Beatrice Haliwyz (nee Schantz), passed away on December 1, 2002 at the age of 78 years. Bea was born at Rush Lake, Sask., the eldest of nine children. At a young age Bea took on the responsibilities of helping her mother raise the family. She married Mike Haliwyz in 1943 in Moose Jaw where they continued to reside and raise their family. Bea will be remembered by her family as the “matriarch” of the family. She was involved in community volunteering and enjoyed gardening, oil painting, and crafts. Bea is predeceased by her husband, Mike; a brother, Sterling, and daughter-in-law, Sharon. She is survived by her family: daughters, Fay (Alex) Gerrard – Yorkton; Marie (Nolan) McLaren – Conroe, Texas; Kathy (Dave) Sauve – Regina; two sons: Jim (Joan) – Moose Jaw; and Andy (Deb) – Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Alana and Angie Gerrard; Tyler (Marsha) McLaren, Kecia McLaren; Raizel and Kessie Haliwyz (Sauve); Sheila (Luc) Larochelle, Laurie (Barry) Way, Cory (Kathy) Haliwyz; and Stefanie and Michael Haliwyz; also nine great-grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers. Funeral Services will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, 2 Wintergreen Drive, on Friday December 6, 2002, at 2:30 pm. Pastor Phil Canning of Westmount Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to Westmount Baptist Church, Box 90, Moose Jaw, S6H 5V2, would be appreciated. IRENE ELLINGSON
It is with great sadness that the family of IRENE ELLINGSON announces her sudden passing on Monday, March 4, 2002. She was 65 years of age. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years, Merv Ellingson; sons Ryan (Patsy), Richard (Michelle) and granddaughter Alexandra. Irene will be remembered lovingly by the many relatives and friends who were touched by her warmth and unflagging spirit. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Omar and Vera Rackel, and her brother John. Irene was born on March 19, 1936, at North Battleford. She dedicated her life to the comfort of others and became a Registered Nurse. Irene practiced nursing in Moose Jaw until her retirement in 1996. A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2002 at 1:30p.m. at the Alliance Church, corner of 9th Ave. N.W. and Thatcher Drive, Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials for the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, S6H 7K7 would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. VIVIAN POULTON
MRS. VIVIAN POULTON (formerly HAMMOND), passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2001 in Moose Jaw. Vivian was born in Moose Jaw, February 10, 1918 and raised on the family farm in Assiniboia. Vivian was predeceased by her first husband Les Hammond in 1958 and second husband Stanley Poulton in 1986, her parents William and Jessie Patterson and two brothers, Foster and Bill. Vivian leaves to mourn her son, Terry (Shirley) Hammond of Kelowna, B.C., and their sons, Scott and Todd; son, Garth (Dianne) Hammond of Moose Jaw and their children, Jennifer, Megan, Brent and Jeremy; daughter, Diane Brundage of Regina and children, Andrea and Jeff; step-son, Brian (Sue) Poulton of Australia and their daughter, Kelsey, step-daughter, Sandra Poulton of Calgary; and her dear sister Lois Phillips of Vancouver. Following cremation, A Service to Celebrate the Life of Vivian will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion United Church, 423 Main St. N., Moose Jaw. MURRAY ROBINSON
JAMES (MURRAY) ROBINSON, born February 25, 1910, died July 15, 2002 after a brief stay in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Murray received his education at King George Elementary and Central Collegiate schools. He attended Normal School from 1927 – 1928 and began teaching at Clinton School District, north of Moose Jaw. He married Edith Buffett in 1937 and the couple resided in Moose Jaw. Murray taught for twenty-six years at Central Collegiate, two years at Riverview Collegiate and five years as Deputy Director of Education for the Moose Jaw Public Board of Education retiring in 1975. He obtained his B.A., and B.Ed degrees from University of Manitoba and received his Master of Arts Degree from Berkley, California. Murray was Past-President of the Kinsmen Club and life member of the K-40 Club, Past-President of Moose Jaw Rotary Club, a member of Zion United Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 3. Predeceased by his wife, Edith Robinson (December 27, 1996), only daughter, Janet Lynn Morgan ( July 24, 2000), sister, Kay Whatley (1994); brothers: Laird (1981), Milt (1989) and George (1990) and his parents, Rhoda and Charles. Murray is survived by son-in-law, Peter Morgan of Calgary; grandchildren: Jennifer and Colin - both of Calgary, brother, Maxwell (Ida) of Victoria as well as several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church, 423 Main St. N., Moose Jaw. Dr. Bob Kimmerly will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1 or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. W.R. DICK CLARKE
W.R. (DICK) CLARKE, born August 21, 1925, died April 7, 2002. Dick was born and raised in the Hearne District where he resided until his passing. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Clarke; brothers: Les (Mira), Jack and Lloyd (Elinor); sisters: Dora (Hank) Tyson and Irene (Stan) Rath; sister-in-law, Artiss Clarke, brother-in-law, Doug Fotheringham and a grandson, Scott Clarke. Left to mourn are his wife of 56 years, Katherine, daughter, Janice (Jim) Armstrong; four sons: Ron (Judith), Marvin (Valda), Allan (Lorraine) and Blaine (Janice); sisters: Ruby (Lloyd) Miller and Edna Fotheringham; brothers: Harvey (Gwen) Clarke, Jim Clarke, Dale (Avis) Clarke; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Clarke as well as many nieces and nephews. Following cremation, A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Don Bater will officiate. Private family memorialization will take place. On Friday, December 6, 2002, James Arthur Andrews passed away in Central Butte Hospital with his family by his side. Jim was born February 5, 1923 on the family farm 10 miles north of Chaplin. Jim was a born farmer and a friend to all. He planted trees which he enjoyed greatly. Jim could turn his hand to many things, repairing etc. He also became quite a carpenter and built many cupboards for numerous homes in the surrounding district. Jim was Mr. Fix-it for all our families. Jim will be long mourned and remembered by family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Agatha Andrews; sister, June Bissonette; nephew, Terry Christensen; and great-granddaughter, Rebecka Gray. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Hazel; daughter, Bonny (Gary) Adrian; son, Barry (Doreen) Andrews; two brothers, Bryan Stebbins of Medicine Hat, Jack (Carol) Andrews of Chaplin; two sisters, Evelyne Christensen of Penticton, B.C.; and Betty Peck of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; four granddaughters: Corrie Adrian-Gray (Wade), Sherry Martens (Len), Angie Andrews (Jody), and Nikki Andrews (Will); three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emma Gray and Spencer Martens. Funeral Services will be held at the Chaplin Community Complex, Wednesday December 11, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Sandra Sellars will officiate. Interment will follow at the Chaplin Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Dennis Ball, Wade Gray, Len Martens, Bud Isley, Larry Andrews, and Glen Colenutt. Ushers are: Don Mackow and Glen Linton. Organist is Helen Cooper. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Central Butte Hospital, or the Chaplin Cemetery Fund, would be appreciated.
