Blanche (Larson) Tremain, passed away suddenly at home on March 7, 2003 at the age of 83 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Orval; brother, Clifford; and sister, Ruby, Blanche leaves behind her sisters, Violet (Robert) Newton; and Olive (Glenn) Moen; daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Gordon Jeffery; as well as her son, Garry and daughter-in-law, Mary. Blanche was proud of her grandchildren: Boyd and Marti Jeffery, Tara, Jennifer and Matthew; great-granddaughter, Joslyn; and great-grandson, Deagan. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends. Blanche attended school in Moose Jaw and taught until she married Orval Tremain of Tilney in 1943. They farmed in the Briercrest district until retiring to the Village in 1973, where they lived out their lives. Blanche will be missed by all who knew her. An Evening Visitation will take place at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from 7 – 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday March 12, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Karen Pearce will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot, Blue Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1, would be appreciated. ROSE DICKSON
ROSE DICKSON, of Moose Jaw, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Avonlea Villa, Avonlea, Saskatchewan. Rose was born January 18, 1909 in Durham, England. She immigrated to Canada as a young girl with her parents. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, sister, Lily Morgan and brother, Jack Clifford. Rose is survived by nieces: Margaret Rose Patrick (Dave) of Stonewall, Mary Lou Didkowski (Stan) of Winnipeg and Linda Clifford Dashney (Ralph) of Ottawa, sister-in-law, Bernice Clifford of Wilkie, Sask.; nephews, Mike and Brad; her late husband’s two nieces and nephews and close friend, Miriam Turnball. Rose was a member of the St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed lawn bowling for many years and traveling – spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona with Bea and Linda. She was an avid baseball fan - she and Jim enjoyed attending pro baseball games in Chicago and Milwaukee, to name a few. In later years she became an avid fan of Moose Jaw ball teams. Following Rose’ request, cremation has taken place. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. Special thank you to the staff of Avonlea Villa for their compassionate care and to Miriam Turnball for her faithful visits. MABEL RACH
MABEL JOYCE RACH of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, September 2, 2007. Predeceased by her parents and a sister, Mabel will be sadly missed by her sons: Danny (Sandra) and Dale (Gloria); grandchildren: Sean and Sarah, her siblings: Lillian, Gordon, twin brother, Raymond, and Gerald, as well as many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mabel’s request, a private family graveside service will take place. Margaret Elizabeth McKay (Shepherd)
This loving and caring mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully January 13, 2004, in Moose Jaw, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born January 26, 1922, she has resided in Moose Jaw since 1942. She was married to Gord McKay in 1946, until his death in 1984. Marg was active in the business community and an energetic member, with her husband Gord, of the Lynbrook Golf Club. Marg loved to sing in the choir at Grandview United Church and strongly supported the congregation through her involvement in U.C.W. Her hobbies included reading, crosswords, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Marg was predeceased by her brother Elger and is survived by her sister Sylvia Gow of Moose Jaw; son Bill and wife Janet from Nanaimo, BC; son Paul and wife Brenda from Fort McMurray AB. She leaves her strong sense of loving and humanity as a legacy to her grandchildren Michael (Tracey); Patti (Tony); and Darren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare, for all the wonderful care and special attention that was lovingly given to Marg. FREDERICK G. HUDSON
Frederick George Hudson passed away at Extendicare in Moose Jaw, Sask. on March 4, 2003. Fred was born in Moose Jaw on October 17, 1921 and was employed at the Gulf Oil Refinery until his retirement. Fred was an avid gardener and woodworker. Fred was predeceased by son Bill and daughter Linda. He will be missed by sons Gerry (Judy) of Moose Jaw, Jim (Val) of Regina, daughter-in-law Glenda Loustel of Moose Jaw and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In keeping with family wishes there will be no funeral service. In living memory of Fred a tree will be planted at Wakamow by W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Home. GLENN PETERSON
Glenn Ernest Peterson, recently of Providence Place, Moose Jaw, passed away January 11, 2009. Glenn was born on the family farm at Cardross on May 26, 1926 and resided there until 2007 when he moved to Assiniboia. He was active in many community and provincial organizations, some of which included; Saskatchewan Flying Farmers Association, Saskatchewan Wildlife Association, Assiniboia Masonic Lodge, and the Verwood Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Dad was passionate about his friends, his farm, and his family, most of all. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Gladys; his loving wife of 49 years, Edith; his daughter, Marlene; brothers, Cecil and Alvin; and his sister, Norma. Glenn is survived by his loving companion Norma Taylor; his daughters, Linda (Marshall) Simons, Glennys Gamracy, Shawna (Raymond) Toews; son-in-law, Dennis Struble; and their children: Shannan (Vaughn), Darrell (Shona), Darren (Shannon), Kari (Evan), Meghann (Adam), Scarlett (Phillip), Brianne (Nathan), Allan (Lyndsey), Francesca (David), Blair; great-grandchildren: Kelly, Dallas, Cody, Taylor, Dylan, Nikoli, Eli, Amelia, Madeline, Rylan, Kellyn, Natalie, Tyco, and Tatum; as well as his brother, Clarence (Joan); sisters-in-law, Alice and Elsie; and brother-in-law, Harold. Glenn also enjoyed spending time with members of his extended family, including Karry (Brenda), Brent (Denneen), Lynn (Tracy), Wade, Marcus (Sonya) and their families. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Extendicare - Moose Jaw, GARU, and St. Anthony’s Wing Providence Place, Doctors Rininsland, Glaeske, Dautremont and Luhning. The Service to Celebrate Glenn’s life will be held at Minto United Church 1036 Seventh Ave., NW., Moose Jaw on Friday January 16, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shriner’s Patient Travel Fund, c/o 1767 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, S6J 1L6, would be appreciated. WINNIE McVETY
WINNIFRED McVETY (formerly Windrem) of Moose Jaw, passed away October 29, 2003. “Winnie” was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1912 and moved with her parents Samuel and Florence Horton to Briercrest in 1919. In 1935 she married Cecil Windrem in Briercrest and they operated the Imperial Oil and John Deer Centre, later farming in the area. In 1962, after Cecil’s passing, Winnie worked in retail sales in Calgary and Regina. At retirement in 1974, Winnie received a 10 year Award of Merit from the Regina Hearing Aid Centre. Throughout the years living in Briercrest and Regina, Winnie was active in the United Church and was a life member of the United Church Women’s Association. Winnie was a member of the Regina Seniors Association and was active bowling, playing cards and dancing. In 1980 Winnie married Albert McVety. They lived in Regina and visited in Canada, Japan and the United States. After Albert’s passing in 1986, Winnie kept her own home, walked every day, enjoyed needlework and baking until moving to personal care in 1998. Though the past five years have been challenging, Winnie always kept her faith and was very grateful and loving to her caregivers and family. Winnie is survived by her brother, Harold (Pauline) Horton; sister, Ruby (George) Heath; Orville Windrem, son of Cecil (Mildred) Windrem; son, Ronald (Judy) Windrem; daughter, Audrey Spicer; Albert (Violet) McVety’s daughters: Shirley (Russ) Gregory and Marilyn (Jim) Winterton; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Following cremation, there will be a private service. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Those so wishing may make a contribution to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3 in Winnie’s memory.
