Donna M. Howell passed away at Carleton Place, Ontario on Friday March 4, 2011 at the age of 79 years. Donna was born in Parkbeg, SK, and her career took her to Moose Jaw, Toronto, Winnipeg and finally to Montreal where she worked for over 30 years in the Canadian National Railways Headquarters. Donna was predeceased by her parents George and Nellie (Wilcox) Howell. She will be sadly missed by her brother Lorne Howell of Edmonton, sister Marcia McCue of Perth, ON and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at the Jones Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, on Thursday May 26, 2011 at 1:00 pm. In living memory of Donna, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
ARTHUR EDWARD HARRISON
Edward Harrison, a longtime resident of Martensville, SK, passed away on June 19, 2010 in Moose Jaw, SK. Edward was born in Shaunavon, SK on August 21, 1941 to George and Mabel Harrison. He grew up and attended school in the area. He worked as a farmhand, then construction for Pioneer Grain before moving to Saskatoon and working in the parking department of the Midtown Plaza. Here he met his wife, Donna and they were married in 1975. They moved to Martensville in 1977 and raised their family there. In 2004, Ed retired and they moved to Alberta where he spent his time looking after his grandson, Matthew. In 2006, they moved to Moose Jaw. The loves of his life were his grandchildren and he wished he could have spent more time with them. Edward is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna, three children, Ronda, Rita and Ryan and three grandchildren, Mathew, Natalie and Caton. He is also survived by his sister Irene Anderson, and brothers, Albert (Myrna) and Sidney Harrison, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In accordance with Ed’s wishes, a private family viewing was held on June 21, 2010, and cremation followed. In living memory of Edward, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
ARNOLD GAMBLE
Arnold Robert Gamble, born in Moose Jaw Petrolia District on March 2, 1929 and passed away peacefully on January 8, 2011 with his family and loved ones by his side. Arnold is predeceased by his parents Walter and Marie Gamble, infant son Gregory; brothers, Lorne, Bert and Don; and sisters Margaret Cowgill and Jeanette Miller. He is survived by his special angel, best friend and loving partner “Miss Polly” Pauline Boisclair; sister Bernice Duke; son Ken; daughters Robbie Gamble and Sharon (Scott) Busse; grandchildren, Casey (Laurelle) Bellows, Kristin Bellows, Noel Busse, Brent Busse, Adam Gamble, and Ashley Gamble; great-grandsons, Bryce Crosbie, Brayden Kozakowski and Bohden Bellows; many nieces, nephews and extended family. A Memorial Celebration will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday January 13, at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Eugene Gordon Gillies
April 28, 1953 – February 3, 2010
Eugene Gordon Gillies aged 56 years, a resident of Extendicare in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed into the Lord’s presence on February 3, 2010. A celebration of his life will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street East in Moose Jaw, on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Nairn Gillies will officiate. Gene was born on April 28, 1953 in Moose Jaw. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Hilda Gillies, his brother Garth, his niece Megan Gillies and his nephew Bryan Swinamer. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Marlene (Gary) Swinamer of Calgary, his brother Tom (Phyllis) of Regina, his brother Jim (June) of Guelph and his sister-in-law Doris Sunde of Moose Jaw, as well as by all his nephews, nieces and cousins who loved this very special man. Gene was a very unique gift to his family. His Down’s syndrome handicap only enhanced the character of his life. His innocent and caring heart gave unconditional love to his family, to his care givers and to all those who knew him. Gene loved music, including singing the old hymns of the faith and he loved singing “O Canada.” He revelled in the joys of Christmas and made the Christmas celebration a great delight. Gene spent 20 years of his life at the Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw, followed by a number of years in the Community Living program. Since 2005, he has been a resident at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. The family wish to extend their special thanks to the staff at Valley View and to the associated personnel at Community Living for all their efforts in helping Gene cope with every aspect of his life. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Extendicare, who have worked hard during his last years to give Gene love, comfort and dignity. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Gene’s name to the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living – Saskatoon. ALLAN KNOKE
Allan Louis Knoke passed away surrounded by family members on August 1, 2009 in Trochu, AB at the age of 87. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret (Line) and his children, Linda Lukovszki - Regina, Marion (Murray Shadlock) - Three Hills, AB, Michael - Calgary, AB and Kathy (Brian Witdouck) - Iron Springs, AB. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pam Thompson, Kelsey and Ashley Thompson, - Regina, Robyn (Dallas Shenner), Malia and Mason Shenner - Regina, Katie (Sheldon Walker), Cody Walker - Milo, AB, Nancy Shadlock - Vancouver, BC and Geni and Kevin Witdouck. Allan is predeceased by his son Murray who died in 1954 at the age of five, and his parents John Martin Henry (H.J.) and Eugenie (Jennie) Knoke, his siblings Jeannette Ireland, Orla Davies, Doris Sanderson Lang and Harold. Allan was born on December 24, 1921. He was raised on his family’s farm north of Mazenod, Saskatchewan. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was assigned as a tail gunner on the Lancaster bomber. He logged over 280 hours from February to April, 1945, proudly serving his country. Allan married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Line on February 2, 1946. They resided on the farm in Mazenod until their retirement to Mossbank, Saskatchewan in 1982. Allan was a hard worker and enjoyed farming. Visitors often commented on his farm and yard; he was particular about keeping the weeds at bay and the garden hoed. He took pride in his farm equipment and could always find a way to fix anything. Allan enjoyed civic service. He served with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge, and the Elks club. He was a municipal councilor with the R.M. of Sutton. He also gave of his time to the Mazenod CO-OP, the Mazenod and Mossbank United Church Boards, the Mossbank School Board, Hospital Board, Library Board and the Mazenod Wheat Pool. Over the years Allan enjoyed traveling. He was fortunate to see many parts of Canada and the United States as well as Jamaica, and Mexico. He was an avid curler throughout his life and during his retirement took up the game of golf. Sadly he lost his eye sight in later years and had to give up many of these pursuits. But Allan never lost his sense of humor and was always ready with a joke or a story. His family will remember them fondly. In 2006, Allan & Margaret moved to Three Hills, Alberta to be closer to family and a year later Allan moved to St. Mary’s Long Term Care unit in Trochu, Alberta where he resided until his passing. His family is grateful for the excellent care given by the compassionate staff. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at Sunset Cemetery in Moose Jaw followed by a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel. Neighbors and friends are welcome to celebrate his life with the family at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Health Care Center, Box 100 Trochu, AB.T0M 2C0. ALVIN ALFRED WAGNER
Alvin Alfred Wagner (Al), husband, father and grandfather passed away August 27, 2010 after a brave and noble battle with cancer. Al was born July 19, 1936 at Coronach, Saskatchewan. Al attended Adler School Division and later Crane Valley High School, and completed high school at Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw. Al met his beloved wife and best friend, Garnet, in Moose Jaw and they were married in October of 1962. He completed his first year of a Bachelors degree in Education at Regina Teachers College in 1966 and taught in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, New Dale School in Queenstown, Alberta, and Barons Consolidated School in Barons, Alberta. Al and Garnet relocated with their young family to Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1971 where Al took a position working for Saskatchewan Health. Swift Current would eventually become their home and Al and Garnet raised their family there. He later retired from Saskatchewan Health in June 1996. Al found his most precious joys in life by spending time with his family and was happiest when he was fishing and camping with his sons and their families. Al is predeceased by his parents Henry Wagner and Olga Schanowski, his brother Ernie Wagner and sister-in-law, Sharon Thompson. Al is survived by his wife of 47 years, Garnet; two sons Brent (Mary) Wagner and Brad (Patti) Wagner both of Regina; grandchildren Alex, Noah, Aaron and Mikayla; brothers Ed Wagner and Karl (Arlene) Wagner and sister Alma (Doug) Roberts; brother-in-law Merlin Thompson, sisters-in-law Gail (Laurence) Berger, Janet (Jack) Fulwiler, Marlys Benson (Brent), Debbie Ann (Marv) Lougheed; numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A private service was held at Sunset Cemetery in Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson officiated. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. BILL BURBANK
William Leslie Burbank passed away Sunday April 10, 2011. He was born in the Boharm district on September 7, 1920. Bill was educated in Saskatchewan, graduating from the University of Saskatchewan in Local Government Administration in 1956. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1942 to 1945. After his discharge he began a long and rewarding career in rural local government (48 years). Bill was the Administrator for the R.M. of Baildon from 1945 to 1950, and the R.M. of Moose Jaw from 1950 to 1980, during which time he was also Administrator of the R.M. of Hillsborough from 1968 – 1990. He was President of the R.M. Administrative Assoc. of Sask. for 4 years and was a director of the Sask. Assoc. of Rural Municipalities. During his career he was a member of many boards and committees. He enjoyed his work and felt that over the many years the rural people were very good to him. Bill loved animals, especially horses and dogs. Predeceased by his parents Peter Mathew and Mary Ann, he is survived by his wife Evelyn, and two daughters Cathy Seed and Barbara (Dean) Tollefson. Friends are invited to join the Family for a Memorial Tea at Jones Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., on Friday April 15, 2011 from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. Private Committal Services will be held at the Family Plot, Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Humane Society, Box 1658, Moose Jaw, S6H 7K7, would be appreciated.
