Lilian Beach of Moose Jaw, passed away December 20, 2010. She was born January 14, 1920 to Irish Banner and James Wilmot in St. Ann, Jamaica. She married John Beach over 55 years ago in Jamaica. Following his death in 1983, she moved to Canada. Lilian is survived by ten children: Delmera Davis - Jamaica, Charles Beach (Minion Bryan) - Florida, Jean (George) Whyte - Moose Jaw, Winston (Junie) Beach - Jamaica, Veda Beach - Jamaica, Lucille (Lester) Gordon - Moose Jaw, Burton Beach - New York City, Janet (Bryan) McBean - Moose Jaw, Annie Beach - Toronto, Leapert Beach - Jamaica; three sisters; thirty-two grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband John, and son Ken, two brothers and two sisters. A Celebration of Lilian's life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. In the New Year, a Funeral Service will be held in St. Ann, Jamaica, with interment to follow at Mile End in the family plot. Memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917 Albert St. , Regina, S4R 2P6, would be appreciated. In living memory of Lilian, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. JOHN JACOB THIELE
On June 20, 2009 John was reunited with God in his eternal home in Heaven. Born in Bayard, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1920, he passed away at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years Bertha in 2003; parents, Zacharias and Katherine, brothers, Otto, Zack and Frank, and sisters, Katie, Caroline, Annie and Mary. John is survived by his son Peter (Kathy) and their child, Madison of Regina, brother Joe ( Elizabeth ), sister-in-law Vina Thiele and sister-in-law Augusta Thiele, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John graduated from the first grade 12 class in Spring Valley in 1937-38. He continued his education with a six-month radio repair course, and in 1941 he joined the RCAF as a radar mechanic. Stationed in southern England for over three years, John maintained the ‘Night Fighter’, radar-tracking equipment. Later on, he changed to navigational radar. After the War, John held a variety of jobs: the Liquor Store in Spring Valley, CKRM, CKCK-TV, Eaton’s and Sears in Regina, CFRA in Flin Flon. John married Bertha Machmer in 1950. In 1956 John and Bertha were blessed with a son, Peter. The family returned to Spring Valley in 1964 where John became the secretary-treasurer of the RM of Terrell and the Village of Spring Valley. John was heavily involved in community organizations: the Oro Lake Park Board, the Artesian School Board, the Spring Valley and District Recreation Board and the Lutheran Church Board. John helped organize the 1980 Homecoming and was instrumental in organizing the Terrell History Book. John retired in 1984 and he and Bertha remained in Spring Valley for a number of years and later they moved to Moose Jaw were they spent their final years together. He and Bertha were able to take many trips together and see many parts of the world and truly enjoyed life together. John loved to read and sing and especially enjoyed conversation with all those he met during his lifetime. The Worship Service to celebrate God’s gift of John’s life will be held on Thursday June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (9th Ave. N.W., ˝ km south of Trans Canada Hwy., Moose Jaw) with Reverend John Kreutzweiser officiating. Interment will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley, Saskatchewan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. LORENE "VERNIS" GREGOR
Vern left the confines of this Earth to be with Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, to join her parents, the late Charles and Gladys Ogle, sister Mavis (Archie) McDonald and brother Lawrence (Elaine) Ogle. Vern is survived by her husband, Slow; daughter, Susan (Dr. Brian Sanderson); son, David (Karri); Susan’s children, Brett, Julie (Rick Struble) and Matthew Bespalko all of Moose Jaw and area; David’s children, Christina and Brock of Bettendorf, Iowa; Julie’s children, Katelynn and William as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Vern “Mum” always went out of her way to say “Hello”. As a Christian and Prayer Warrior she provided her family and all those in need, a kind word and the promise of a prayer in the future. Her life and love of her “home” on the farm planted not just seeds of crops but seeds of Faith. Vern was devoted to the Church; she enjoyed singing, playing her organ, knitting and tatting. For many years Vern enjoyed working for the Army and Navy, and the T. Eaton’s Stores. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:00 am at The First Baptist Church, 1010 Main St. N., Moose Jaw. Pastor Barry Gammie will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale cemetery. A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening at W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw from 7 – 9 pm. For those wishing memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice. CLARK LESLIE FORBES
In deep sadness we announce Clark’s sudden passing on Thursday evening, October 8, 2009 at age 51, 9 days previous to his 52nd birthday. Clark was born at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on October 17, 1957 to parents Veryl and Eva Forbes. Due to his father’s employment with CP Rail he attended school in several centres, and obtained his high school education at Peacock in Moose Jaw. After several years he returned to school with an apprenticeship program in heavy duty mechanics, obtaining his journeyman diploma. Clark was a loving, generous person, very proud of his two sons. He loved nature and was in his element when hiking and camping in the mountains. These times were extra special to his sons. He also enjoyed cooking and creating gourmet ethnic dishes, primarily Asian and East Indian. He was a wonderful son, father, and friend. Clark was predeceased by his father Veryl and brother Craig. He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Jason and Daniel of Saskatoon; mother Eva, brother Jeff, Aunt Helen Haukaas, and several cousins, relatives, friends, and his most special dog Pepper. A private celebration of Clark’s life will be held. God searched the world for a perfect pearl and in his quest found the very best and said – “ Clark, come to Me, I need you by my side to be” Forever missed, forever in our hearts. Glen Joseph Kabanuk finished his courageous battle on earth on Monday May 23, 2011. Now pain free, he, along with his parents Joe and Beatrice are guiding from above. Glen is loved and remembered by: wife Shirley; children: Jamie (Brent), Tyler; Glen’s Grand “Bear”; brothers: Donald (Diane), Robert (Loreen), and Lloyd; sisters: Joan (Dwain), and Joyce; brother-in-law Ted (Lynda); sisters-in-law Donna, and Norma (Howard) and families. A private service was held on Friday May 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Thank you to all who shared in Glen’s life. LEITA ENGELHARDT
A long life lived with grace and dignity ended May 8, 2011 at St. Anthony's, Providence Place. Leita Mary Engelhardt (Staples) was born November 1, 1916 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She was the 10th of twelve children born to Christine and James Staples, pioneers who settled in the Tuxford District. Leita is the last surviving of the Staples siblings. Leita attended Blofield School, Peacock Institute and graduated from Indian Head School where she was living with her oldest sister Florence. Leita served in RCAF from February 25, 1942 until January 4, 1945. It was during this time that she met and married Harold Hanson. Following the war, they moved to Winnipeg and had four children. Leita returned to Moose Jaw in 1950 to raise her four children. For many years she worked at Patterson Motors as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1981. She met and married Norm Engelhardt in 1969. Together, they spent many happy years travelling in their camper, gardening, gourmet cooking and creating beautiful gifts for their family. Mom made beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren and Norm made amazing toys and furniture with his wood lathe. They both became involved with the Cosmo Club playing cards, shuffleboard and singing with the Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers. Sadly, Norm passed away in 1994. Leita is survived by her children: Ron (Heather) Hanson – Sidney, N.S., Alan (Betty-Ann) Hanson – Moose Jaw, Cliff Hanson (Jean Kerr) – Moose Jaw and Sharon (Jack) Ireland – Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Kristy (Doug) Campbell – Asquith, SK, Shayne (Loralee) Ireland – Toronto, Rhonda (Sheldon) MacNeil – Toronto, Laurie (Tony) MacKinnon – Regina, Erin (Cyril) Roach – Halifax, N.S., Heather Hanson – Toronto, Suzanne (Vince) Shivak – Saskatoon, Andrew (Mellisa Pino) Hanson – Regina, Cody (Lindsay) Hanson – Moose Jaw and Sammy and Mickey Kerr – also of Moose Jaw; great-grandchildren: Jared Campbell, Madisen Ireland, Sarah MacKinnon and Laughlin Roach, Xander Shivak, Ella-Jo MacNeil and Ava-Lee Hanson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Muriel Staples and many nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held on May 12, 2011. EVELYN FOWLER
Evelyn Louise Fowler, (nee Zinn), passed away peacefully March 2, 2011 at Grace Hospice in Regina, with her family by her side. Evelyn was born June 15, 1918 in the Moose Jaw district to Edward and Cora Zinn and raised in the Clinton district on the family farm. Evelyn married Ken Fowler February 11, 1941 moving to McCleod, AB where Ken was serving in the RCAF. When Ken went overseas in 1944, Evelyn returned to Moose Jaw to be near family. After the War they lived in Moose Jaw, then moved to live at Buffalo Pound Filtration Plant, where Ken worked until retirement. Again making their home in Moose Jaw for many years where Evelyn made a beautiful, loving home. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, dancing, and loved their many trips to Arizona. She was also a great one for knitting and tatting and gifted family with lovely keepsakes over the years. Evelyn loved her family above all else and her mission in life was to provide a loving home. Her hospitality extended to many good friends over the years who were always welcome. In 1998 Ken and Ev moved to Regina and made many new friends at their condo complex. Together they walked at the Victoria Square Mall and found more friends. October 2010 Evelyn moved into College Park Seniors Residence again finding wonderful new friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Cora and Edward Zinn, brothers Jack, Lyle, Barney and Jim, and son-in-law Donald Cooper. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Ken; daughter Sharron Cooper and grandchildren Dianne (Rob), and Mitch (Mima); daughter Bonnie (Don) Johnston and grandchildren Scott (Marie-France), and great-grandsons Nathan and Connor, and granddaughter Jennifer (Andrew); brothers Doug (Betty) Zinn, Bill (Daisy) Zinn; and many nieces and nephews. The family are most grateful for the loving care Evelyn received from the staff of Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, and her Doctors Williams, Heroux, Alport, Johnson and Klein.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday March 7, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate.
