FRANK ELMER COLE of the Parkbeg district and more recently of Extendicare, Moose Jaw left the world on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the age of 82. Born to William and Annie Cole at the family farm in Parkbeg, Frank was predeceased by his sisters: Ethel, Hilda, Doris and Gertie and his brothers: Bill and Alvie. Frank will be sadly missed by his sisters: Mabel Guy and her family, and Laura Rewerts and her family, as well as several nieces and nephews, and Frank’s room mate and friend, Willy Wilson Waye. Uncle Frank had many friends at Extendicare including Nixon, his little dog. Frank’s entire life had been spent farming in the Parkbeg district with a great appreciation for the quiet life. He enjoyed old time music at the dances in town hall, Fowl suppers or any gatherings with family and friends. But, especially looked forward to Christmas and going out of his way making sure each and every one of the children had a special gift. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mortlach Cemetery. Memorials to the Extendicare Children’s Christmas Party Fund, c/o Donna Bruce, 1151 Coteau St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 5G5 would be gratefully accepted. HELEN HEIDT
HEIDT (COONS) (NEE: YURKOSKI) Helen Heidt of Herbert, Saskatchewan passed away in the arms of her loving husband, George on March 5th, 2005. She was born on July 30, 1931 in Round Hill, Alberta and the family later moved to Camrose, Alberta. In 1956 Helen moved to Moose Jaw where she raised her family and enjoyed employment at the Ambassador Cafe and Over's Card House. In 1981 she moved to Regina where she and George resided until 1995. Their retirement years were divided between two homes, one in Herbert and their prized cabin near Simmie, Saskatchewan. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Felum and Louise, brother, Stan, her first husband, Ken and numerous other relatives. She is loved and survived by her husband, George; children: Leslie, Ken (Cathy), Louisa, Denise (Bob) and Michelle (Richard); step-children: Greg, Brian, Leslie, Mike (Margaret) and Michelle (Carl); siblings: Norbert (Leona), Nora, Andy (Audrey) and brothers-in-law: Val (Billie), Clem (Birgitta), Dan (Barb), Steve (Maryellen), Leo (Patti), Al (Charlotte) and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan Street, Moose Jaw with visitation to precede at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Herbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Herbert-Morse Hospital, Herbert, Sask., SOH 2AO would be greatly appreciated. ELMER HUGHES
Robert Elmer Hughes passed away peacefully at Providence Place on January 2, 2003. Elmer was born at Chaplin, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1919. He received his education in the Chaplin district. Elmer married Addie Donnelly on January 12, 1943 and they worked the family farm for the next thirty years while raising three sons. He was a very community minded person. Elmer served on the Municipal Council for 21 years, 5 years as Reeve. He was active with the Chaplin Lions Club, Wheat Pool Committee and other organizations. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Saskatchewan Minerals and Moose Jaw Credit Union for several years. Elmer was a long time active supporter of the C.C.F. and N.D.P. organizations. While at Chaplin he was very involved in coaching and refereeing hockey. He was an ardent fan of the former Moose Jaw Canucks and the present Warriors. He served on the Canuck Executive for a few years. In 1973 he moved to Moose Jaw and was employed by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation in Regina as Administrator of the Indian and Metis Housing Program, a position he held until his retirement in 1984. Elmer remained active in the community in retirement while enjoying playing snooker and golfing with friends. He was a member of Zion United Church. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Griffith and Alice, sisters Ruby Silvester and Marie Williamson. He is survived by his loving wife, Addie; sons: Gerald (Dorothy) and their sons, Cory and Brent; Robert (Margaret) and family; and Daniel; brother, Norman (Marion) of Sarnia, Ont.; sister, Mae (Bill) Burroughs of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wish to thank the staff of Providence Place for their loving care. A Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday January 6, 2003 at 3:30 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the Chaplin Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Chaplin Cemetery Fund, or the charity of choice, would be appreciated. ROSE CORDICK
It is with sadness that the family of Rose Cordick, age 76, of Moose Jaw, announces her passing on September 28, 2006. Rose was born on the family farm near Keystown, SK in 1930. She married George Cordick on July 27, 1949. Rose followed George with the Pool Elevator to Val Jean, Aquadell, and Halvorgate where they resided until retiring to Moose Jaw in 1991. Rose was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family deeply, and also enjoyed horses, music, dancing, playing cards, her garden and her dogs. Rose was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, as well as active in both curling and bowling in her younger years. She could always be counted on to help with any community event. Rose is predeceased by her son Gary in 1954, husband George in 2001, her parents Isabella and Willard Brooks, and brothers, Clarence, Ben and Charlie. She leaves to mourn three children: Howard (Kathie), Deb (Al) Bennett and Rod (Mary Anne); special grandchildren: Terry, Crissie, Levi, Crystal, Jason, and Gary; as well as special great-grandchildren: Adeena and Dylan; sisters, Olive and Jean; brothers, Harvey, Gordon and Barry; and brother-in-law, Stanley Cordick. She also leaves to mourn her friend and companion, her little dog Candy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In keeping with Rose’s wishes, there will be a private family graveside service at Rosedale Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W. IRIS MURRAY
Our beloved mother, Iris Murray, slipped peacefully away on February 10, 2004. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Michael in September 1996; her parents, Daniel Pratt and Alice Suzanna Difley; brothers, Otis and Daniel; and sisters, Sadie and Lillian. Iris is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Charles) Greenwood and Pat (Ivar) Ueland; three sisters, Edith, Doris and Olis; as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Iris, never ceased to be amazed by her energy and her accomplishments. She was a ceramist, seamstress, decorator, gardener, quilter, birdwatcher, animal lover, and she and Mike were tireless in their efforts for the Cub and Scout movement, for which they received the Governor General’s Medal for 25 years of service. She will be sorely missed by all of us who knew her. A Celebration of Iris’ life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. JOYCE THOMSON
JOYCE O. THOMSON (nee Davidson). It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and sister on Thursday, March 6, 2003, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 1, 1933 in Moose Jaw. Joyce attended Coburg School in the Moose Jaw District. In her early years, Joyce was involved in homemaking and other farm related duties with many families in the Moose Jaw rural areas. In the late sixties she met and married Ron and began her life as a devoted wife and later a loving mother to her daughter, Brenda. Ron and Joyce have shared thirty-two great years together. During the past few years Joyce has enjoyed working with seniors, volunteering with the local Eagles Club #3395, and sharing time with her many friends. Joyce was predeceased by her father Carl C. Davidson and her mother, Gertrude (Rogers) Davidson. Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron J. Thomson, daughter, Brenda (Duane Gale) of Didsbury, AB; step-children: Linda (Thomson) Bennett of Esterhazy, SK, and Rhonda (Thomson) Boyko of Raymore, SK; sisters: Rita Merritt of Waldeck, SK, Ruth Trotter of Medicine Hat, AB; brothers: Bill of Lethbridge, AB, Ralph (Linda) of Sherwood Park, AB, Don, Roy and Ray – all of Moose Jaw, nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She is also lovingly remembered by her aunts: Edith Crispen of Chilliwack, BC, Florence (Art) Leippi of Regina, SK and uncle Harry (Anne) Rogers. DOUGLAS ROSZELL
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother and uncle, Douglas Roszell. He passed away in Moose Jaw Union Hospital on January 10, 2010. Born November 23, 1928 to Nancy and Clifford Roszell, Doug lived his entire life on the family farm in the Blue Hill/Briercrest district. In addition to his love of farming, Doug enjoyed attending antique auto and tractor shows and local history museums. Doug always valued the time spent with the family. He will be dearly missed by his sister Joan (Cec) Day, niece Denise (Daren) Patterson and nephews Stuart (Terry) Day and Kevin (Erin) Day. He also leaves behind five great-nieces: Brittany, Breanne, Elizabeth, Jenna, and Emily and five great-nephews: Raymond, Ian, Alex, Adam, and Douglas, who all loved spending time with their Uncle Doug on the farm. He was predeceased by his parents, Nancy and Clifford Roszell. A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, on Saturday January 16, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
