It is with great sadness the family of Kelly Hunter announces his peaceful passing in the early morning of January 30, 2002. Kelly attended King George and Vanier. He was a long time employee of SGI. Kelly was an avid sports fan in Moose Jaw, especially his beloved Warriors. He is survived by his parents, Myrtle and Joseph Hunter, sister, Pennie (Thompson) of Moose Jaw and her children, Trevor and Erin, sister Pat (Lein) of Coquitlam, B.C. and her daughter, Brittany, brother, Mark (Doris) Hunter of Coquitlam, B.C. and their children, Brandon, Connor and Griffin. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. St. Andrews United Church, Moose Jaw. Linda Owens will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Palliative Care Program, Home Care Services, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3 would be gratefully appreciated. In living memory of Kelly, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
RUTH BURNETT
RUTH ELIZABETH BURNETT, born May 9th, 1915 on the family farm in the Grayburn district, passed away at Providence Place, Moose Jaw on Sunday, April 15th, 2001. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, James and Fanny Peever, infant sister, Mary, her loving husband, Norman (1986), and brother-in-law, Les Burnett (2000). She is survived by her son, Rae (Helen), Grayburn District; grandsons: Douglas (Colleen) and great-grandchildren: Katie and Dalton, Alder Flats, AB; Wade (Tracy), great-grandchildren: Hayden and Kourtnee, Slave Lake, AB; and daughter, Elaine Burnett, Regina. Ruth also leaves her sister-in-law, May Burnett, Olds, AB; niece, Darlene Gallagher; nephews: Ron (Joan) Burnett, and Wayne (Claudette) Burnett; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; cousin, Alice Peever, Moose Jaw; and her Kellington cousins throughout Canada. Ruth was a member of the United Church of Canada (Knox United – Grayburn and Zion – Moose Jaw) and O.E.S. Past Matron (Caron) and member of O.E.S. (Moose Jaw Chapter). Ruth was dedicated to her husband, Norman, her family, and farm life. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 18th, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Dr. Bob Kimmerly will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan (Research); Lupus Canada (Research); or, to visit a shut-in to cheer their day in memory of Ruth. The family extends a heart-felt thanks to Dr. Geyer, Dr. Gass and the “dedicated and caring” staff at Chez Nous and Providence Place. A special thanks to Ruth’s friends and relatives for their many visits and outing, which always meant so much to Ruth. JOHN WINSELL
Mr. John Alexander Winsell of Moose Jaw passed away Monday, October 15, 2002 at the age of 70 years. John is survived by his wife, Eva and five sons. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Following Cremation, memorialization will take place privately at a later date. Memorials to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, c/o 268 High Street West, S6H 1S8, would be appreciated. In living memory of John, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. BERNARD NORMINTON
BERNARD NORMINTON, born June 1, 1911 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, passed away peacefully at Providence Place, Moose Jaw on Sunday, October 29, 2000 at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Kathleen Norminton, brother, Harvey, sisters, Monica and Kathleen, and his loving wife of 57 years, Ruby in 1998. He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Joan) of Saskatoon, and David (Jocelyn) of Regina, his seven grandchildren, Joseph (Heide) Norminton of Brandon, Wanda (Brian) Steed of Peace River, Kelly (Leah) Norminton and Lorne Norminton of Victoria, Bob (Nadine), Jim, and Patricia Norminton of Regina. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jill and Jason Norminton, Kale, Dylan, and Logan Steed, and Madison and Riley Norminton. Bernard emigrated to Canada with his brother Harvey in 1928. He worked in bush camps and farms until 1930 when he joined the Imperial Bank of Canada. During his 46 year career with the bank (now CIBC), he worked in various branches located in Weyburn, Assiniboia, Regina, Edmonton, Red Deer, Portage la Prairie, Broadview and Moose Jaw. In each community, Bernard was a faithful church member and active in community organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Masonic Lodge. Upon retirement, Bernard devoted his time to his interests in gardening, and his love for his family. He and Ruby took great pleasure in spending winters together in Hawaii. When Ruby's health failed due to the onset of Alzheimer's disease, Bernard was devoted to her care in their home. Bernard will be always remembered by his family and friends as a gentleman of dignity, devotion, and accomplishment. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John's Anglican Church, 124-1st Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Ian Payne will officiate. Interment will follow at the Regina Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan.
GERTRUDE "GERTIE" HARRIS
GERTRUDE JEAN “GERTIE” HARRIS (nee PATTERSON) of Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie, Alberta, passed away January 12, 2002 at the age of 90 years. Born September 9, 1911 at Dummer, Ontario, she moved to Dummer, Saskatchewan with her family and then on to Moose Jaw in 1929 where she resided for 65 years. In 1996 she moved to Airdrie, Alberta to be closer to her family. She was a member of Zion United Church and Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge No. 4. Gertie was a kind, loving and generous person who was very dedicated to her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew her. Gertie is survived by one daughter, Dona Sickles (Harold) of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Darrell Harris (Barbara) of Airdrie, Alberta; and one sister, Bernice Armstrong (Jack), of Moose Jaw; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Gertie was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and W. J. Patterson; her husband, John E. Harris; three brothers, Art, Carmen and Paddy Patterson; one sister, Ruby McKenzie and one great-grandson, Matthew Harris. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, on Friday, January 18, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Bob Kimmerly will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. EARL RICHMOND of Moose Jaw, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2002 at the age of 74 years. Harvey served overseas during WWII. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret and a grandson, Jimmy. Earl will be remembered by three daughters: Sharon and her companion Charles Drover, Sharon ’s daughter, Lana Hochban of Toronto; Myrna (Bruce) Biggler and their children, Angela and Tony of Waterdown, Ontario; Arlene Scheuerman of Moose Jaw; two sons: David of Moose Jaw and Mervin of Winnipeg. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele, Moose Jaw Branch #59. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place at Hillside Cemetery, in Portage la Prairie.
