Stephanie Jean Mintenko-Schofer
October 20, 1950 – April 4, 2009

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Stephanie Jean Mintenko-Schofer on April 4, 2009 after a brief illness. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family and her devoted dog, “Mr.Bogey Schofer” who kept her company especially during her last days at home. Stephanie was a loving, caring and supportive wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who could always be counted on to be there in time of need. Stephanie had a special place in her heart for each one of her grandchildren. She was known to her family and friends as “Petunia" or “Stephie”. Stephanie was noted for being organized, a perfectionist, and always on a mission. She had an adventurous spirit – living and working in many places throughout Canada and the United States. She was an amazing woman of many talents and had a great flair for decorating. She was famous for having pictures on the wall the day after she moved into a new home, even if it meant staying up all night. Steph was the family organizer and the “Little Big Seester”. There have been many family gatherings where we only saw the back of her, because she was either working at the stove or sink in the kitchen. Stephanie was a majorette in the Moose Jaw Band at the age of 13, and continued her love for baton in her later years. She and her best buddy Donna were well known as the “air baton” queens. She was a hard worker and poured her soul into her own venture of “Stephanie’s Gourmet Coffee and More” shop. Predeceased by her father George (1988), brother Mickey (2003), and grandparents W.H. (Bill) and Irene Johnstone, and John and Elizabeth Mintenko, and several aunts and uncles. Steph is survived by her husband Harvey, mother Jean, daughters Lisa (James), and Stesha (Sean); siblings, Doug (Teresa-Marie), Robbyn (Jeff), Lori (Brad), Geri (Mark), Ralph; step-children Sean (Colleen), Travis (Shannon), Richard (Kelly), and Leslie (Mark); twelve grandchildren; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We would like to thank Marie from Home Care for her care and support. At Stephanie’s request, a private family service and gathering will be held to celebrate her life now and forever more. Memorials to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Patient Travel Fund, would be appreciated. In living memory of Stephanie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Ron joined the RCAF in 1954 and retired 28 years later. He was stationed in several continents. Upon retirement Ron and Merle moved to Medicine Hat where he worked as a civil servant for ten years. They then moved back to Moose Jaw to be closer to their family. Ron had a passion for golf, he would golf all through the summer and watch golf all winter while waiting for the snow to melt. He also was an avid baseball fan. In keeping with the family’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those so wishing memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army, 2 Wintergreen Drive S6J 1M9. The family would like to send special thanks to the nurses and aids of the Home Care Staff.
