It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Husband and Father, Morris was surrounded by his family when he passed into the arms of His Lord Jesus Christ. Morris was deeply loved and respected by many friends, neighbours and co-workers. Some of Morris’ happiest times were spent with family, serving the public as Mayor of Mossbank and serving His Lord Jesus through the Lutheran Church. Morris will be forever missed by his wife Edna of 52 years; sons: Terrance (Wendy) and Richard ( Beverly ); family members and friends. A Celebration of Morris’ Life will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 15 Paul Drive & 9th Ave., Moose Jaw at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2002. Reverend John Kreutzwieser will officiate. Lunch and fellowship will follow. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Mossbank Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Sunday evening 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2. JAMES MOORE
JAMES REGINALD (JIM) MOORE of Central Butte, Saskatchewan, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2002 at the age of 91 years. Jim was born in Moose Jaw on August 8, 1910 and received his education there. In 1935, he married Ivy Ott and ranched in the Valjean area until 1968 when they moved to the Central Butte area to farm, later retiring to town in 1978 where he has since resided.. In the past years, Jim had served on the Central Butte & District Agriculture Society Board; as councilor for the R.M. of Chaplin; was involved for many years in 4-H; was a member of the Masonic Lodge and for numerous years threshed with his case outfit at the Sukanen Ship Threshing Bee. He took great pride in his Angus cattle. He was a very loving and caring husband, dad and grandpa and loved having people around him. Jim enjoyed having his “coffee buddies” stopping in for morning coffee or tea and “shooting the breeze”. Predeceased by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Moore; a son in infancy; oldest daughter, Margaret Sentes in 1983; his wife, Ivy in 1985 and son-in-law, Lloyd Nelson in 1993. Jim is survived by two daughters: Jean (Dennis) Nelson and Pat Nelson; son-in-law, Andrew (Marie) Sentes; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a niece, Lois Mast. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Wendy Gibson will officiate with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials for the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village and Museum would be greatly appreciated. WILLIAM J. "BILL" MONTGOMERIE
It is with great sadness that the family of WILLIAM J. (BILL) MONTGOMERIE announces his passing after a brave fight with a lengthy illness on February 3, 2002, at the age of 51 years. Bill is predeceased by his mother, Janet Montgomerie. He leaves behind his daughter, Kaila, his father, John Montgomerie, his sister Mari Lynn Buchholz, her husband, Warren and his niece, Delta, nephew, Roland, his uncle, Archie Hodgson and good friends, Ken Koshman, Di and Don Shaw, Doug Staples, Len Partridge, Ken Crantson and too many Good People to mention, but they are in our hearts today. Bill was born November 12, 1950 in Regina and grew up in Moose Jaw most of his life. He was a very well known person and friend to everyone who met him. Once you were his friend, you knew you had a friend for life. His generous spirit and love of life will be missed by all who knew him. Bill was self employed in Satellite T.V. for the last twenty years and his travels took him all over the province. His greatest enjoyment was being with his friends and everyone knew that they were welcome to his place anytime. At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. For those so wishing, memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. MARY KIRK
MRS. MARY KIRK (nee Swihart) formerly of Marquis, Saskatchewan, passed away at Providence Place, Moose Jaw on Sunday, January 20, 2002 at the age of 81 years. Born at Vidora, Saskatchewan in 1920, Mary moved to the Assiniboia area in the 1950’s and on to the Moose Jaw area in about 1970, and has resided at Providence Place for the past three years. Predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred Harvey in August 1975 and her second husband Roy Kirk in 1998. Mary is survived by several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place at the family plot, Sunset Cemetery. DALE HUTCHINSON
DALE RUSSEL HUTCHINSON, born September 13, 1953 in Moose Jaw, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 4, 2002 at the age of 48 years. Dale was in the Air Force for three years and was a semi driver for twenty-five years. He is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Wanda, daughter, Trista and son, Troy – all of Moose Jaw; two brothers, Don (Brenda) of Moose Jaw and Dwayne (Chris) of Saskatoon; Dale’s parents, Clarence and Lois, father and mother-in-law, Bert and Terry Servis of Watrous, his sister-in-law, Brenda (Russ) of Nanaimo as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening, (7-9 p.m.) at the Funeral Home. EDNA MAY GILBERT
27 March 1917 – 26 July 2002
It is with great sadness that we announce Mum’s passing. Born to Albert and Ethel Thoroughgood in the Baildon district, where she was raised and went to school. She married Gerald Gilbert of the Camlachie district where they farmed and raised their family. After Gerald’s passing, Edna moved to Moose Jaw. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Gerald; brothers, Joe and Norman; and sisters, Mary, Alice and Fonda. She is survived by her family: Bryan (Sharon); Del (Keith); Pat (Murray); Lin (Jen); twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Myrtle, Dora, and Gertie; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 3:30 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. DAVID DOIG
DAVID JAMES DOIG, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2002 with his sons Larry and Les at his side. David was born February 25, 1927 in the Parkbeg district, attended school in Parkbeg, married Dorothy Freeman of the Edgehill district in 1947 and enjoyed farming all his life on the family farm just a half mile south of Parkbeg. He enjoyed all aspects of farming, raising cattle, growing grain, and was an active participant in community and church life. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy in 1998; his sister, May Lawson; his brother, Archie; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Forrest and Lillian Wharren. David leaves to mourn his sons: Larry (Rhona) of Golden Prairie and Les (Ellen) of Parkbeg; his grandchildren: Camille, Ryan and Marnie, Marshall, Houston, Tanner, Rosalyn and Phil, Janine, Alison and David and Brad; his sister, Grace Bickford of Regina; sister-in-law, Daisy Doig of Moose Jaw and brother-in-law, Jim Lawson of Moose Jaw; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his many dear friends who enjoyed his company and shared with him a card game or two, a rodeo event, a twirl around the dance floor, a game of shuffleboard or just a cup of coffee. We wish to say a special thank you to the staff at Extendicare for their compassionate care, and to all those whose visits to Dave gave him comfort during his illness.
