DOUG BELL

On Monday, June 17, 2002, Robert Douglas “Doug” Bell retired farmer of Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with family by his side, at Moose Jaw Union Hospital at the age of 85 years. Doug, son of Robert and Christina, was born October 29, 1916, on the farm north of Riverhurst, Saskatchewan. His education was obtained at Boldenhurst and finished in Riverhurst. He married Edith Jones on July 6, 1943, at Conquest, Saskatchewan. In 1951 he moved to town and started a dairy which he carried on for three years. Doug enjoyed a life of grain farming and raising livestock to the fullest. He entertained many children with a Pony Ride, which he and his family traveled to many sports days. Through his life he was a member of the fire department, town council, rink board, caretaker of the skating rink, and also served as the Mayor of Riverhurst. Doug also served on the Park Board and later was one of the main surveyors who mapped out and helped develop Palliser Park. Over and above these he also ensured the hockey teams were taken across the lake by means of horse and snowmobile. On numerous occasions Doug’s veterinarian skills were put to the test for many farmers in the local area. Gardening season was always a friendly competition with his close friends and family. His woodworking projects became a full time hobby when he retired. Doug spent many hours by the shores with his fishing rod challenging anyone a dollar for the first fish. His great love for animals remained with him until his passing. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Christina; brothers-in-law, George and Bob and great-grandchild, Duncan. He will always be remembered by his wife, Edith; daughters: Jean, Mae (Gary), Linda, Barb (Kerry), Marg (Cal), Marion, Rene and Glady; grandchildren: Annette (Rick), Kathy (Kevin), Brent (Christine), Tricia (Terry), Tammy (Shawn), Tennille (Aaron), Tara, Chris (Kim), Chad, Dustin, Craig, Kristan, Janelle and Emily; great-grandchildren; Ashley, Erik, James, Brody, Carson and Jeremy; sister, Doris and sister-in-law, Jean as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, cremation took place at Prairie Memorial Crematorium in Moose Jaw. A private family graveside service was held on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Riverhurst Cemetery. Following the service a Memorial Tea was held at the Riverhurst Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Riverhurst United Church. In living memory of Doug, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home.

MARY BRADLEY

MRS. D. MARY BRADLEY (nee Henderson ), passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2001. She was born, raised and educated in Moose Jaw. She was a cashier at Safeway and later at Eaton’s. After marrying Lindsay Bradley the couple moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan where they raised their two children. Twenty years later they returned to Moose Jaw where she has resided ever since. She was a Life Member of Zion U.C.W. (Fidelis Group) and later became a member of Minto United Church. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Lindsay in 1979 and sister, Margaret. She is survived by her son, Howard (Janie) of Sylvan Lake, Alta. and daughter, Bonnie (Bill) Mitchell of Ottawa, grandchildren: Carolyn, Melanie, Rob, Melanie, Katherine, Alison, Rob and Carmen and six great-grandchildren, sister, Anne Berezuk of Calgary, Alta., sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Gary Johnson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 0E1 would be appreciated. In living memory of Mary, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ORVILLE GRASLEY

Mr. Orville M. Grasley passed away peacefully at Providence Place on Monday, September 23, 2002 at the age of 83 years. Orville was born August 18, 1919 in Lawson, Sask. He was raised on the family farm near Lawson and received his public education there. He then attended Notre Dame College at Wilcox, receiving his BA degree. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and after the War he taught for two years. Orville then became Secretary of the RM of Calderbank, later becoming Secretary/Manager for the Army, Navy & Airforce Veterans in Moose Jaw until his retirement in 1984. Orville loved to watch sports and especially enjoyed playing cards and reading. He is predeceased by his wife, Anne in 1985 and brothers, Bill, Max, Stan, and Charlie. Orville is survived by his stepdaughter, Denise (Terry) McKechnie; stepsons: Sherman and Mike Drennan; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice and Calla Grasley; nieces, a nephew and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Providence Place for their excellent care. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel onThursday, September 26, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Army, Navy & Airforce Veteran’s funeral rites will be conducted at the Chapel. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford Street East, Moose Jaw, Sask. In living memory of Orville, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

EDWARD MARTIN

EDWARD STANLEY MARTIN of Moose Jaw, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2001 in Regina General Hospital as the result of a heart attack at the age of 62 years. Born April 5, 1939 in Stratford, Ontario, he was predeceased by his father, Wilbert Stanley Martin, mother, Clara Louise, and brother, Don Martin. Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda, son, Kevin (Christine) of Moose Jaw, Shaun and Kimberly (Tad) of Moose Jaw, his greatest joy of all, grandson, Cyric and best friend, Rick (Carol) McDonald. Ed loved to camp in the summer and during the winter, enjoyed attending Mardis Gras in New Orleans. Ed had served with the Canadian Armed Services in Peace Keeping for 22 years in places such as Germany, Egypt, as well as other parts of Europe and the Middle East and was a member of the Royal Canadian Armed Services Corps. Funeral Services will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the chapel by Moose Jaw Branch #59. Interment will be made at the Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials for the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2 would be appreciated. In living memory of Ed, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

CLARENCE G. HEAGY

CLARENCE GEORGE HEAGY was born on April 12, 1917 at Joeville (Lisieux), Sask. and passed away at his home in Moose Jaw on June 6, 2001. Clarence was raised and went to school in the Lisieux and Kabrude districts, finishing his schooling at Kanton School, all near where his family farmed north of Fife Lake, Sask. He joined the Army in 1941, then transferred a year later to the Air Force based mainly at Calgary. In 1942 he married Bernice Borgerson and after the War they settled and farmed near Rockglen, Sask. In 1959 he moved his family to Moose Jaw working for Meyer’s Rodeo for a few years, then operating a livestock trucking business until 1970. He then worked at the Moose Jaw Stockyards as a yardman until his retirement. His retirement years were filled with fishing, hunting, traveling, his hobbies, and of course sharing his interests with his grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by his wife, Bernice; and children and their families: Blaine (Marylin) - Prince Albert; Lael (Ramish) Bhambhani - Edmonton; Frank - Calgary; Margery (Dave) McCord - Moose Jaw; Stephen (Bev) - Leduc, Alta; and Clayton (Laura) – Cochrane, Alta; brothers and sisters: Esther Burke - Regina; Floyd - Princeton, B.C.; Ruby (Harvey) Chute - Calgary; Rodney (Anna) - Rockglen; Frances (Arnold) Riemer - Keswick, Ont.; Clare (Vange) - Saskatoon; and Vincent (Susan) - Saskatoon; and sister-in-law, Mary Heagy - Assiniboia. Clarence is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen Heagy; brothers: Lloyd, Erwin (Emma); sister, Doris (Tony) Cardinal; and an infant daughter, Helen. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's United Church on Saturday June 9, 2001 at 10:30 am. Rev. Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Interment will follow at the Little Woody Cemetery south of Willow Bunch at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1, would be appreciated. In living memory of Clarence, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ELIZABETH MARTYNIUK

ELIZABETH KATHLEEN MARTYNIUK of Extendicare, Moose Jaw, passed away on December 1, 2001 at the age of eighty-one years. She was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, September 16, 1920 to Jacob and Elizabeth Wagner. Betty was employed in Dietary at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital until her retirement. She was an avid dart player and won many trophies. She enjoyed playing Bingo, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty recently received her 35 year pin from the Army & Navy Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her parents, granddaughter, Carrie and most recently her son, Ken. Betty is survived by her husband, Harold, sons, Bruce (Norma), Keith (Sherry), Bill (Leah), daughter, Ramona (Clint), brother, John (Shirley), sister, Doreen (Leonard) as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews.
Betty will be missed by all who knew & loved her
In keeping with Betty’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place and private family memorialization will take place at a later date. In living memory of Betty, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
