Mr. Anton “Tony” Phillip Hager, age 87, of Moose Jaw and formerly of Chamberlain, passed away on September 27, 2002. Born on the family homestead at Chamberlain, Tony was educated at Chamberlain and farmed there until retiring. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Ilsa; a sister, Elenor; and a brother, George. Tony is survived by brothers, Joe (Herta), John, Fred (Elna), and Chris (Celine); sisters: Eugenia Diethelm, Mary (Jack) Seiferling, Anna (Eugene) Beingessner, Bertha Hager, Rose (Peter) Oud-Hager, Sister Veronica Hager and Theresia Hager; as well as many nieces and nephews. Evening Prayer Services will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Chamberlain, Sask. on Monday, September 30, 2002 at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at 11:00 am. Reverend Father Francis Sarmiento will preside. Interment will follow at the Chamberlain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sask. Lung Association, 1231 Eighth Street East, Saskatoon, Sask. S7H 0S5, would be appreciated. Roy Sargent
Roy Sargent passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 16, 2001, just days before his 80 birthday. Roy was born in Central Butte in 1921 and moved to Moose Jaw at an early age where he received his education at William Grayson Public School and Moose Jaw Technical High School. Roy served in the Royal Canadian Air Force prior to employment with the National Fruit Company, Swifts, CP Rail and the Health of Animals Branch of the Federal Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1986. In his early years, Roy was active in hockey and baseball and throughout his life was an active sports fan, especially when his grandson was playing. He also enjoyed curling and his many fishing expeditions with his buddies. Roy ’s favourite times were spent with family and friends. He was a loving husband, precious father, doting grandfather, devoted brother, caring uncle and a loyal friend – always making sure that other’s needs were taken care of before his own. He was a pillar of strength for those who needed comfort during trying times. Roy will be remembered for his sense of humour, gentle nature, perceptiveness, love of animals and nature, genuine interest in people of any age and his ability to build or repair almost anything. Predeceased by his parents Mabel and Stanley Sargent, Roy leaves to remember him, his loving wife of sixty-two years, Julia (Judy); daughters: Marilyn (Howard Toda) of Aiea, Hawaii and Pam (Greg Veillard) of Moose Jaw; four grandchildren: Denise Toda of Seattle; Judy (Ray) Tanabe of Aiea, Hawaii; Lisa Cumberland of Calgary; Brock Nelson of Moose Jaw and one great-grandson, Trek Tanabe of Aiea, Hawaii. Also surviving are three brothers: Jim (Ethel) Brewington of Regina; Kenneth (Dorothy) Sargent of Ottawa and Leslie (Laverne) Sargent of Port Sydney, Ontario; two sisters: Irene Hamill and Audrey (Donald) Cooper of Regina and three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Botterill and Pearl Smith of Vancouver and Bertha Wohlgemuth of Medicine Hat. In keeping with the wishes of Mr. Sargent, there will be no funeral service. Private family memorialization will take place in the Veteran’s Section, Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Roy at a tea to take place at the Royal Canadian Legion (268 High Street West, Moose Jaw) on Friday, July 20, 2001 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society (223 Fairford Street East, Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 0E1) would be appreciated by the family. ANNIE HOVANES
ANNIE HOVANES (nee Paradun) of Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully August 19, 2001 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew; parents, Efem and Mary Paradun; brothers: Peter, Andrew, Abraham, Jack, George, Paul, Ernest and Alexander; sisters: Alvena Sheparanko and Margaret Coleman. Annie is survived by her children: John (Betty), Mike (Betty), Leonard, Harvey (Mary), George (Marilyn) and one daughter, Pat (Herman) Kraus, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Larry Paradun and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Annie was born at Max, North Dakota and came to Canada with her family as a child and settled in the Viceroy District where she attended school. She met and married Andrew in 1935 and the couple lived and farmed in the Ormiston area where they raised their family. Her cheerful and kind personality endeared her to many neighbours and friends in the community as well as serving as secretary for the Middle Valley School. Annie moved to Moose Jaw several years ago, where she resided at McNiven Manor and then moved to Pioneer Lodge in 1999. A Celebration of Annie’s Life will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Friday, August 24, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Allan Buchanan will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. GEORGE RUDEEN
It is with deep sadness that the family of George Merlin Rudeen announces his passing June 5, 2001 at Pioneers Lodge. A beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. George was born January 29, 1922 and raised on the family farm north of Parkbeg. He served with Honor in the Army in active service overseas in World War II. On return he worked at many jobs including the Sodium Sulphate Plant in Chaplin. It was in Chaplin that he suffered a debilitating accident that changed his life forever. He will be best remembered for servicing small household appliances at Marshall Wells and then in the Co-op. For the last 6 ˝ years he had been a resident of Pioneers Lodge. Predeceased by his parents, Paul in 1960 and Bessie in 1987; brothers, Aubrey in 1928; and Howard in 1992; brother-in-law, Alex Monteith in 1998; and former wife, Anne in 1995. He leaves to mourn his son, Mark – Moose Jaw; daughter, Margo (Dave) Walsh – Logan Lake, B.C.; grandchildren: Phadra and Aubrey; brothers: Gene (Irene); and Alan (Elma) – Mortlach; sister, Florence Monteith - Weyburn; sister-in-law, Agnes Rudeen – Enderby; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and some very dear friends at Pioneers Lodge who loved and cared for him while he was there.

VIOLET BALERUD
Violet Balerud, formerly of Moose Jaw and Crane Valley, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Long Term Care Centre in Wetaskiwin, AB. on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the age of 89 years. Violet was retired from Valley View Centre in 1977. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a long time member of the Happy Pairs Square Dance group. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Fred; and grandson, Jeffery Balerud. She is survived by sons: Garry (Elaine) – Moose Jaw; Don (Eva) – Bashaw, AB.; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 3:30 pm. Rev. Peter Calhoun will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday evening 7 – 9 at the Funeral Home. ALBERT "AB" DEYO
Albert Charleton (Ab) Deyo of Devon, Alberta, and formerly of the Boharm district passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 15, 2002 at the age of 82 years. Ab was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Ida; his wife, Eileen; and brothers: Claire, Harold, and John. Ab will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Peggy of Devon; son, Bill (Judy), Carma and Crystal; daughter, Bev (Gord) Graham, Shaun and Jillian of Cochrane, Alta.; and step-daughter, Roberta Peirson, Terry and Brad of Westlock, Alta.; and seven great-grandchildren. Ab farmed the family farm north of Boharm for 30 years before retiring to Devon, Alberta in 1975. Ab loved a good joke, telling stories, golfing, cooking on his bar-b-que, gardening, and feeding the wild birds. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and quick wit. Ab was a member of the Caron/Mortlach Lodge #42 A.F. & A.M. G.R.S., Moose Jaw Grand Chapter #3 R.A.M., a member of Al Shamal Shriners, a member of the Oriental Band of Al Shamal Shriners, and a member of Edmonton Court #190 R.O.J. He was a past president of the Saskatchewan B.P.O.E. Following a private interment at Sunset Cemetery, there will be a Celebration of Ab’s life on Saturday May 25, 2002 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 268 High Street West, Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1, or the charity of one’s choice in Ab’s memory would be appreciated. HAROLD BOON
Harold Raymond Boon of Moose Jaw, formerly of Davidson and Regina, passed away February 4, 2002. Harold was the oldest of four boys born in Davidson to Mattie Marie (Jensen) and Ernest H. Boon. He lived in the Davidson district until his marriage when they moved to Regina. Harold spent his later years at Chez Nous in Moose Jaw. Throughout his life Harold enjoyed the company of others through cards, board games, curling, dancing, billiards, carpet bowling, television sports, bowling, golf, dining out, and visiting. His visits to his family and friends were his treasures. He will always be remembered by his family for his quick wit and his comments that brought laughter and sometimes surprise to those listening. Predeceased by the mother of his children, Grace (nee Juhnke); his second wife, Bea (Blackmore); his parents, Marie and Ernest; brothers: Gordon and Clifford; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Boon, Lena McGladdery; brothers-in-law, Si Dean, Ignace Snoj, Earl Doupe, Martin Juhnke, Art McGladdery, and Howard Reicken. Harold is survived by his daughter: Adele (Fred) Owatz and their children: Dr. Todd (Sandra) Owatz and Krista Owatz – Moose Jaw; Dr. Brett Owatz – United Arab Emirates; son, Wayne (Heather) Boon and their children: Shane, Jocelyn, and Taneal – St. Albert, AB.; brother, Clarence – Virden, MB.; sisters-in-law: Alma Snoj, Olive Dean, Edna Reicken, Hazel (Earl) Johnson, and May Doupe; Bea’s children: Sharon (Ken) Church and their children: Vanna Gay Shaw and her children.
