VIOLET E. ALEXANDER

Violet Edith Alexander, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Village, Moose Jaw on August 22, 2002 at the age of 87 years. Vi is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Gerald William Alexander; parents, Emma and Philip Godman; and brother, Jim George Godman. Vi lived her life caring for her family, friends, and all of her animal companions. She is lovingly remembered by Gerry and Debbie Dyck of Balgonie. Vi will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Sincere thanks to the staff of Moose Jaw Pioneer Village Nursing Home for their love and care for Vi during her stay at the Home. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Monday, August 26, 2002 at 11:00 am. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorials in Vi’s name to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, Moose Jaw, S6H 7K7, would be appreciated. In living memory of Vi, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

WILLIAM (BILL) CLACE

Mr. William John (Bill) Clace of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on Monday May 20, 2002 at home with his children by his side. Dad was born on February 27, 1925 in Plymouth, England. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy overseas in the Second World War. During his career as a carpenter Dad built the first two hundred houses in Thompson, Manitoba for the International Nickel Company. He was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion #59. Dad loved bowling, fishing, gardening and just being outdoors. As kids we enjoyed Dad’s Sunday morning doughnuts. Dad was very artistic and many times he practiced on the cabin walls while we got to paint the pictures. Mom and Dad’s house was decorated by the many creative ornaments they owned. Predeceased by his loving wife Janet – May 2001, his parents: William and Winnifred Clace; brothers: Reginald, Ronald, Ernest, Frederick; and sister Phyllis. Bill is survived by his children: Linda (Darwin) Graham, Brian (Patti) Clace all of Thompson, Manitoba; Brenda (Dale) Wilson, Darwin (Nicole) Clace, Murray (Rose) Clace, Dale (Jackie) Clace all of Moose Jaw and Heather (Rick) Smith – Regina; seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as his brothers: Robert and Thomas; sisters: Rosemary, Lillian and Winnifred and sisters-in-law: Grace, Margaret and Lillian. Cremation with a private Family Memorialization will take place and interment to take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Poppy Fund – Royal Canadian Legion 268 High St W. Moose Jaw In living memory of Bill Clace, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JACK RUSSELL

Mr. John (Jack) Carson Russell passed away peacefully at Avonlea Villa on July 25, 2002 at the age of 93 years. Jack was born August 2, 1908 at Brockville, Ontario. Jack farmed at Kelstern and moved to Moose Jaw in 1956 where he worked for Western Dodge for a number of years before retiring. He is predeceased by his wife, Agnes (1967); his sisters: Lois Spencer and Alice Russell; and one stepson, Brian Johnson. He is survived by his wife Mildred – Avonlea Villa; sons: Allan (Marjorie) – Swift Current and their children: Jackie (Albert) Fischer, Barry (Bernadette) Russell, Dawn (Rob) Whiteside, Sandi (Jason) Silzer, Marcy Russell (Trevor); Ron (Audrey) - Saskatoon and their children: David (Jacquie) Russell, Gerry (Tammy) Russell; Jim (Sandra) – Saskatoon and their children: Shauna (Shane) Evans, and Laurie Russell; daughter, Penny Lee (Ken) Markewich and their son, Stephen; stepdaughter, Gail (Don) O’Connor and their children: Ryan (Susie) and Tara; stepdaughter-in-law, Linda and children: Trudy (Mark) Halvorson, and Tracy (Steve) Elliott; and nineteen great- grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 1:00 pm. Reverend John Duerkson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Tuesday morning, 10 – 11:30 am at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Avonlea Villa Staff Fund, Box 239, Avonlea, S0C 0C0, would be appreciated. In living memory of Jack, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RUTH EKDAHL

RUTH CORDELIA ‘Nanny’ EKDAHL, age 94 years, of Saskatoon and formerly of Moose Jaw passed away at the Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon on Thursday, January 24, 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cal (Karen) Ekdahl of Saskatoon and Alda (Harold) Klause of Saskatoon; five grandchildren: Clint (Lynn) Ekdahl, Twila Ekdahl, Starla (Eric) Theriault, Treanne (Don) Hendrickson and Kerri Klause; five great-grandchildren: Brandon Ekdahl, Courtney and Ryan Ekdahl and Michael and Victoria Hendrickson. Also left to mourn are her brothers: Clarence (Violet) Benson and Gilman (Inga) Benson and her sister, Lillian (Allan) Cowan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Myrtle Farnham and Selma Ekdahl and brother Ervin Benson. Following cremation, a Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at 1:30 p.m in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Stensrud Lodge, 2202 McEown Ave., Saskatoon, Sask., S7J 3L6. In living memory of Ruth, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

MARTHA NEWBERRY

MRS. MARTHA MAY NEWBERRY (McFadden), of Moose Jaw, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2002. Born November 6, 1913 on the farm in the Crestwynd district, daughter of John and Marry Jane McFadden. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Predeceased by her husband, Oliver T. Newberry in 1963, her father in 1951, her mother in 1943, a sister, Catharine Grayson in 1970 and a brother, Jarvis in 1974. Martha is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and kind friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Peter J. Calhoun will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials for the Shriners Hospital for Children c/o Wa Wa Shrine Centre, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, Sask., S4P 2E1, would be appreciated. In living memory of Martha, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LEN (MOOSE) LEE

On Saturday, June 16, 2001, HARRY ERNEST LEONARD LEE passed away at Providence Place, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by his father W. T. Lee and his mother, Louise Lee of Rouleau; two sisters: Ruth Wallace and Helen Potter; three brothers: Bill, Harley and Ernest. Len is survived by many nieces and nephews. Len who was known as “Moose” was born at Pitman, Saskatchewan, on July 2, 1922. He attended Rouleau school and joined the air force in 1941 and was stationed in Toronto, Mossbank, Dafoe and England. After the war Len returned to Rouleau and worked as a farm hand for Harry Johnson and Lloyd Weckman. He later hauled grain and gravel for Sanborn & Diminyatz. In 1953 he began his carpentry business until 1992. After retirement Len spent his days at Westrum Lumber doing any job Len could be convinced to do. In 1997 Len moved into Providence Place because of Alzheimer's. Len’s interests included hockey, hunting and fishing. He spent a lot of his time with the Larsen families. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rouleau United Church. Reverend Caroline Argue will will officiate. Interment will follow at Rouleau Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rouleau Curling & Skating Club, Box 273, Rouleau, Sask., S0G 4H0. In living memory of Len, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley Parkland by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

EDITH ADAMS

Mrs. Edith Adams of Moose Jaw, passed away February 8, 2002 at the age of 80 years. Born in Prince Albert, Sask. on September 16, 1921. She married Robert “Bob” Adams and they moved to Moose Jaw in 1958. Edith loved to bake and was always involved with her family’s activities. She worked at the Army & Navy Dept. Store for 25 years, retiring in 1991. Predeceased by her husband, Bob in 1992; her parents; two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her sons: Bryan (Linda) – Moose Jaw; Barry (Gail) – North Battleford; grandchildren: Chris, Tianna, Jonathan, Jocelynne, and Michael; great-grandchild: Irelynd; and many nieces, nephews and relatives. Memorial Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at 1:30 pm. Rev. Derek Nicholls will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P2, would be appreciated. In living memory of Edith, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
