The family of Rosie Messner is saddened to announce her passing on October 16, 2009 at Extendicare, Moose Jaw. Rosie lost a courageous battle with cancer with her loved ones by her side. Rosie was predeceased by her husband, Jacob in 2005, father Frank Morhart, brothers Zack and Frank. She is survived by her eight children: Harvey (Sandra) - Moose Jaw, Marvin - Regina, Richard - Regina, Wayne (Joan) - Saskatoon, Laverne (Donna) - Spring Valley, Jackie (Kelly) Baran - Regina, Valerie (Les) Schick - Spring Valley, Gaileen (Kevin) McLaren - Boharm, 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her mother, Anne Oberderfer - Moose Jaw, brothers, Seigmund - Lanigan, Anton (Mary) - Leroy, John (Muriel) - Moose Jaw, sisters, Regina (Frank) Tress - Moose Jaw, Anne Tarr - Portage La Prairie, Marie (Daryl) Williams - Saskatoon, nephews and nieces. Rosie was born on November 27, 1931 at the family homestead in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan. She received her education at Artesian School and married her sweetheart, Jacob Messner of Bayard in 1949. They farmed at Bayard until 1953 then purchased and moved to the Galilee farm, where they raised their eight children. They retired from farming and moved to Moose Jaw in 1990. Rosie enjoyed being a homemaker with her large garden and excellent cooking abilities. She always had a large meal ready for anybody at anytime. Rosie and Jacob enjoyed travelling - Europe, the Maritimes, many bus trips and their snowbird winters to Arizona. They also enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with family and friends. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Neal Osiowy officiating. Prayers will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rosie's name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Rosie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
EVA BIERWIACZONEK
Eva Bierwiaczonek passed away at Extendicare Moose Jaw on Wednesday May 12, 2010 at the age of 98 years. Eva was born in West Ukraine on March 28, 1912. She is survived by her son, John of Calgary. The Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery on Tuesday May 18, 2010 at 11:00 am. Father Lewis Kim Nguyen will officiate. In living memory of Eva, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
George Goethals
George Goethals of Moose Jaw, formerly of the Imperial/Davidson area, passed away July 4, 2011 at the age of 88. George was born June 6, 1923 to Jules and Irma Goethals. He was born and raised in the Davidson area. He took over the family farm in 1962. He also was an implement salesman for Smith Roles in Saskatoon. On November 25, 1952 he married Irene Schnurr, and they had three children, Julian George born in 1954, Kenneth Henry in 1957, and Darlene Beatrice in 1965. George & Irene built a new house in Davidson in 1986 and sold the farm in 1991. In 2008, George retired to Moose Jaw and lived with his daughter Darlene. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, travelling, and spending time with his family and friends. Predeceased by his wife Irene, sons George and Kenneth, and sister Mary Remmington, George will be sadly missed by his daughter Darlene; daughter-in-law Deb (Jim Fincaryk); grandchildren Theo Goethals and Jorde Goethals (Jodi McMillan); sister Sally O’Brodovitch, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday July 9, 2011 at 11:00 am. Father Rick Krofchek will officiate. Interment will take place at the Imperial Cemetery at a later date. MARY BAIGENT
Mary Baigent (nee Folk) of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 with family and friends at her side. Mary was born January 13, 1918 in Billium, SK. She moved to Regina, SK in 1944 and worked at the Rainbow Laundry. She met and married Donald Baigent in 1951 and they moved to Moose Jaw. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She spent her life enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved playing cards with her neighbours. A favorite pastime was sitting with a cup of tea and doing a search a word or piecing together a puzzle. Her door was always open to family and friends, the welcome mat was out, coffee was on and lunch was on the table. Mary was a loving, kind woman who touched us all. Left to cherish Mary's memory is her loving family: son Howard (Gail) Baigent; daughters Pauline (Brian) Yamniuk, Gladys (Brian) Therens, Janice Baigent (Okechukwu); grandchildren Tracey (Wes) Kornelson, Laurel Yamniuk, Chad (Vanessa) Baigent, Cory (Pam) Yamniuk, Ryan Therens, Krista (Cory) Olafson, Alia Aluma-Baigent, Akia Aluma-Baigent; great-grandchildren Brittany, Derrian, Kolton, Abby, Kurtis, Madison, Dylan, Tristan, Destiny, Kyle, Phoenix and Aspen; sister Anne (Anselm) Beler; sister-in-law Antoinette Folk; her extended family Ken (Gloria) Dean, Dianne Munroe, Arlin Aspinal, Ponziano Aluma, Ellen Whitcroft, Mark (Jackie) Whitcroft, Hannah Whitcroft and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Mary is predeceased by her husband Donald (1986); son Ronald (1972); parents Mathias and Margaret Folk; brothers Mathias, Paul, Tony, Martin and Tommy; sisters Barbara, Madalena, Helen, Veronica and Theresa. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan St. Father Carlos Jimenez will preside. The family invites you to the hall for fellowship and lunch. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Our Lady. It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our father. He leaves to mourn his children Alvena (Lorne) Cooper, Elroy (Myrna) Enns, Raymond (Kathleen) Enns, Eleanor (Stew) Shepherdson, Karen (Phil) Fullerton, Connie (Dan) Boehr, Gerald (Linda) Enns, Lenita (Ron) Gutiw, and Rhonda Enns, twenty-eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister Mary Andres, brothers Henry (Luella), Peter (Paz), and numerous close relatives. John was predeceased by his wife Erika, son Kenneth, his parents, and siblings Jim and Helen. John was born at the family homestead in Tugaske. He farmed and trucked there until they retired to Moose Jaw in 1996. He later moved to Bethany Manor in Saskatoon, where he enjoyed his Mennonite heritage until his passing. Funeral Service will be held at the Alliance Church, (corner of Thatcher Drive and 9th Ave. NW), Moose Jaw, on Sunday July 11, 2010 at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow at the Eyebrow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated. Annie Zabolotney, beloved wife of the late James Zabolotney, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the age of 90 years. Annie leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Melvin James (Eleanor) and Ralph Dean (Janette); grandchildren, Stacey (Bonne), Jayda (Wade), Sasha (Mark), Beverly (Rod), Chanda (Shawn), LeAnn (Scott); great-grandchildren, Anya, Eleandra, Spencer, Ava, Annika, Blake, Grace, Zay, Zayden, Alisa, Xavier and Ryker. She is also survived by her siblings, Lena (Connie) Popescul, Nick (Joyce) Ionel, Alex Ionel and Flora (Lou) Lemay as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Zabolotney; parents, Ispas and Miranda (nee Andrie) Ionel; brothers, John Ionel, Sager Ionel and George Ionel; sisters, Carolina Zarembo and Sarah Reamer. Annie was born in Regina, SK., on June 5, 1921, and raised in the Middle Valley School District. She was baptized Greek Orthodox and in later years attended Ormiston Baptist Church. She always stayed true to her Greek Orthodox history, celebrating and sharing her traditions with her family. Annie married James Zabolotney on March 22, 1942. She dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother to James and her boys. Home life kept her busy as she always ensured there was a home cooked meal for family and friends alike. Whatever she involved herself in, it was always evident that her “special touch” was present! Through her cooking, baking, the house, flowers and the garden, her impeccable taste was present. Annie ensured that she was always looking her best and kept very busy socializing with her many friends (ever the premier host!) She made the most of life, whether enjoying a visit with everyone down at the curling club, taking a Sunday drive or going on an ocean cruise! More than anything, family will always remember how Annie turned every milestone into a memorable occasion. A birth, baptism, confirmation, graduation, birthday, wedding or anniversary...it didn’t matter. Annie ensured that they were all celebrated properly! While she remained ever devoted to her family, she was always very active as a member of the Crane Valley 49’ers, Ormiston Ladies Club and the Baptist Ladies Group. She will be dearly missed. Visitation for family and friends will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, starting one hour prior to Vigil Prayers and on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, starting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. The Vigil Prayers will be recited at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Cosmin Sico Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8. ROY DELBECK
Roy Henry Delbeck of Moose Jaw passed away January 27, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Born June 19, 1922 at Edmonton, Alberta, Roy came to Moose Jaw as a child and attended Empire and the Technical School. Roy began working with the CPR in 1940 on the B & B.Gang. He joined the Army in 1942 and went to Normandy, France with the Second Battalion R.C.E. from Toronto, later coming home with the 14 Field Company from Regina, SK. He then returned to the CPR in 1946 and he worked as a carman, retiring in 1984. Predeceased by his sister Yvonne Cork, and brother Lloyd. He is survived by his wife Edna - Providence Place; son Ron (Gail) - Langham, SK and granddaughter Christina - Moose Jaw, SK; sister-in-law Jannie and her son Herman - BC; Ednas family: Gerald Johnson - Moose Jaw, Wilf (Dorothy) Longmore - Regina, Evelyn (Joe) Lang - Saskatoon, Randy (Mona-Maria) Steinhauer - McTaggart, SK, and Joan Steinhauer - Moose Jaw; and also several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday February 4, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Bob Langdon will officiate. Interment will follow at the Veterans Section, Rosedale Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Marty Martell.
