SHERMAN HALES

Sherman Hastings Hales passed away on Tuesday, February 6th, 2001 after a brief illness. Sherman was born in Peterborough, Ontario July 26th, 1907. The family homesteaded in the Newberry District, then moved to the Bevitt-Quincy Districts. He continued to reside and farm there until he moved to Moose Jaw in 1976, when he semi-retired. Sherman was proud of the fact he seeded 64 crops. He is predeceased by his wife Norma and son Bobby; his parents John and Katherine, three brothers and one sister, and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Sherman is survived by his immediate family, John, Sue, Corby, Trena, and Laurie. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Len Finch, sisters-in-law Julian Averill, Elsie Sandham, Elda Bjolverud, Karen McLaren and several nieces and nephews. Following cremation, Private family memorialization will take place at a later time. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to the charity of your choice or to the Shriners Children Fund, c/o Wa Wa Temple, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, Sask., S4P 2E1

GLADYS McKENZIE

Gladys McKenzie (nee Langdon), passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria, B.C. on Monday November 18, 2002. Gladys was born at Petherton, Ontario on June 25, 1907. Adam and Maggie Langdon moved with their five children to the Caron district in the spring of 1913 and later to the Archydal district. Gladys taught at Marlborough School and at Empire School in Moose Jaw before marrying Forbes McKenzie on July 29, 1936 at Wesley United Church. They farmed in the Belbeck district until they retired to Moose Jaw in 1971. Gladys was widowed in 1979. She moved to Victoria in 1993. Gladys is survived by her daughters: Eleanor of Victoria; Elaine of Oakville, Ont.; sons: Gary and wife, Marjorie of Kelowna, their sons, Curtis and Ross; Kenneth and wife, Carolyn of Moose Jaw, their children, Robert (Cora) and Jennifer (Dave) Messner; great-grandchildren: Alex McKenzie, Jillian and Forbes Murray, and Jesse Messner; two sisters-in-law, Sally and Madeline Langdon and many nieces, nephews and families. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, granddaughter, Kathryn, two brothers, three sisters, seven brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law. May God love you and keep you in his care. We love you Mother. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In living memory of Gladys, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RUSSELL RIDGE

RUSSELL “RUSS” L. RIDGE, of Moose Jaw, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2002 at Pioneer Lodge, at the age of 81 years. Born March 7, 1920 at Tugaske, Saskatchewan, Russ served in World War II for four years. For many years he was employed with Shaunavon Union Hospital. During his years in Shaunavon, Russ became known as the gentleman that fixed everyone’s bikes. As most will recall Russ’ love for his garden and flowers. Russ moved to Moose Jaw to retire where he resided until his passing. Predeceased by his parents and a brother, Maurice, Russ is survived by his former wife, Marie of Sidney, B.C., children: Raymond (Bev) of Lake Cowichan, B.C., David of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Kathleen Brown of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Roxanne (Rod) Runzer of Saanichton, B.C.; grandchildren, Raymond Jr., Brent, Wes and Amber, David Jr. Tammie and Teresa, Jason, Emmi, Kris and Evan as well as several great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna Boras of Vancouver, B.C., brothers, Art of Moose Jaw and Herman (Reta) of Saanichton, B.C., sister-in-law, Ruby Ridge of Shaunavon, long time special friend, Dorothy Polley of Moose Jaw and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with the families wish, there will be no funeral services. Memorialization will take place in Sunset Cemetery. Memorials for the War Amps or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Russ, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

MURIEL BROOKS

Muriel Brooks (nee: Williams), of Moose Jaw, passed away at home with her family at her side on Thursday, October 24, 2002. Muriel was born and raised on the family farm near Wallard, Sask. on September 20, 1914. She married Phillip Lock Brooks on January 3, 1942, in St. Thomas, Ontario and they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this year. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1945 and after raising her family, she worked at Canaday’s from 1967 until her retirement in 1979. Her first love was her family and always put their happiness before her own. She was a wonderful cook and spent many hours in her garden. She and Lock enjoyed many trips together and especially liked visiting relatives in England. She was predeceased by her parents George and Mabel Williams. She is survived by her husband Phillip Lock Brooks; children: Robert Brooks (Margaret) of N.Vancouver, B.C. and Beverley Brooks (Max Baldwin) of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Daniel Brooks, Colleen Baldwin (Aage Andre Weider), Graham Baldwin (Nicole Pyett) and Teresa Baldwin; sister: Gertie Green; sisters-in-law: June Ruehs and Ethel Brooks; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including relatives in England. A private family service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Ltd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E. Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1 or Thunder Creek Home Care Palliative Care Services, 455 Fairford St. E. Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3. In living memory of Muriel, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

FRED MARRISON

Mr. Fredrick William Marrison, born August 24, 1922, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2001. Predeceased by his father and mother, Robert and Dorthea Marrison; sister, Mildred Dobbin; brother, Robert Jr; infant sister, Donna; and brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Orda; son, George (June); daughters: MaryLee (Murray); and Donna; grandchildren: Jody (Jarry); Terri; Mark; and great-grandchild, Jaiden. The entire family was together in July ’01 when Fred was able to enjoy their company. Fred was born in Viceroy and moved to Parkbeg at an early age. He served for 4 ˝ years in the Royal Canadian Airforce during W.W.II. Fred and Orda moved to Moose Jaw in 1950. He worked for B.A. Oil/Gulf Canada for 30 years. Fred retired to enjoy his family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed swimming with the guys at the Sportsplex and coffee with the boys at York Auto. At Fred’s request there will be no funeral service. The family invites friends and relatives to a celebration in his honor at the Royal Canadian Legion, 268 High Street West, on Monday, August 20, 2001 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Moose Jaw Home Care/Palliative Care Unit, or the charity of choice, would be appreciated. In living memory of Fred, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JACK FREIDIN

Jack Freidin of Moose Jaw Sask. born September 20, 1917, passed away on Sunday September 16, 2001 at Union Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Chaim and Rachael Freidin. Jack is survived by his wife Rhoda, and children: Norman ( Mary), Victor, Audrey (Alan): grandchildren: Robbyn, Debra, Michael, Carly, and Dan; sister, Sylvia Gibbs from Calgary. Jack was dedicated to community service. He served as an Alderman for the city for eighteen years and was involved in numerous service clubs and organizations such as Lions, Shrine Military Band, YM-YWCA, Chamber of Commerce and many others. Among many honors in recognition of service he was most proud of being named Moose Jaw's Citizen of the Year in 1990. Services will be held on Thursday September 20, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Regina Hebrew Cemetery, 810 Broad St. ( 4th & Broad) Regina.
