JAMES ANDERSON MUNROE passed away peacefully at his home, in the loving arms of his family on Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the age of 72 years. Jim was born on a farm in the Mossbank District. His family moved to Moose Jaw when he was a young boy. He attended Empire and Peacock Schools. He spent his life driving truck, driving eighteen years for E&R Smith and twenty years for Arnold Wilk. Jim retired in 1999 due to the onset of Cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Pearl Munroe; two sons, Edward and Kevin; his brothers, George and Lyle; a niece, Sandra Fox and two nephews, Garth Hooey and Mervyn Singbeil. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Dianne and their child, Jesse; his children, Pat Munroe (Dave); Cheryl (Kurt) Chow and Doug (Dianne) Munroe; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doreen (Art) Singbeil; a brother, Bill; his mother-in-law, Irene Dube and the Dube Family; sisters-in-law, Lila and Trudy; and a very special person in his life, Grandma Erickson. Jim will always be a special “UNCLE JIM” to his nieces and nephews and their children. They will miss him dearly. Friends are invited to join the family for a Reflection of Jim’s life on Thursday, May 16, 2002 from 1-1:30 p.m. at the Eagles Hall, 561 Home Street West, followed by a luncheon. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date. For those wishing, gifts in Jim’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 0E1. ROBERT (BOB) RICE
ROBERT “BOB” MILTON RICE, age 55 years of Spring Valley, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 25, 2001. Bob is survived by his loving family: wife Marcia, daughter, Amanda and sons Milton and Nicholas of Spring Valley. Bob is also survived by his parents Loy and Olive Rice of Moose Jaw as well as his sister Jean (Don) Sullivan of Calgary and brother Wayne (Margaret) Rice of Saskatoon, nieces and nephew Loy & Sonia Sullivan, Andrea and Amy Rice, Mother and Father-in-law Faye and Dave Laidlaw of Richmond, B.C., sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob was born and educated in Mitchellton. He moved to British Columbia after completing a Heavy Duty Mechanics Course. He is well remembered for his knowledge of the trade and the help he gave to others in his field throughout B.C. In 1983 Bob returned to the family farm in Saskatchewan where he took up his life long dream of farming. He also worked as a patrol operator for the RM of Terrell until he acquired more land which didn’t allow him time to continue working off the farm. He served as Councillor in later years and also Reeve for the past three years. Bob was an active 4-H leader over the years, both at Twin Lakes 4-H Club and the Spring Valley 4-H Club. He led both the Mechanics and Beef Projects. He enjoyed working with the younger people of the communities where he could pass on some tricks of the trade. Bob was always there to lend a helping hand where it was needed, whether someone needed help with mechanical problems or cooking at a school function. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was checking the cattle with his daughter or helping his sons work on a piece of machinery or a vehicle. Bob will be missed not only by his family and friends but also by the many people which he so unselfishly aided when they needed help, advice or mechanical repairs. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Private family memorialization will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob’s memory may be forwarded to the District #8 4H Club, c/o Box 5000, Swift Current, Saskatchewan., S9H 4G3 or to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. ALAN EDWARD GILCHRIST
April 22, 1926 – February 26, 2001
Alan passed away suddenly on February 26, 2001. Predeceased by his parents, John and Myrtle Gilchrist, he is survived by sister, Marjorie Cormack (Hank), nephews, John, Jim and Randy Cormack and niece, Patricia Cormack. A private family service has been held. The family would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Jack Hill, members of the Moose Jaw Police Force, especially Sergeant Mackey, staff of the Union Hospital, Dr. Ben VanHeerden and The Reverend Ian Payne of St. John’s Anglican Church for their help and concern. KENNETH WILLIAM REYNOLDS
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ken, age 81, dearest husband and loving father, on Thursday, February 15th, 2001, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born in Moose Jaw in 1920, and attended Victoria School and Central Collegiate, graduating in 1938. During the “dirty thirties” he spent many happy hours at the Aquatic Club, swimming in the Moose Jaw River. He was a member of the 77th Battery Militia. When WWII began he was the 8th Saskatchewan soldier to enlist, and he always bore the number L8 proudly. Ken sailed to England with the 1st Division from Canada, arriving in December, 1939. During his time in England he was billeted in Coney Hall, Kent, where he met his wife-to-be, Nora (Noreen) Stack, and they were married in 1944. He returned to Moose Jaw in 1945 and began his 39 year career with the CPR Police. He was a fine, honest and reliable man whose main focus was always his wife and family. During his retirement years, Ken enjoyed gardening, going to “coffee row” with his pals, attending activities at the Armouries, and traveling to visit family and friends. No matter where he traveled, he always loved Moose Jaw and was proud to call it his home. Ken was predeceased by his parents, James and Viona, brother, Perce; sons, Paul and Danny. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Noreen; sons, Reg (Donna), Bruce (Debbie), Barry (Carole) and Terry; daughter, Julie; sister, Winsome; sisters-in-law, Sheila, Margaret and Mary; brothers-in-law, Bill and Barrie; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous good friends.

THOR BRATTLEY
Thor Brattley of Moose Jaw, passed away February 23, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Thor was born at Cardross, on August 21, 1922 to Nina and Arnt Brattley. He worked at Robin Hood Mills and later Parrish & Heinbecker Ltd for 36 years. Thor enjoyed bowling, ice fishing, sports, and in later years was a bridge enthusiast. He was known for his generosity and consideration for others. He took great pride in his family and was especially thrilled with his first great-granddaughter, Allison. Predeceased by parents; sister, Esther Trail and brothers, Arthur and Norman. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth; three sons: Wayne (Sandra) – Red Deer, AB.; and their children: Jason - Edmonton, AB.; David (Cheryl) and their daughter, Allison – Duluth, Minn.; Andrea – Carcross, Yukon; Richard (Laurie) – Saskatoon, SK.; and Kenneth – Moose Jaw, SK.; one sister, Edna Hicke – Red Deer, AB.; and sisters-in-law, Mildred, Dorothy, and Delores. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. LAWRENCE JOHN HICKS of Mortlach, Saskatchewan, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at the age of 85 years. Born at home in the Courval district May 22, 1916, Lawrence married Ruth Smith and the couple farmed in the Edgehill district until 1978 when they moved to Mortlach. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and May Hicks; wife, Ruth; twin sister, Beatrice; brothers-in-law, Clayton Orr, John Smith, Bob Felt, Everett Beaman and Roy Colenutt; sisters-in-law, Lavina Beaman, Eseal Felt and Barbara Smith. Lawrence is survived by two daughters and three sons: Lloyd (Wilma) Hicks, Donna (Sandy) Currie, Linda (Ron) Locke, Doug (Betty) Hicks and Danny (Irene) Hicks; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Agnes Rogers, Mabel Colenutt and Maltie Hodgins; brothers-in-law, Benny Rogers and Haldon Hodgins; and several nieces and nephews.
