KIM TAMES

CHERYL “KIM” TAMES (nee:St. John) of Moose Jaw and formerly of Edmonton and area passed away February 3, 2009 following a long battle with cancer. Predeceased by her stepdaughter, Amanda Tames, Kim is survived by her three children: Dakota Tames, Thom Tames and Melissa (Missi) St. John - Geary, stepson, Jeremy Tames, husband, Richard Tames, parents, Jim and Kay St. John; siblings: Ron St. John, Janice (Joe) Maier and Wayne (Leigh) St. John, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Kim’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Gary Johnson will officiate. Memorialization will take place in Edmonton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2 or to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Kim, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

NORMA GADD

Norma Isabel Gadd (Smith), of Moose Jaw, and formerly of Drinkwater, passed away April 10, 2005 at the age of 77 years. Norma was born and raised at Rouleau. She attended Hunt School, then school in Rouleau, finishing her education in Regina where she worked for a time. She married Roy Gadd on October 14, 1950. Norma was a member of the Drinkwater United Church Women, the Eastern Star, and she enjoyed singing. Predeceased by her parents, husband Roy in 2001, one brother Cecil, sister-in-law Ethel, sister Evelyn, and brother-in-law, Fred. She leaves to mourn her three sons: Gerald (Lois) – Regina; Jack (Kathy) – Moose Jaw; Stu (Terry) - Moose Jaw, five grandchildren: Jayson, Sarah, Lyndsay, Kelsea, and Katie; brother, Stew (Maureen); and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday April 14, 2005 at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 Second Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, or the Alzheimer’s Association, #301-2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, would be appreciated. In living memory of Norma, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DARLENE McCURDY

DARLENE McCURDY passed away in her sleep at her residence on September 14, 2003 at 47 years. Predeceased by her parents, Flora and Bob McCurdy, she is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Christopher) Robinson and grandson, Bruce – Nashville, Tenn., her brother, Darcy and his sons: Chaun and Travis - Moose Jaw, Robert, Christopher and Justin – Marquis. Following cremation, A Graveside Service will be held at the Family Plot, Rosedale Cemetery on Thursday November 13, 2003 at 1:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Those so wishing, may join the cortege at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home at 12:45 pm. Donations in Darlene’s memory to the Moose Jaw Public Library would be appreciated. In living memory of Darlene, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ART CARROLL

Arthur John Carroll, passed away November 7, 2005 at the age of 81. Art was a WWII Veteran, going to war at the age of 16. He was a business man and sold real estate in Ont., BC, and Sask. for a number of years. He enjoyed playing cribbage, goodminton, but most of all, spending time with his family. Art cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He spent many hours out at the lake, walking for miles through the hills with his dogs. Art is predeceased by his parents, and his loving wife Rita in 1986, as well as 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children: Maureen (Bill) Caslor – Toronto; John (Marla) Carroll – Calgary; Anne (Chuck) Bosgoed – Regina; Lorraine (Perry) Bahr – Regina; Mary Jane (Ray) Francis – Moose Jaw; Richard (Shannon) Carroll – Calgary; Denise (Jeff) Emslie – Regina; Joe (LeeAnne) Carroll – Moose Jaw; twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. We will miss you Dad, especially your infamous grin. In keeping with Art’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place with a private family memorialization on Remembrance Day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, #301 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, or to a charity of choice. In living memory of Art, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RICH BIRKETT

RICHARD JAMES BIRKETT passed away peacefully with family by his side August 6, 2007. Rich was predeceased by his father, Kenneth George Birkett September 15, 1982. Rich is survived by his son, Drew of Moose Jaw; daughters: Allison and Whitney of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and their mother, Marion of Moose Jaw, mother, Joyce Clarice, brother, Garry (Crystal) and family, Jeff (Charmaine) and family – all of Moose Jaw; sisters: Karen (Rick) Jukes and family of Saskatoon, Donna (Barry) Watson and family of Moose Jaw, and Rich’s special friend, Chris Hill and daughters: Alissa, Jocelyn, Emily Sagal of Moose Jaw. Rich was born March 6, 1955. He attended Queen Elizabeth Public School and Central Collegiate. He started working for C.P.Railway in 1972 and was a 4th generation railroader. Back surgery didn’t stop him from eventually becoming a Hogger - a career he was very knowledgeable and passionate about. Rich was very talented with home renovations – a perfectionist doing everything from cement work and framing to finishing work. He cherished the time he spent with Drew completely gutting and renovating Drew’s new home, working tirelessly to try to complete the back yard up until his death. He was especially proud of his two daughters, Allison and Whitney and their academic accomplishments. He was very appreciative and cherished the good friends that he had made and loved to help them out with anything that they had going on or to share a beer. Rich liked music and loved to dance and was known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning for just one more dance. He was a man’s man, strong, driven and yet had a soft heart, generous, with a wonderful sense of humour and a laugh that would shake his body. We all love him dearly and will miss him eternally. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses for their excellent care of Rich and allowing us unlimited access to him during his hospitalization. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 2p.m. from the Moose Jaw Alliance Church, (corner of 9th Avenue N.W. and Thatcher Drive). Dave Moore will officiate. Cremation will take place with memorialization at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care at Moose Jaw Union Hospital, 455 Fairford Street East, Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3. In living memory of Rich, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ALMA SCHICK

Alma Schick of Moose Jaw, born June 28, 1920, was at peace when she died on October 5, 2007 at the age of 87 in the Union Hospital. Originally from Gallilee, Saskatchewan, she lived most of her life in Moose Jaw. She is predeceased by her husband Charles, mother Rosa, father Adolf Wolske, step-father Herman Schumacher and infant son Marvin Douglas. She will be remembered by her children and their spouses: Wayne and Marilyn Schick, Carol Schick and Dan Coggins, Greg Schick and Kathleen Boland; and her four grandchildren: John, Charles Brendan, Owen and Fiona. She also leaves her brother, sisters and their spouses: Ann Wolske, Alfred and June Wolske, Freda Wells, Erna Chase, Martha Feschuk, Charlotte and Marvin Chase, Lena and Don Summers; sisters-in-law Pauline Ewasiuk, Zona Schick, Mary Schick, Barbara Schick; and dozens of nieces and nephews. Alma waited for Charlie to return home from the war. Their marriage of 58 years ended in 2003 when her soul-mate died. Her life centered around her family, the congregation of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and her many friends in and around Moose Jaw. Her final years were spent at Ina Grafton Gage Home. She was known for her role as mother, neighbour, beloved wife, family member, faithful friend and life-long Christian. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 15 Paul Drive, Moose Jaw. Reverend John Kreutzwieser will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospital Expansion Fund of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford Street East, Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3. In living memory of Alma, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

AMANDA BAILEY

MRS. AMANDA H. BAILEY of Pioneers Lodge, Moose Jaw, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her husband, Morris; three sons: Wilfred, Wayne and Murray, and one grandson, Ryan. Amanda is survived by three daughters: Shirley (Patrick) Hartman of Calgary, Brenda Davidson of Regina and Geraldine White of Prince Albert, one son, Barry of Moose Jaw, daughter-in-law, Charlene Bailey of Calgary, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In keeping with Amanda’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery on Saturday July 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Friends are invited to a reception at the W. J. Jones and Son Family Center 262 Athabasca St. E. at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Amanda, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
