Cockburn: Joyce Christina (Nee: Baumwart) passed away on Saturday October 12, 2002 at the age of 77 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband, George Daniel Cockburn, in 1997; father, Lafayette, in 1931; her mother, Olga Marie in 1971; a baby sister Alta in 1923. She is survived by her children: Eleanor (Keith) Akins of Hearne, Lynne Cockburn of Regina and Jim (Fay) Cockburn of Briercrest; grandchildren: Darcy (Mikki) Millar, Mark (Sherri) Akins, Leanne (Ryan) Thompson, Matthew (Lisa Ronnie) Parisian, Ward Cockburn, Darin Cockburn and Jamie Cockburn; great grandchildren: Dalton, Jaida, Ivy, Verik and Wyatt; and by Cathleen McGhee, whom Joyce thought of as a sister. Joyce was born at Kincaid, Saskatchewan January 13, 1925. She attended teachers college and taught at various locations in Saskatchewan, including Briercrest, where she met her husband. Joyce and George were married July 12, 1951. Joyce enjoyed reading, camping and traveling and was an active member of the United Church. She was an avid follower of current events and retained her gifts as a teacher, taking great interest in the education and work life of her children and grandchildren. She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her kindness and humor. Joyce was devoted to her husband and her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with him. A service of remembrance will be held at the Briercrest United Church on Wednesday October 16, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Karen Pearce will officiate. Cremation with memorialization has taken place at the Briercrest Cemetery. Memorials to the Briercrest United Church would be appreciated. In living memory of Joyce, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
DOROTHY HENRY
DOROTHY ELIZABETH HENRY (nee Forster), formerly of Prince Albert and Chez Nous, Moose Jaw, passed away at Extendicare, Moose Jaw on Tuesday, June 19, 2001. Born September 29, 1913 on a farm near Davidson, Dorothy taught school for many years in Shellbrook and Prince Albert, retiring in 1978. She loved to travel, visiting all of Canada, British Isles and Spain. Predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret (Nuhn) Forster, brothers, Jack, Geo, Reg, Roy, Jim, Cecil and sisters, Violet and Myrtle, her husband, David Henry in 1984, grandsons, Kirk and David Iwasyk and son-in-law, Bill Iwasyk. Dorothy will be remembered by her daughters, Marilyn (Jack) Cooper, Jean Iwasyk, Louise (Lloyd) Waddell, brother, Earl (Vi) Forster and sister, Marg MacAllister of Port Coquitlam, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Dorothy’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place with memorialization in Prince Albert at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be forwarded to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Dorothy, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
RACHEL DUNLOP
RACHEL CHRISTINA DUNLOP (nee Hoath) of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully in hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2001 with family by her side. Born at Drinkwater in 1912, Rachel taught school in several rural communities and in 1936 married Edgar Dunlop. She later returned to teaching school until retiring in 1974. Rachel was a proud member of the L.O.B.A., later serving as the Grand Mistress of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association of Saskatchewan. She was actively involved in church and community organizations, many of which benefited from her love of knitting. Rachel was predeceased by her parents, Simon and Anna and daughter, Lois Buck in April 2001. She is survived by her husband, Edgar of Moose Jaw, son, Francis (Jean) of Saskatoon, daughters, Marian Dunlop of Moose Jaw, Shirley (Milton) Neill of Kelliher, Donna (Jackson) Buch of Kelowna, Wendy (Jerry) Exner of Calgary, son-in-law, Frank Buck of Regina, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren a niece, three nephews and cousin, Ray McPhail. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will take place in the family plot, Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orange Home in Indian Head, Sask. c/o The Orange Benevolent Society of Saskatchewan, 1954 Angus Street, Regina, Sask., S4T 1Z6 or to a charity of one’s choice. Bertha "Bert" Pierce
BERTHA EDITH (BERT) PIERCE, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 19, 2001. Born on a farm near Avonlea, November 14, 1926, her family moved to Moose Jaw in 1928 where Bert attended school at William Grayson and Central Collegiate. After school, Bert worked at Robin Hood Mills and married Ken Pierce June 1, 1946. Together, they raised a family of nine. Bert was an active long time member of the Order of the Royal Purple of the Elks Club. She enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and especially spending time with her family and summers at the lake. Bert was predeceased by her parents Lillian and Ole Flottorp, sisters Lorraine and Marge ( Cal ) Schaeffer, daughter Linda (El) Schantz, sons Danny (Vivian) and Bob (Joan), and her grandson Cody. Bert will be missed and lovingly remembered by her best friend and life long companion, Ken, her sister Ethel Wiseman, daughters Carol (Raimo) Kujala, Kathie Harlos and special friend Andy Vadasz, sons David and special friend JoAnn Farrow, Pat, Mark (Debbie) and Mike (Jennifer) as well as twenty-one grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Cremation will follow and Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of Bert may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre ( 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Sask., S4T 7T1 ).
ROY GADD
Mr. Roy Gadd of Moose Jaw and formerly of the Drinkwater district, passed away Thursday May 17, 2001 at the age of 74 years. Roy was born August 28, 1926. He attended Coventry School until 1937 when he moved to Drinkwater School. Roy married Norma Smith of Rouleau in 1950 and they lived and farmed near Drinkwater. They moved to Moose Jaw in the fall of 1999. In the winter, they enjoyed trips to Arizona. Roy is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Norma; three sons: Gerald (Lois) – Regina; Jack (Kathy) – Drinkwater; Stuart (Terry) – Drinkwater; five grandchildren: Jayson, Sarah, Lyndsay, Kelsea, and Katie; one brother, Keith (Jean) – Drinkwater; three sisters: Mae (John) Watson – Swift Current; Hazel Bean – Regina; Irene Watson – Regina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Tuesday May 22, 2001 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. LESLIE ANDERSON
Leslie Madelaine Anderson passed away peacefully in the home of good friends on Monday, February 4, 2002 at the age of 71 years. She is survived by her three daughters: April and her partner, Rob; Rhonda; and Lauril; granddaughters, Raichelle, Arielle, and Sydney; sisters: Vivian McGinn; and Elaine Evans; and her many friends and neighbors. Her kindness and generosity was evidenced by her willingness to open her heart and home to others. She had a lively curiosity about people and events, yet offered sympathy rather than judgment. Family and friends appreciated her strong will, sense of humour, and recognition that joy in life is made as well as found. She will be remembered. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rouleau United Church Thursday, February 7, 2002 at 2:00 pm. The family would like to give special thanks to Pat and Emil and her other dear friends in Rouleau.
