces and nephews: Annette (Rick), Kathy (Kevin), Brent (Christine), Tricia (Terry), Tammy (Shawn), Tennille (Aaron), Tara, Chris (Kim), Chad, Dustin, Craig, Kristan, Janelle and Emily; great nieces and nephews: Ashley, Erik, James, Brody, Carson and Jeremy; aunts, Doris and Jean and many cousins. Cremation took place at Prairie Memorial Crematorium in Moose Jaw. A private family graveside service was held on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at the Riverhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley View Centre. In living memory of Linda, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home. WALTER PEARSON
DR. WALTER J. PEARSON late of Moose Jaw, passed away on July 14, 2002, at the Union Hospital. Walter was born on October 26, 1912 at the family farm south of Ardill, Saskatchewan. He accomplished much during his lifetime. He was a teacher and taught five years in rural schools then went to Business College and worked in the Civil Service in Ottawa until World War II broke out. He joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and served from 1942 – 1945. He was a navigator for the air crew with operations over Continental Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he attended U of S and received his B.A., and M.A., in Economic Geology. At Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, he received his P.H.D. in Economic Geology. His career took him worldwide. He was a member of the Moose Jaw Royal Canadian Legion. Walter was dearly loved by his family and respected by all who knew him. Predeceased by his parents, John and Alma Pearson, sister, Alphild and two brothers, Rudolf and Carl. Walter is survived by his brother, Paul (Marg) of Moose Jaw; sisters: Adele Hicks of Mossbank, Jeanette Burkhart of New Westminster, B.C., Hazel Reichert (Scotty) of Moose Jaw, Dorothy Kilkenny of Moose Jaw as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the chapel by Moose Jaw Branch #59. GLADYS BUSSEY
Gladys Ivy Bussey, late of Regina, formerly of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on January 27 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina after a thirteen year battle with cancer. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Sydney, brother Herb Harrison, sister Betsy Harrison (in infancy) and daughter Mary Bussey (in infancy). Gladys is survived by her children: son Douglas of Regina and granddaughter, Lynnanne Beverly; son Raymond (Jill) of Calgary; daughter, Barbara (Greg) Engel of Regina, grandson Jonathon, twin granddaughters, Kerri-Lyn (John) Errington of St Albert, Alberta and Sheri-Lyn (Mike) Gauthier of Regina and great-grandchildren, Braedon and Kaslyn; daughter Vicki (Bill) Mather of Edmonton, grandsons Dustin Lyall, Craig Lyall and great-granddaughter Aletha and grandson James Mather. Gladys was born and attended school in Moose Jaw. During her young adult years she played ball with the Moose Jaw Royals, touring to the 1939 World’s Fair to play in a ladies ball tournament, finishing second to the team coached by Babe Ruth. She married Syd Bussey and raised four children in Moose Jaw. Gladys and Syd were very active with young people at Trinity United Church and in scouting. Gladys spent 35 years committed to the Boy Scout movement in Saskatchewan, earning the Silver Acorn Award, one of Scouting’s highest honors. Syd and Gladys moved with their family to the Regina area in 1963, and then to Herbert in 1967 where they lived until returning to Moose Jaw for retirement. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street East, Moose Jaw on Thursday, January 31 at 1:30 PM. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Murphy to officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. CLIFFORD SUTHERLAND
CLIFFORD ANGUS SUTHERLAND, aged 80 years, passed away Friday, April 6th, 2001 at Providence Place, Moose Jaw, where he had spent the last six years. Born January 3rd, 1921 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to John and Elizabeth Sutherland of Ponteix, Saskatchewan. Cliff grew up on the family farm and in 1942 joined the Army in the 1622 Saskatchewan Horse B.C.R. Regiment as a tank driver in the 2nd World War until 1946. On June 17th, 1947, Cliff married Velma Howey and they farmed at Ponteix for one year before moving to Melaval, Saskatchewan where they farmed for twenty years and raised their six children. Over the next twenty years, Cliff and Velma lived throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia where Cliff applied his many talents to various types of work. In 1988, Moose Jaw became the home for retirement. Predeceased by his father in 1963, mother in 1970 and son, Brian in 1998. Cliff is survived by his wife, Velma of 54 years, daughters, Cheryle (Bill) and Kathi (Garry Seip) of Moose Jaw, Dianne (Calvin Whitehead) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, sons, Kevin (Mary) and Wayne (Deneen) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, his sister, Betty Teeter of Guelph, Ontario, brothers, Bert (Audrey) of Osoyoos, B.C. and Ken (Elsie) of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, many nieces and nephews and mother-in-law Janie Buchanan. Cliff was a kind and gentle man – loved, admired and respected by all who knew him. We remember him for his strong work ethics, and his ability to always see the lighter side of life enjoying a good laugh whenever possible. The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, April 11th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabacsa St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. MARGARET HOLMQUIST (WELLS)
Margaret L. Holmquist (Wells) of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully in hospital with her children at her side on Saturday, July 13, 2002 at the age of 87 years. Born October 5, 1914 at Regina, Sask., Margo married Kitch Wells and moved from Regina to Moose Jaw where they ran Execlo Photo for many years. Margo’s loves of her life were her family, music, dancing, and traveling. She and Kitch wintered in Mesa, Arizona for many years and enjoyed the cottage at Buffalo Pound Lake during the summers. Margo is predeceased by her husband, Kitch in 1982. Returning to Mesa she met John Holmquist and they had 13 happy years of marriage. Margo is survived by her son, Bob Wells and his wife, Laura and their children, Chad and Keri of Moose Jaw; daughter, Jan Atkinson and her husband, Brian and their children, David and Jennifer of Regina; and also her loyal grandpuppies, K.C. and Max. Following cremation, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. ANDERS HARRY NIELS JENSEN of Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2002, at the age of 94 years. Harry was born in Iowa, U.S.A. At four years of age, the family went to Denmark to visit their relatives. The First World War delayed their return until 1923 when the family came to Canada and settled in Pense. In 1925 to they moved to Stelcam and then to the Belle Plaine district in 1929 where Harry farmed until his passing. He operated the combine last fall and more recently, tended to feeding the cattle. Harry leaves to remember him, his wife of 51 years, Ethel; his children, Linda (Lyle); Paul (Les-Lee) and Philip (Terry); his grandchildren, Stephanie, Alison, Lee Stewart; Laura and Krista Jensen; Carla, Amanda and Kerry Machuk; Christian Jensen; great-granddaughter, Emily; his brother, Ernst; sister, Elna and his sister-in-law, Elsie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Lutheran Church, 27 Hochelaga St. W., Moose Jaw. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. ANGUS HUNTER
MR. ANGUS HUNTER, age 85 years, passed away in Moose Jaw on Wednesday May 8, 2002 with his family by his side. Angus was born in Moose Jaw where he also received his education. After working in the bowling alley, Angus apprenticed with Imperial Optical where he was employed for a number of years. Angus served overseas in World War II and later in the Korean War. He returned to work for Imperial Optical and later was employed for twenty-eight years as a Civilian at Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw, retiring in 1981. In 1962, Angus married Gweneth Forler. He was very athletic, enjoying bowling, swimming, diving, skating as well as boating and water skiing at Buffalo Pound Lake. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Hunter, his first wife, Agnes, one sister, Hilda Evans; four brothers: Bob, Alfred, William and Allan. He is survived by his wife, Gweneth, son, Douglas (Charlene), their children, Kory, Darren and Amy; one daughter, Joan Hunter – all of Regina; one brother, Richard (Louise) of Penticton, B.C., as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Jack Radu will officiate.
