MRS. GLADYS IRENE McNAMEE of Moose Jaw, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at the age of 89 years. Born in South Wales, Great Britain in 1912, she came to Canada in 1923 to Ardill, Saskatchewan, moving to Nanaimo, B.C. and then to Moose Jaw. Gladys was predeceased by her husbands, Jay Harvey Schermerhorn and Donald McNamee, parents, James and Louisa Tattershall, brother, John, two sisters, Maud and Fan, daughter, Edith, sons-in-law, Glenn, Malcolm and Blackie, grandsons, Jerry, Henri, Ricky and Trevor. She is survived by her children, Irene, Barbara, Robert, Vedder, Raymond, Betty, William, Marlene, Dennis, Jean, Shirley, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, Floss and Vera, nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place at the Mossbank Cemetery. Memorials for Providence Place, 100-2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1B8 would be appreciated. In living memory of Gladys, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. WILMA POND
Wilma Mae Pond (nee Wood), passed away September 11, 2002 at the age of 89 years. Wilma was born May 3, 1913 on the family homestead, and received her schooling at Vantage. She came to Moose Jaw for a hairdressing course, and has resided here since. Wilma dedicated years of volunteer service to St. John’s Ambulance, beginning in 1943, becoming a lifetime member after 50 years. She became a Serving Sister in 1960, Officer Sister in 1976, Superintendent from 1967-70 and became Commander in 1990. She also volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics for over 40 years beginning in 1950, 20 years with the rest beds. Wilma was also United Way canvassing organizer for over 20 years. Wilma is predeceased by her parents, William and Alberta Wood; her husband, Russell Pond; brothers: Harry, Wraymond and Charles; sister, Isabelle MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Walt Kindopp, Pat Patterson and Ken MacDonald; sister-in-law, Hilia Wood, nephew, Richard Wood and niece, Wendy Duncan (Kindopp). She is survived by two sisters: Irma Patterson – Moose Jaw, and Eva Kindopp – Assiniboia; sister-in-law, Carolyn Wood – Moose Jaw; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 3:30 pm. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends, Friday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. RALPH DONEY
Mr. Ralph Doney of Providence Place and longtime resident of Boharm passed away peacefully on Friday February 15, 2002 at the age of 87 years. Born in Moose Jaw April 20, 1914 and raised in the Boharm district. Ralph farmed in this district all his life. He enjoyed farming and especially his love and care for all his livestock. In 1945 he married Gladys his first wife. She passed away in 1986 after forty-one years of marriage. On October 1991, Ralph married Alma Fortman and the couple resided in Moose Jaw. Predeceased by his parents; an infant son, James and his first wife, Gladys; four brothers: Harold, Don, Vivian, Eric and two sisters: Joyce and Marguerite. He is survived by his wife: Alma – Moose Jaw; daughter: Betty (Robert) Whiteman: Ninton Junction, Alberta; son: Gordon (Nancy ) – Moose Jaw, step-daughter, Etta (Bill) Froats – Moose Jaw; step-son: Robert (Shirley) Fortman – Brownlee; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday February 20, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Phil Canning will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association 104 – 2301 Ave. C. North, Saskatoon, Sk. RENA McAVOY
On Friday, November 2, 2001, RENA McAVOY (BRADLEY) of Moose Jaw, passed away at the age of 76 years. Rena was born at Aquadell, Saskatchewan on March 30, 1925. She worked as a Nurses’ Aide until her marriage to Wesley McAvoy in 1964. She then became a homemaker. Predeceased by her father, Leo, Rena is survived by her loving husband, Wesley, her daughters: Theresa (Richard) Bray of Calgary, AB. and Sheila (James) Bedard of Melfort, SK. as well as three grandchildren: Katie Bray and Adam & Joanie Bedard. She is also survived by her mother, Ellen Klatt of Saskatoon and three brothers: Ken (Alvena) Bradley of Saskatoon, Leo Bradley of Kelowna and Allan (Brenda) Bradley of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 409 Oxford St. W., Moose Jaw. Pastor Robert Rud will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Fund, 409 Oxford St. W., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 2P4. GEORGE W. NOREEN
George Walter Noreen, of Moose Jaw passed away after a brief illness, on Thursday, August 22, 2002 at the age of 82 years. George was born in Moose Jaw on September 30, 1919 to Nels and Julia and lived his entire life in Moose Jaw. George married Nellie Krawchyk on March 19, 1938, and together they raised two sons. He was employed with C.P. Rail, retiring in 1980. George was an active “garage saler” who also enjoyed the time he spent with his coffee row buddies. He also enjoyed fishing and generously enjoyed his grandchildren and family. George is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Nellie; and several brothers and sisters, he is survived by sons: Dennis (Sharon) and their children, Tanya, Dana and Jana; Ken (Terry) and their children: Kevin (Lana) and Keith; brother, Stan (Doreen); sister, Ester (Bob) Nidd; brother-in-law, Sam Richmond; a very special niece Louise (Dick) Hunter of Penticton, B.C.; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, one great-grandchild, Julia; and many special friends. At George’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place at Prairie Memorial Crematorium with memorialization to follow at the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 1061, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P8, would be appreciated. In living memory of George, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. IVAN BAYNE
Ivan James Bayne, beloved husband of Esther for sixty years passed away Friday, November 22, 2002 at the age of 87. Ivan is predeceased by his parents, Ansley and Margaret; sister Dorothy; brother Robert; and infant sister Eleanor. Ivan will be fondly remembered by his son, Gerald (Lynne) Regina: grandson, Erin (Heather) and special great-granddaughter, Hannah Sherwood Park, AB.; grandson, Ryan (Robin) Regina; sister, Jean (Doug) Getson Saanichton, B.C.; brother Ron, (Marion) Bayne Red Deer, AB.; sister-in-law, Cecilia Barwell Moose Jaw; brother-in-law, Keith (Blanche) Barwell Kelowna, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ivan was born on the family farm in the Tuxford district on May 8, 1915. Ivan began farming at 16 when his father passed away. His love of the land was life long. Besides farming, Ivan enjoyed woodworking, furniture refinishing, collecting Saskatchewan license plates, and motorcycle touring on his Harley in his younger years. Ivan and Esther have always been actively involved in the United Church at Huron, Tuxford, and Minto. Ivan took great pleasure and pride in fixing and repairing things at the farm, church, church camp, and condo. A Celebration of Ivans Life will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave. N.W., on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Moose Jaw Cemetery. Memorials to Minto United Church, or the charity of choice, would be appreciated.
