MR. ROBERT (BOB) HARROD of Moose Jaw, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2001 at the age of 67 years. Born June 2, 1934 at Newdale, Manitoba. Bob’s working life was spent in the automobile sales in various places. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Moose Jaw Warriors having been very active in the organization. Predeceased by his parents, John and Florence, brothers and sisters: Maude, Bill, Violet, Albert, Dorothy and Fred. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-one years, Mary Dell, son, Robert (Bob) and his wife, Julianne, children: Elyse and Mary Elizabeth of Calgary, Alta.; daughter, Tamara (Tami) and friend, James Carroll of Toronto, Ont.; sister-in-law, Ann (Edward) Barnett of Grandview, Man., brother-in-law, Gerald (Shirley) Rutherford of Glenboro, Man. And numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Peter J. Calhoun will officiate. Memorialization will follow in the Garden of Memories, St. Andrew’s United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moose Jaw St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 0L2 or to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation of Excellence, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3. ALICE MATHIESON
ALICE JANE CLARKE MATHIESON, age 102 years, of Providence Place, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2001. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on May 14, 1899, she married Cummin Mathieson on November 16, 1921 and with her family, moved to Canada in 1929. They farmed in the Rockglen area until the war broke out, moving to Moose Jaw in 1939. She joined the Ladies Orange Lodge and became a life member. Alice had her first family reunion in Moose Jaw in 1996 and in 1999, celebrated her 100th birthday and her first ride in a limousine. Prior to her move into Providence Place on February 19, 200, Alice lived in Rockglen, Saskatchewan and at Victoria Towers for the past sixteen years. Predeceased by her husband, Cummin, daughters, Margaret Kopko, Violet Stulberg, daughter-in-law, Shirley, sons-in-law, Harry Huttala, Mike Kopko and Gus Stulberg and sisters, Mina and Liz. Alice is lovingly remembered by her family: sons, Sandy of Chilliwack, B.C., James (Lynn) of Kelowna, B.C., daughters, Florence Huttala of Moose Jaw, Alice (Frank) Jepps of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., Jean (Robert) Amon of Taylor, B.C., fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. BILL EDGAR
Austin Samuel (Bill) Edgar, passed away November 23, 2002 at the age of 93 years. Bill was born on March 19, 1909 at Owen Sound, Ontario. Bill was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan, an honourary member of the Scottish Rite, a member of Minto United Church and the Vintage Aircraft Restorers. He is predeceased by his parents, Lillie and Walter Edgar; two brothers, Jack and Joseph; sisters, Ruth Rowan and Agnes (Apperley) McCaw. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; son, D.Walter Edgar; daughter, Donna (Don) Maxwell; grandchildren, Darrin (Michelle) Maxwell and Duncan Maxwell; and sisters, Emma Rowan and Jean Hollman. A Memorial Service will be held at Minto United Church on Wednesday November 27, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. BALZER HEILMAN
MR. BALZER HEILMAN of Providence Place, Moose Jaw, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at the age of 91 years. Born July 16, 1909 in Selz, North Dakota, U.S.A. to Bartholomew and Rosina Heilman, he came to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1913. They lived in Fox Valley, Leader, Mortlach districts before moving to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Balzer worked at Swift’s Cattle Co. until it closed, then worked for the Separate School as caretaker, later worked for John J. Craigen Construction before starting his own construction Co. – B.A. Heilman Construction, retiring in 1974. He married Christina Flora McPherson of Wapella, Saskatchewan in 1936. They had a family of two daughters and six sons. Predeceased by his wife, Christina Flora in 1963, daughter, Christina Heilman in 2000, granddaughter, Christina Florinda Heilman in 1970, his father, Bartholomew in 1970 and mother, Rosina in 1985, brothers: Charlie Heilman in 1985, John Heilman in 1997, Andrew Heilman in 1997, Joe Heilman in 1998 and Vince Heilman in 2000, brother-in-law, Bill Jones, sisters-in-law: Edith Heilman, Betty Heilman and Mary Heilman and a grandson-in-law, Bruce Durrant. Balzer is survived by his daughter, Frances (Alfred) Gomersall and family of the Moose Jaw district; sons: Joe (Leona) Heilman and family of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jerome Heilman of Shaunghnesy, Alberta, Philip (Priscella) Heilman and family of Lethbridge, Alberta, Fred (Joyce) Heilman and family of Moose Jaw, Clarence Heilman and friend, Karen and his family of Victoria, B.C., Clifford (Lena) Heilman and family of Saskatoon, seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Clementine Jones, Anne (Joe) Tress of Moose Jaw, Sister Mary of Trinity (Florence) of Regina, Saskatchewan, Rosemary Torcogh of Toronto, Ontario, Julia (Henry) LaBrie of Kelowna, B.C.; sisters-in-law: Margaret Heilman and Eleanor Heilman; special daughters-in-law: Louise Heilman and Vila Heilman as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30th, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064-3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw. Reverend Father David Cottingham C.Ss.R. will Preside. Interment will follow in the Family Plot, Rosedale Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held Monday, January 29th, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. JUSTIN McNUTT
Justin Davis McNutt of Moose Jaw, passed away suddenly on September 13, 2002 at a Special Care Home in Craik. Justin enjoyed being around his family and friends. He especially enjoyed stories, music, and going to dances. Justin was courageous and brave in all the curves that life had to throw him. He had his own special way of showing his love for you by his bright smile and cheerful laugh. Justin was a very special boy who was loved and cherished by all. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Justin is survived by his parents: Sherry and Gareth Ward and Todd Roszell; his brothers: Garrick Ward and Jacob Roszell; his grandparents: Margaret McNutt, Ron McNutt, Gene and Rolene Ward and Diane and Norris Roszell; great-grandparents: Vera McNutt, Phyllis Hill, and Louise Bergeron; aunts and uncles: Pat and Lindsey McNutt, Tammy and Boe Bouqet (McNutt), Cindy McNutt, Mike and Kristen McNutt, Marcy McNutt, Geoffery Ward, and Laura and Joe Wills (Roszell); his cousins: McKayla Ward, Aaron McNutt, Joshua Nesvold (McNutt) and McKenzie McNutt. Justin will also be remembered by his many great-uncles and great-aunties, cousins and friends. “Justin, you will always be in our hearts.” Special thanks to the staff and Doctors at the Craik Health Centre. HILDA CHERRY
Hilda Jerleen Cherry (nee Leib) peacefully passed away November 14, 2001 at Providence Place, Moose Jaw, Sask. Hilda was born in Edenwold, Sask. on April 24, 1919. She resided in Saskatoon for forty-eight years. She will especially be remembered for her devotion to family and friends. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Robert Orville (Bud); brother, Fred Leib; sisters: Marian McDonald, Ivy Leib, Anne Lowe; and long time friend, Art Cory. She will be sadly missed by daughters: Maureen (Larry) Happy of Saskatoon; and Sharon (John) Wetherill of Moose Jaw; granddaughters: Shelley (John) Saleski and Jerleen Wetherill; special great-granddaughter: Tarren Saleski; brother, Wilber Leib; and sisters: Rose Tanner and Elva Hotchkin. Sincere thanks to the staff at Providence Place and Chez Nous, and Dr. Sanderson. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date in Saskatoon.
