It is with sadness we announce the death of IRVIN PETER HIEBERT on Thursday, October 11, 2001. Irvin was born in 1933 in the Chaplin district. In 1957 he moved to Moose Jaw and then to Prince George, B.C. in 1964 with his brother Dale, sister Joan and mother Anne. He returned to Moose Jaw (Extendicare Nursing Home) in August of 2000. Irvin was employed as a carpenter until his retirement. His favorite past time was playing music on his guitar, banjo and mouth organ. Predeceased by his father Peter in 1964, mother Anne in 1992, sister Joan in 1996 and brothers-in-law Doug Hughes and Walter Sanders. Irvin is survived by sisters Marlene Hughes, Luella Sanders, Rose Drake; brothers Gordon (Beverley) Hiebert, Dale (Helen) Hiebert and special friend Inga Baxter of Abbottsford, B.C. Irvin was a special uncle survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Following cremation, A Memorial Service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2 Hayes Drive, Moose Jaw on Monday, October 15, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. Reg McKee will be the speaker. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 0E1 or to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. DONALD “RED” ELLIOTT
DONALD “RED” MALCOLM ELLIOTT of Moose Jaw, passed away after a brief illness at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Don was born in Moose Jaw in 1925 and entered the RCNVR at the age of seventeen to serve overseas. Don returned to Canada in 1945 and spent a few years working in Vancouver before returning to Moose Jaw where he met and married Mildred Empey in 1962. Don worked at BA/Gulf Oil for many years. He then worked at CFB Moose Jaw and retired after seventeen years of employment. Don was predeceased by his wife, Mildred in 1968 and is survived by his daughter, Sheelagh (Ted) Glover and a sister, Ruth Macdiarmid. A private interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made to the Arthritis Society, 110-2550-12th Ave., Regina, Sask., S4P 3X1. EUPHEMIA FITZSIMMONS (nee Watson), passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the age of 82 years. Born August 7, 1918 on the family farm at Cardross to Christopher and Katherine Watson. Pheme later worked for Dr. & Mrs. Gordon Young at their home on Langdon Crescent in Moose Jaw as well as for the Ken Doraty family just next door. She worked as a seamstress for local dry cleaners, in the alteration department for Eatons Ladies Department and Joyners in the late 1940’s. Pheme enjoyed a good laugh, music, dancing, animals - especially dogs, her family and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Sarah and brother-in-law, Eugene Garrioch and will be sadly missed by her husband, Kingston of 47 years, sons, Dennis (Elaine) of Medicine Hat and Don of Moose Jaw, grandchildren, Alissa and Tina, brothers, Reg (Audrey) Watson, Allan (Marge) Watson and Duncan (Pat) Watson – all of Moose Jaw. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Bob Kimmerly will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday (July 31st) 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials for the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2 would be gratefully accepted. DOUGLAS CALDWELL
Mr. Douglas Scott Caldwell passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Doug was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Marie and Winnie; brothers: Clare and Merv; and son-in-law, Jack Riendeau. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Francis; sister, Calla Grasley; daughters: Verna Riendeau and Yvonne (Ron) Miller; as well as 8 grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Doug was born in Regina on April 28, 1911, the fourth child of Ed and Ida Caldwell. His working career involved trucking and farming in the Lawson, Sask. area. The next 20 years were spent making ice at the Moose Jaw Curling Club and the Hillcrest Sports Centre, retiring in 1980. His loves were baseball and curling and in later years cheering his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on at many sporting activities around Sask. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home Wednesday evening 7 – 8:30 pm. Cremation will follow. A Memorial Service will be held at Minto United Church on Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment of Cremated Remains will take place at Sunset Cemetery. PETER FITZPATRICK passed away in Moose Jaw on Tuesday, July 30, 2002. Predeceased by his parents, Peter is survived by Norma, mother of: son Michael (Sheila) of Newburgh, Ont.; daughters Gail Caplan of Kelowna, Colleen Fitzpatrick (Barry) of Ottawa, Ont., Karen (Jim) Wilson of Moose Jaw; as well as his wife Alice, with whom he has shared fifteen years. Other family members include brother Hank (Bev) of Lake Cowichan, B.C.; sister Theresa Kelly of New Westminster; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Remembrance Tea will be held at Timothy Eaton Gardens, 510 Main St. N., Moose Jaw at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2002. JAMES COGHILL
On Wednesday, December 4, 2002, JAMES HENRY COGHILL passed away at home at the age of 70 after a short fight with cancer. James was born on the homestead at Stoney Beach, Saskatchewan on July 27, 1932. He married Mary Ellen Gruben of Moose Jaw on April 12, 1958. He worked for CN Rail until his retirement in 1987. James and Mary lived at Stoney Beach until 1990 when they moved into Moose Jaw. Our dad had many friends all who thought the world of him. Common things they often said about him was happy go lucky, the nicest man you could ever meet, he would do anything for you, he would give you the shirt off his back. He was very well respected and liked by all who knew him. James enjoyed going to the Lodges, and to the meat draws, he would seldom miss one of these occasions. He enjoyed his yard and planting his own garden and in the fall making his own pickles. James is predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen in October 1992 and his parents, Harry and Gwendolyn and two brothers: Cyril and George. He will be fondly remembered by his sons: Jim (Cheryl) of Moose Jaw, Ron (Donna) of Medicine Hat, Alta.; Allen (Terri) of Moose Jaw and his daughter Carol (Kelly) Mentanko of Kitimat, BC. Grandpa will be missed by Pamela, Alanna, Christopher, Travis, Justin, Jordan and Kallie as they adored him very much. He leaves to mourn sisters: Pearl, Beth, Marj and Faye; and brother, Raymond and their families as well as numerous relatives and friends. In keeping with his wish, there will be no funeral services. Following cremation, A Memorial Tea to share memories will be held on Monday, December 9, 2002 from 7-9 p.m. at the Elk’s Hall, 358 Langdon Crescent, Moose Jaw. There will be a family interment and dedication in the spring when the flowers are awakening. Donations in James’ memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 0E1 would be appreciated.
