DOUGLAS CLARK

MR. DOUGLAS CLARK, age 63 of Moose Jaw, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Doug was born and raised in Ontario. He later moved west with his spouse Ellen to be closer to her family. He leaves behind brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, as well as two God-daughters. He also leaves behind his adopted family: mother, Mary Lake; brother Myles Lake (Mary); nephew Joshuwa Lake (Mary), niece Wendy Lake (Chad Vaters) and many other nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. To commemorate Doug’s life, a gathering will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will officiate. For those so wishing, memorials may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Doug, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

NORMA GARDNER

On May 1, 2009, Norma Edith Gardner (nee McCoy) went peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Predeceased by her daughter Jeanne Leipert, four sisters and a brother, Norma will be lovingly remembered by Albert, her husband of 65 years; sons: Gordon (Elaine), Clay (Yvette), son-in-law Brian Leipert (Pauline); and grandchildren: Kathleine (Pat), Katreina, Dave, Lori (Jerry), Erik (Beryl), Tim (Jit), Tammy (Julio), Jamie, Michael, Barb (Darcy), Sandra (Neil), Roxane, Jennifer; and eight special great-grandchildren: sister Eileen (Bob) and numerous nieces and nephews. Norma was born on the homestead at Kincaid, SK., March 25, 1922. The family moved to Camrose, AB, then back to Saskatchewan to Marquis, Keeler, Rowletta, and then settled at Tuxford. Norma attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, receiving her teacher’s diploma. She taught for many years at Wilson and Premier School in the Rowletta district. Norma married Albert Gardner in 1944 and they settled on the farm north of Rowletta, staying there to raise their family until they began wintering in Moose Jaw in 1969. They moved into town year round in 1977, but Albert continued to farm and Norma would join him to cook meals. Norma took an active role in the community, joining the Wilson L.A., the Keeler U.C.W., the Keeler Farm Union, Lake Valley Church and Sunday School, the Civic Centre Committee, Premier School Board, Lake Valley U.C.W., and the Keeler Grandmother’s Club. She was also active with her family taking part in amateur shows, curling, sports days, 4-H, fowl suppers, catering, etc. She was a proud wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very caring and generous lady who gave to numerous charities. She loved to watch her favourite Christian programs, and spent many hours praying for her family and others. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Norma in the final months of her life, Homecare, Union Hospital, Providence Place, Extendicare, Doctors VanHeerden and Sanderson, and special hairdresser Lori. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday May 7, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Allan Buchanan will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials to the Friends of 3B (Cancer Ward), Pasqua Hospital, Regina, would be appreciated. In living memory of Norma, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DARLENE WINDER

DARLENE MARGARET WINDER (MASSON), born January 7, 1941 at Herbert, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, January 16, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Darlene started her career with the Union Hospital at age eighteen in the Housekeeping department. During this time she met Gordon and they were married June 23, 1962 in Moose Jaw, after which followed four children. Darlene continued to work while raising her family eventually moving into the CSR Department where she remained until her retirement in 2005 after 46 years. Darlene was well liked by co-workers, and was lovingly known as “Sarge”. She will always be remembered as a prankster with cameras in hand. Predeceased by her parents, Bill and Jessie Masson; In-laws: Jack and Kathleen Winder; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Left to cherish her memory of over 46 years, her husband Gordon; daughters: Brenda (David) Bennett - Moose Jaw, Marlene (Randy) Pond - Bengough and Cheryl (Darrell) Denet - Moose Jaw, son, Gordon (Robin) Winder - Moose Jaw, fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother, Phillip (Sheri) Masson - Regina, sister-in-law, May Newstead - Moose Jaw, brother-in-law, Curly (Elinor) Andrews - Petawawa, Ont., sister-in-law, Lil Andrews - Edmonton, sister-in-law, Melissa Winder - Regina, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Lana Hawman, Bob and Deanna Reid, Doug and Ilene Reid, Judy Ellis, Jim Fowlie and co-workers at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Special thanks to Marie Ellingson of the Palliative Care Program for all her help and support as well as Dr. Aboo, Dr. Rayson and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic - Regina, and last but not least, to Dr. Magnaye and staff at the Town N' Country Medical Clinic, Moose Jaw. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Darlene, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GERRY FERGUSON

The family of G.N. (Gerry) Ferguson sadly announce his passing on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital at the age of 83 years. Gerry is survived by his wife Joan of Moose Jaw; and by Doris Ferguson of Saskatoon, the mother of his children Sandra (John) Read of Calgary; Judy (Mike Sauter), of Carlyle; and Bruce of Saskatoon. He is also survived by two grandsons Rhett (Kelly) Read of Anchorage, Alaska; and Michael Read (Lindsay Mullaly), of Calgary. Also surviving him are his stepchildren Susan (Marlin) Maas; Brenda Ashworth, and Gail Kittelson, all of Weyburn. "Papa Ger" will also be missed by step-grandchildren Chris Maas (Jessica Wilton); Meaghan Maas; Jennifer Ashworth (Mike Szczecinski); Sydney Ashworth, Karter Ashworth and Dawsen Ashworth all of Weyburn along with two great-grandsons Matthew Read of Anchorage, Alaska and Vladimir Szczecinski of Weyburn. Gerry also leaves to mourn his sister Anne Lambert, Bellingham, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers George, Walter, Arthur and Allan and sister Zada. Gerry was born February 17, 1926 in Sonningdale, SK. He joined the army in 1944 and following discharge worked as a mechanic until he was employed by Beaver Lumber Company in 1952 until 1979. He was store manager in Viscount, Arcola, Carlyle, and Weyburn. After a short time selling National Homes packages, he went to work in the wholesale end of the lumber business until his retirement in 1991, when he took part time employment once again in retail lumber in Fort Qu'Appelle for the next 6 years, after which he retired to Moose Jaw. Gerry was very active in the communities in which he lived, serving on board of trade, Arcola, as town councilor in Carlyle, and received a community service award in Weyburn. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of Anavets. A salesman at heart Gerry won numerous sales achievement awards. He loved music and loved to sing. He sang in Church Choirs as well as Barbershop Quartets, Balcarres Fireside Singers, Legion Singers and Moose Jaw Senior Association choir. He fondly remembered marching down Moose Jaw's Main Street playing drums with the Carlyle Band and later with the Legion Band. November 11th was important to Gerry and we'll remember his enjoyment of the sing-alongs singing with comrades after the Remembrance Services. So please wear a poppy in remembrance of Gerry as "our hearts are filled with sadness for a soldier died today." Known for his love of his dogs, and pride in serving his community and country, it's Gerry's wish that friends so desiring make contributions to the Humane Society or to the Legion Poppy Fund in lieu of flowers. The Celebration of Gerry's Life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday November 7, 2009 at 10:00 am. Della Ferguson will officiate. The In living memory of Gerry, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

MARLENE SMITH
February 19, 1950 – June 20, 2011

Marlene Smith, age 61 of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 20, 2011. She was born, raised, and educated in the Canora area. Marlene received her Nursing degree in Saskatoon and this began a career that lasted for over 40 years. Her children were her passion and a great deal of her time was spent being involved with all of their activities from season to season. She loved walking, being outdoors and enjoying nature. Predeceased by her father, Peter Baron, Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her mother Victoria Baron, husband Rod, children: Jason, Jeffery (Laine Froehlich), and Meagan; two sisters, Alvina (Chuck) Cameron and Beverly (Brian) Wiwchar, niece Cindy (Gary) Cherry, nephews Dan (Barb) Cameron, Justin (Francine) Wiwchar, Dylan (Tiffany) Wiwchar, and Logan Wiwchar, as well as countless other loving relatives. The family would like to thank all of Marlene’s friends, colleagues, the staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, and the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic in Regina. The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave., N.W., Moose Jaw, on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 4:00 pm. Mr. Gary Johnson will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home on Friday evening 7 – 9 pm. ROBERT KEMPF

On April 10 2009, Robert George Kempf passed away peacefully at the age of 95 while sleeping. Predeceased by his first wife Pat (Hunter) and parents Jakob and Katharina, brother Reinhold, sister Katherine and brother-­in-law John Archer. Robert is survived by daughter Ruth (Leonard) and grandsons Richard and David (Joanne) and great-grandsons Dale and Derrick; son Fred (Frances) and grandson Paul; sisters Elsie (Archer), Sarah Rau (Jim); brother Fred; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert can be remembered for his love of farming, horses and raising cattle. In the early years when farming was done with horses, he would obtain the loan of unbroken horses from the Fisher ranch. For the price of breaking these horses to harness he had the use of the animals for a year. As a child he moved with his family from Alberta to the Prelate district. From there he moved to the Coderre district where he eventually farmed for many years. After retiring he lived in several places including Moose Jaw, Vibank and lastly in Regina. Robert married Helen Paidel at the age of 80 and sadly they separated in his 89th year. A sincere thank you to all the staff at the Regina Lutheran Home for the wonderful care they provided. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel in Moose Jaw on Thursday April 16, 2009 at 10:30 am. Reverend Dennis Fingas will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Interment will be made at the Mossbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Robert, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

MAURICE LAFRENIERE

Mr. Maurice Lafreniere, age 87, husband of Eleanor Lafreniere, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday January 7, 2011 at Providence Place in Moose Jaw. A Memorial Mass will be held in the spring. In living memory of Maurice, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
