GAVINA REEKIE

Lifelong Moose Javian Gavina Reekie passed away March 23, 2004 after a short illness. Gavina taught school for many years, served with the business and professional women, dedicated endless hours to Wakamow Valley, as we as raising and showing her beloved Rottweillers. Her honesty and sincere friendship will be deeply missed by those who knew her and her unconditional love will be missed by her canine companion, Anna. As per Gavina's wishes, there will be no funeral, just take a moment to listen to a bird's song or watch an animal wandering free and remember our dear friend. In living memory of Gavina, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

KENNY NIELSEN

Kenneth David Ness Nielsen, passed away September 28, 2008. Kenny is predeceased by his father Mogens Nielsen. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Evelyn Nielsen, siblings, Hazel, Fredell, Eric and Marianne (Raymond), also his nieces and nephews. Kenny was born in Nipawin, SK on February 22, 1956. He became a resident of Valley View Centre at the age of 7. He resided there until the time of his passing and absolutely loved his home! Kenny’s wonderful friends and caregivers would like everyone to know how loving he was and how easy it was to love him in return. The same day he passed away they felt sad and lonely without him. The motto of VVC is Caring (for each other), Relationships (developed at VVC) and Dedication (to one another). It requires a sense of humour to accomplish this and those involved in Kenny’s daily life stressed that a day spent with him never was lacking in humour. A Visitation will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home on Saturday October 4, from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. The Funeral Service will be held at Valley View Centre at 1:30 pm. Pastor John Duerksen will officiate. Following cremation, a private interment will take place in Nipawin at a later date. Memorials to Valley View Centre, Box 1300, Moose Jaw, S6H 4R2, would be greatly appreciated by Kenny’s family. In living memory of Kenny, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DOROTHY PAYSON

DOROTHY ELIZABETH PAYSON passed away peacefully on Saturday March 10, 2007 with several family members lovingly and attentively by her side. Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, she lived all of her life in Moose Jaw. Early in her life, Dorothy developed an active interest in music and later earned a certificate from the Toronto Conservatory of Music. Dorothy had a deep and unremitting love for music; she dedicated most of her life to teaching music. Many will remember her guitar studio. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and willingness to help others unconditionally. Dorothy was a strong and robustly independent spirit with a wonderful disposition and sense of humour. Dorothy leaves a legacy of music students, friends, and profound memories. She is predeceased by her parents George and Mary Semenchuk. Lovingly left to cherish her memories are her children: Allan (Barbara), Barrie, Diane (Merv), Debra (Jim), Darlene (Ralph), and Douglas (Chasidy); grandchildren: Carolyn (Scott), Kimberly (Alim), Michael, Amanda, Bettina, Christina, Brett, Natasha, Chelsea (Bradley), and Kei-ara; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Hannah, Isaiah, Olivia, and Alexandra; sisters: Georgina, Evelyn, Julia, Donna and many other relatives. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will be the Celebrant. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials for the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360–2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6 would be appreciated. In living memory of Dorothy, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JOAN KESSLAR

With sadness we announce the passing of JOAN KESSLAR, age 84, of Fort Qu’Appelle. Joan passed peacefully in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Yorkton, she settled on the farm in Mazenod with her husband Joe who predeceased her in 1978. Joan moved to Fort Qu’Appelle in 1990 where she made several new friends through the Seniors Centre, coffee row and farmers market. Joan will be sadly missed by her three sons: Bob (Fran) of Regina, Dan (Judy) of Moose Jaw and Bill (Lisa) of Saskatoon, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and all who’s life she touched. Her love of knitting, crocheting and sewing was evident in the numerous gifts to family and her active membership in the Fort Qu’Appelle Farmers Market. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 27, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Father Alex Osei C.S.Sp will preside. Prayers will be held Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Mazenod Catholic Cemetery with a come & go tea to follow in the Mazenod Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation 2360 – 2nd Ave., Regina, Saskatchewan, S4R 1A6 would be appreciated. In living memory of Joan, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DEE McLAREN

Dee Alexander McLaren passed away on January 13, 2008 with his family by his side. Dee was born in Moose Jaw on January 31, 1941. He went to school at Clay Hill, Boharm and Peacock. Dee married Wendy in October 1961 and started farming with his father. He later bought a farm of his own which he operated until retiring due to health reasons in 1997. Dee had a love for farming and enjoyed it in all aspects. Moving to Moose Jaw in 1997 his passions turned to gardening, camping, going to Yuma in the winter and playing cards with friends. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Bob and Doreen McLaren, sister Marj, brother-in-law Stan, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarke and Nell Thompson, and brother-in-law Jim Poole. He is survived by and lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Wendy, sons Kevin (Gaileen), Duncan (Laura), Dan (Denyse); grandchildren Dustin, Chelsea, Tyson, Cody, Alyssa, Kellsie, Adrian, Paige, Nick, and Amy; and one great-grandson Colten; brothers, Bob (Phyllis), Bernie (Lynn), Doug (Wendy); sister-in-law Donna Poole and brother-in-law Ron (Liz) Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday January 18, 2008 at 1:30 pm. Pastor John Duerksen will officiate. Private family memorialization will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., S6H 1H3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Dee, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GEORGE GRIGG

George Grigg, of the Moose Jaw district passed away suddenly at the family farm on December 14, 2004 where he was born 79 years ago. He was educated in Moose Jaw and then joined the Navy in WW II. He served on the frigate, HMCS Thetford Mines based out of Londonderry, Ireland, which took him to Gibraltar, the Shetland Islands and Bermuda. His favourite assignment was to be in charge of the captain's motorboat, which he claimed to be the best job in the navy! He returned home, to carry on the family farm that enabled him to pursue his lifelong interest in designing and building machinery. One of his inventions of interest to the community was operating two combines with one tractor. In addition to his love of farming, George was an aircraft engineer qualified to maintain both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. This passion for aircraft took him far afield to the N.W.T. and Northern Saskatchewan. With his Piper Supercub, he provided crop-spraying services in the community. Some of his leisure time with his family included downhill and cross-country skiing, boating, hiking and Sunday church and picnics. He learned to enjoy leisure time, traveling to Mexico, Arizona and Hawaii in the winter. Later in life, George appreciated the slower pace of country living and loved reading and learning about history. Predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Nellie Grigg, and first wife, Karol Sisson, he is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Karlee (Grant), Jeff (June), Robyn (Al), and Cheryl: and his stepdaughter, Sherry (Allan). He has 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Following cremation, a private family memorial service will be held, conducted by Reverend Bill Thompson. Royal Canadian Legion rites will be conducted by Stan Skrill. In living memory of George, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Donations on behalf of George can be made to the Humane Society, or the Salvation Army.

ELISE COULSON

ELISE CATHERINE COULSON (Paysen), aged 95 years, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on October 21, 2003 . Elise was the oldest of eight children born to John and Barbara Paysen on a farm north of Chaplin. Elise attended Luther College in 1924 and graduated with the first graduating class in 1927. In 1930 she graduated from the Regina General Hospital with her Registered Nursing Certificate. On June 20, 1936 she married Boyd Coulson, they had four children. The three girls were born in Moose Jaw and their son was born in Central Butte . Elise nursed in Central Butte for many years, as well as being the Matron of the Hospital for twenty-five years. Elise had many blessings in life. She loved her chosen profession of nursing. She loved people, and especially her family, her children and grandchildren. Elise was a devout Christian; a lady of great strength, common sense and wisdom. She was a great example of accepting everyone for what they were; she was non judgmental. Observing growth in plants, people and animals intrigued her. Gardening and the beauty of a prairie day refreshed her spirit. She is survived by her brother Ed Paysen (Mary); sisters Erna Foster and Martha (Ted) Hoover; daughters Eileen (Richard) Chant, Gretta (Gordon) Smith and Shirley Coulson and son Ernie (Gail) Coulson; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Service of remembrance celebrating the life of Elise will be held at Central Lutheran Church, 27 Hochelaga St. W., Moose Jaw on Monday, October 27, 2003 at 1p.m. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the family plot, Central Butte Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Memorials for the Central Lutheran Church would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Elise a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
