Peacefully at Avonlea Villa, SK, Joseph Sargenia, passed away in his sleep on Monday, September 2, 2002, at the age of 92 years. Joe was born December 2, 1909 in Winnipeg, MB, to Lorenzo Antonio and Maria Michaella Sargenia. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother George in 1970, and his wife Rose in 1994. Joe is survived by his brother Peter of Vancouver, BC, his sister Mae Garratt of Moose Jaw, SK, his son Lawrence (Marion) of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was a generous and caring person. He drove thousands of miles as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society while he lived in Sacramento, CA which was his home from 1952 to 1999. Joe was an excellent dancer and loved music. He continued to be generous and helpful during his stay at Avonlea Villa. A resident of Avonlea Villa since June 28, 1999, he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, fellow residents and staff at the Villa. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Bield Cemetery, Bield, MB. In living memory of Joseph, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. LOU PASSMORE
It is with deep sadness Lou’s family announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born April 7, 1927 and passed away July 18, 2002 after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband, Lloyd, parents, Bill and Helen Bell and her sister, Helen Wiste. Lou is survived by her five children: Sandy (Errol) Langford, Jim (Roberta) Passmore, Bob (Arlene) Passmore, Cathy (Helmut) Denkert and Doug Passmore; fourteen grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: Bill, Ray and Bob (Phil) Bell – all of B.C., as well as several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. As everyone who knew her knows, her love of people and her sometimes maddening zest for life endeared her to all who crossed her path. She was a special lady whose boundless energy and friendliness will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening (7-9p.m.) at the Funeral Home. IAN DONALD GRANT
IAN DONALD GRANT, age 57, of Moose Jaw, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Union Hospital. Born December 16, 1944 in Glasgow, Scotland, Ian immigrated with his family to Toronto, Canada in 1956. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1961 and served in Quebec, Germany, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, retiring to Moose Jaw in 1991. During his second posting to Moose Jaw, Ian married his loving wife, Sharon Stephanson in 1968. Ian had been a Legion member for 21 years and volunteered with the Legion in publishing and various projects. Predeceased by his father, John in 1971 and mother, Elizabeth (Lowson) Grant in 1991. Ian will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon; daughters: Stephanie (Doug); Heather (John) and granddaughter, Cheyenne; Kimberley (Darren) and granddaughter, Jade; his sister, Carol-Ann (Richard) and nephews: Grant, Scott and Micheal, aunt, Ann Esson as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Moose Jaw Branch #59. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening (7-9p.m.) at the Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and final memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later date. THOMAS BOOTHMAN
MR. THOMAS (TOM) ALLAN BOOTHMAN of Moose Jaw, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the age of 65 years. He was born November 30, 1935 in Briercrest. In 1966, Tom went to work for the PFRA, employed in Moose Jaw and Swift Current. He took early retirement in 1991 and ran his own business, TAB Enterprises until 1999. Tom’s memory will live on in the beautiful carpentry work he crafted with pride. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Dorothy; his five brothers: Jack, Brian, Ted, Jim and Larry; three sisters: Daisy, Ruby and Hazel and brother-in-law, Clarence Horsnall. Tom will be forever missed by his wife, Donna of Moose Jaw; two daughters: Tami (Ivan) of Moose Jaw and Lori of Moose Jaw, son, Greg of Regina and his three grandchildren, Chris and Stephanie Calfas and London Boothman. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his sisters: Wilda of Moose Jaw and Doreen (Ray) of British Columbia; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Lil and Lois all of Moose Jaw, Bernice of Regina and Marlene Horsnall of Cranbrook; brothers-in-law: Ron (Sally) Horsnall and Wayne (Doreen) Horsnall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jared Milton Russell Murray “Porkchop” of Moose Jaw, Sask., born November 22, 1982 in Saskatoon, Sask., passed away suddenly on August 31, 2002 at the age of 19 years. With determination, Jared graduated from Central Collegiate at 17 in June 2000. He enjoyed his job as a labourer at DJ’s RV Centre and had plans to attend nursing school and was excited for this next step. Jared was well known for his house parties resulting in pylons on the roof, his pool parties, his zest for life and his good heart. Predeceased by Grandpa Russell Murray, Jared will be sadly missed by his parents, Perry and Darlene; brothers: Justin (Gina) and Trevin; his little sister, Tara; grandparents, Ed and Jeanette Finch and Dolly Murray; great-grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Carey; great-great- grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Chase; aunts and uncles: Linda (Al), Ed (Candace), Mary, Cindy, Percy (Jill), and numerous cousins; special friend, Jolene Wright and the rest of the gang… to numerous to mention. A Celebration of Jared’s Life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. CAROLINE ORTMAN
On Sunday, October 13, 2002, Caroline Ortman of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Regina on January 3, 1914, she was the second oldest in a family of eleven children. In 1938 she married Jake and together they farmed in the Tuxford area with their three children. Caroline’s greatest loves were her family, her crafts, and her gardens. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Predeceased by her parents, one sister, and five brothers, she will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, Jake; daughters: Marilyn (Murray) Ager; Caroll (Daryl) Doig; and Linda (Elton) Leugner; six grandchildren: Gaylene, Todd, Michelle, Michael, Jolene, and Lisa; eleven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
