SARAH STAPLES

SARAH P. STAPLES of Providence Place, Moose Jaw, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2001 at the age of 83 years. Born in Moose Jaw in 1917, Sarah attended Davidson Business College and worked in a secretarial capacity all her life. She started here in Moose Jaw as juvenile court stenographer then worked at Teachers College as the principal’s secretary, moving on to S.T.I. and SIAST in the same position. Sadie enjoyed her traveling days, going to Germany, Great Britain, Alaska, Montreal Expo, to name a few. She was accomplished at whatever she did, including needle work, bridge playing and completing the Staples family history. Sarah was also a member of St. Andrew’s United Church. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, William Richard and Sarah Susan, brothers, George in 1956 (Sarah in 2001) and Murray in 1997. She is survived by brothers, Cecil (Marjorie) and Earl (Claudia), sister-in-law, Della, nineteen nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Following cremation, memorialization of cremated remains will take place at the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Friday, June 15, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Place, 100-2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8, The Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, or to a charity of choice would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Sarah, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

AGNES GRAINGER

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our sweet angel, AGNES GRAINGER on the day of love, February 14th, 2001. Mother was born December 25th, 1910 in the Riverhurst, Saskatchewan district. She lived in the Tisdale and McKague districts until moving to settled in Moose Jaw in 1929 where she met and later married her true love, Robert Grainger on May 2, 1934. Together they were blessed with loving relationships and loyal friends. The church and their respective lodges were an integral part of their life together. Mother received great joy from her fellowship with her “sister” Rebekah’s of Rebekah Lodge #54 of which she was a Life Member. Mother was also a member of Past Noble Grand that gave her many years of joy. In 1942, mother joined St. Andrew’s United Church and became a member of the W.M.S. who in turn honored her with a Life Membership pin in 1961. Through her many years of involvement with those organizations, a banquet or tea was not served that did not contain a pie or slice baked lovingly by mother. Agnes was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Agnes Henderson, sister, Madeleine an infant brother and sister and her loving husband Robert James Grainger in 1971. Agnes leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her loving family: Keith Grainger of Victoria, B.C., Ian and Viney Grainger of McLean, Saskatchewan, their children: Heather and Dan Owens, Adeline, Christopher and Amanda of Regina; Brent and Monika Grainger, Jennifer, Kaylee and Zachary of Regina; Brenda Grainger of Regina, Pamela, John Foster, Jaimie, Janelle, Jocelyn, Jordan and Jaiden of Edenwold, Saskatchewan, Muriel and Colin Howard, David Howard of Moose Jaw, Chere Lyn and Shawn Gilbert and Brittnee of Calgary as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A Service in Celebration of the Life of Agnes Grainger will be held at St. Andrew’s Untied Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Tuesday, February 20th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Interment took place at the Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 19th, 2001 at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Memorials for the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, S6H 0E1 would be gratefully accepted.

LEWIS R. TOWRISS

Lewis Richard Towriss passed away peacefully with his family at his side on November 12, 2002 at the age of 91 years. Lew is predeceased by his parents, Robert Towriss and Jessie Wallace; step-mother, Anne Wallace; his first wife, Estelle Davey; brothers: John, George, William, and Stanley; sisters: Mary (Hagerty-Heron), Doreen (Price-Champion); and great-granddaughter, Andrea Edmands. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Margaret; daughters: Gail (Gerry) Carline – Moose Jaw; Carol (Wray) Edmands – Regina; sons, Rich (Sandra) – Moose Jaw; Brian (Vicki) – Saskatoon; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, as well as special cousin, Harry (Audrey) Heseltine; sisters-in-law, Gladys, Sylvia, and Marguerite Towriss; Anne and May Heron, and Doreen (Don) Black; and brother-in-law, Karl Wilde. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P2, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1, would be appreciated. In living memory of Lew, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GEORGE CORDICK

JOHNSTON GEORGE LEONARD CORDICK, formerly of Chaplin, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly at Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Saturday, February 10th, 2001 at the age of 75 years. Born at Moose Jaw February 11th, 1926. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War ll. George was a Life Time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and was Zone Commander for fourteen years. He worked for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for thirty-five years, retiring in 1980. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1991. George had taught 4-H for twenty years and gun safety for thirty-five years. Dad was a family man who dearly loved his wife, children, special grandchildren, Levi, Crissy, Terri and new grandson, Dillon. Dad was an active hunter in his early years and loved to fish and camp. He enjoyed working in his shop, making bird houses as well as many other items and also enjoyed working in his garden and yard. Predeceased by his son, Gary, his parents and two brothers, Jim and Tom. George is survived by his wife, Rose of 52 years, his sons, Howard (Jan) and Rodney (Maryann), his daughter, Deb (Al) Bennett – all of Moose Jaw as well as grandchildren, Crystal, Garry and Jason and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also mourned by his sister, Betty (John) Candlish of Saskatoon, his brothers, Stan (Vi) of Moose Jaw and Jack of Rosetown, sister-in-law Louise Cordick of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Following cremation a private family graveside service and interment of cremated remains will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at that time. Flowers are gratefully declined, those wishing may consider memorials to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2

PEARL SMITH

PEARL G. SMITH died suddenly on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2001. She was born in Broadview, Saskatchewan on March 7th, 1914, the eleventh child of Charles and Elizabeth Brown. Pearl married Jack Smith at Stony Beach in 1935 and the couple resided in Stony Beach and Tuxford before settling in Moose Jaw. Pearl was predeceased by her husband, Jack; four brothers and eight sisters. Memories of a loving mother will be forever cherished. She leaves to cherish precious memories her three children and their families: Bob (Lesley) and their children: Blair, Margo and Jenna of Delta, B.C.; Shirley of Kamloops and Norma (Dennis) Smale of Moose Jaw and their family: Heather (Darren Tressel), David of Saskatoon; Dwight of Calgary and her great-grandson, Keagan. Also surviving are her sisters: Viola Pare of Moose Jaw and Gladys Anderson of Revelstoke, B.C. A Celebration of Pearl’s Life will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Monday, May 7th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2 or to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Pearl Smith, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GEORGE L. SHAW

Mr. George L. Shaw passed away suddenly Saturday, August 18, 2001 at the age of 84 years. George was born and educated in Moose Jaw. He served in the Navy during War and has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since that time. George owned and operated Prairie Welding and continued active until his retirement when he began teaching welding at S.T.I. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Sarah; two brothers, Tom and Bill; and infant twin sisters. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Mary; two sons: Gord; Randy (Barb) – all of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Janice (Dennis); Calvin (Lenora); Angela (Dan); and two great-grandchildren: Riley and Ian. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Moose Jaw Branch #59. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 1061, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P8, would be appreciated. In living memory of George, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

WILFRED KEEVILL

Mr. Wilfred Percival Keevill passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 16, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Wilfred retired in 1974 as Assistant Post Master at the Moose Jaw Post Office. He enjoyed fishing and gardening in his retirement and was a devoted husband, father, grampa, and great-grampa. He is survived by his loving wife, Dora of 65 years; children: Ronald (Marg), Red Deer; Keith (Donna) – Buffalo Pound Lake; Lynne (Ray) Braun, Kelowna; grandchildren: Dave (Cathy), Regina; Mike, Red Deer; Steve, Northern Alberta; Todd, Calgary; Brent, Buffalo Pound Lake; Rhonda (Steve) Shaheen, Moose Jaw; Barry (Nicholle) Braun, Saskatoon; Brian (Carri-Ann) Braun, Surrey, B.C.; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Shae-Lynne and Mark Shaheen; Stacey, Brayden, Keegan, and Hailey Braun; Wendy and Tina Keevill; sister, Edna (Fred) Gardham, Vancouver; and cousin, Enid (Len) Burns, Moose Jaw. In keeping with Wilfred's wishes, there will be no Services. Cremation will take place. Memorials to the CNIB, 2550 Broad Street, Regina, Sask. S4P 9Z9, would be appreciated. The family would like to thank Dr. B. Thorpe, Marie Ellingson, and staff of the Moose Jaw Home Care and staff of Pioneer Lodge. In living memory of Wilfred, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
