ALLAN BURKE
ALLAN BURKE, age 87 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away quietly at the Union Hospital with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Allan leaves to mourn, his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Jerrine; sons Brent (Edith) Burke and David (Caroline) Burke; daughter Julie (Floyd) Akre; eight grandchildren: Cindy, Johnny, Chris, Murray, Dwane, Jennifer, Carri and Curtis; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Trudy (Ron) Bedford and Elma Rollo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Jim Low will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Moose Jaw Branch #59. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Allan’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, Branch #59, c/o 268 High Street West, Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8. CHARLES LONG
Charles Arthur Long of Mortlach, Saskatchewan passed into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 21, 2003. He was surrounded by the loving presence of his wife, Marg and his children. Charles was born July 19, 1925 in the Edgehill District, south of Parkbeg to a ranching family. In 1945, as a very young man, Charles joined the Canadian Army as a guardsman serving overseas for two years. On the day of his passing, Dad’s service was recognized when he received a “Thank-you Canada” anniversary medal for being one of the Canadian soldiers liberating the Netherlands. Dad’s natural mechanical ability and his experience as a mechanic in the Army, in his family’s Garage business, and in the ship yards of New Westminster, B.C. gave Charles skills he later used when he returned to Saskatchewan to farm. Charles married Margaret Arlene Ohm in 1949 with whom they had six children. Charles will be remembered for his gentle spirit and kindness, his genuine caring and his hearty laugh. Charles loved the community where he lived. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Marg, his four daughters: Barb (Floyd) Snyder of Calgary, AB, Bev Richardson of Moose Jaw, SK, Nancy (Gord) Cunningham of Sundre, AB and Carol (Chris) Fisher of Lumsden, SK., and two sons: Bob (Colleen) Long of Nanton, AB and David (Gail) Long of Vibank, SK, as well as his many beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Those wishing to celebrate Charles’ life are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Coteau Hills Bible Church in Mortlach. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Charles' memory to Joe’s Place, a youth centre in Moose Jaw and/or to the Canadian Cancer Society. FRED BILYK
On Wednesday, April 5, 2006, FRED BILYK passed away peacefully in his sleep. Fred was born September 3, 1917 at Gorlitz, Saskatchewan, son of Metro and Polly Bilyk and brother to several siblings. Fred had many hobbies and interests. He especially enjoyed nature and the outdoors, gardening and cooking. Fred proudly and honorably served his country during World War II and was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Army and Navy Vets and the Eagles. Fred was a very kind and thoughtful person who enjoyed helping others. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and brother. Predeceased by his parents, several siblings and daughter, Brenda Bilyk, Fred was the loving father of three daughters, Dorothy Jean, Brenda J. and Arlette Jane and grandfather of seven children: Colin, Ryan, Sarah, Kelly, Adrian, London and Patrick and brothers: John Bilyk and Nick Bilyk. The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Moose Jaw Branch #59. REUBIN SMITH
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of C. Reubin Smith in Ottawa, Ontario on January 8, 2003, one day short of his 75th birthday. Reubin was born in Crane Valley on January 9, 1928. He worked on the mixed farm (known as the Bar 8 Ranch) with his father until 1961 when he purchased it. He had an inherent love of horses and was very proud of the cattle herd he had built up over the years. Reubin became active in politics during the 1960’s and established many friends in the political arena. Reubin sold the majority of the farm in 1976, retaining his father’s original homestead. He and Madeline moved to Lethbridge where he was employed with Wray Hail Agency and the Lethbridge Exhibition Company. In 1980 he started employment with Balog Auction Services as a field representative until his retirement in 1993. During that time he touched a number of people in the livestock industry across western Canada. He moved back to Moose Jaw in 1993 where he resided until the time of his death. Reubin was a loyal fan and supporter of Minor League Baseball in Moose Jaw. He is predeceased by his father, Charles; mother, Beatrice; step-mother, Edna; and sister, Irene. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madeline; son, Earl (Roxanne) of Moose Jaw; daughter, Pamela (Howard) of Ottawa; grandchildren: Lee, Dallas, Cody, Zachary, Lacey, and Cassidy; brother, George (Marion) of Airdrie, AB.; sister, Isabelle (Ken) Mitchell of Moose Jaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, on Monday, January 13, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Bill Luther will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P2, would be appreciated. LAURETTE ARGUIN
MRS. LAURETTE ARGUIN passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the age of 67 years, following a courageous 8 month battle with cancer. Born and raised in Coderre, Saskatchewan, Laurette moved to Moose Jaw in 1985 and began working at Ina Grafton Gage Home as a Special Care Aide where she gave the best of care to those who needed her until her retirement in January 2003. Predeceased by her mother, Rosanna Huel, father, John Huel and cousin, Allain (Butch) Huel. Laurette is survived by her husband, Ernest Arguin and her loving children: Doug (Anne) Arguin of Saskatoon, Adrian (Lorraine) Arguin of Moose Jaw, Sherry (Marty) Lillico of Medicine Hat, Barry (Celine) Arguin of Moose Jaw, Carla (Louis) Carrobourg of Gravelbourg and Tania (David) Kanz of Moose Jaw; seventeen adoring grandchildren as well as her two brothers: Rene (Rena) Huel of Coderre and Jerry Huel (Lorraine Arguin) of Coderre, and sister, Yvette (Louis) Gaucher of Coderre. Following cremation, A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 Third Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Memorialization will take place privately at a later time. Prayers will be held Wednesday evening (April 13) at 7:00 p.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 2M2 would be appreciated. WALTER WILM
Walter Wilm, age 89, died peacefully Sunday morning, November 15, 2009 at his current residence of Providence Place in Moose Jaw, SK. Walter was predeceased by his parents Frank and Paulina Wilm, brother Fred Wilm and sisters Emma Olson, Marie Fleming, Tina Wilm and Ella Wilm. He is survived by his wife Joan Wilm, and by his children Lynne Feeney (Terry), Lorne (Joanne) Wilm, and Donna (Devone) Miner. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and by one sister Martha Woods; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was born in Central Butte on October 25, 1920. He spent his life farming on the family farm south of Central Butte. Walter also spent several years in service during WWII. On August 1, 1943 he married Joan (Morley) of the Thunder Creek area. They raised their three children on the family farm and moved into Central Butte in 1965. Walter continued to farm with his son and grandson right into his 80's. In his spare time, Walter enjoyed watching many sports but in particular he was an avid hockey fan and spent many days driving the grandchildren to games. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in memory of Walter to Central Butte & District Health Care Foundation or Alzheimer Foundation.
