CLARENCE ALLAN BIEN
September 28, 1916 – August 25, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of CLARENCE BIEN announces his passing. Clarence passed away peacefully in hospital at the age of 91 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Pansy; his parents, William and Carolina Bien; a sister Leona; and brothers, Herbert, Robert, and Roy. Clarence will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Evelee (Paul) Wenaas of Moose Jaw, Daryll (Diane) of Calgary, Shirley (Les) Pederson of Calgary, and Allen (Marilyn) of Regina; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Clarence and Pansy were married in 1940, and enjoyed 64 years of life together. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Clarence was a devout Christian, and was very involved in Church work over the years. His favourite pastimes included singing with a barbershop group, gardening, and in later years, playing horseshoes and shuffleboard at the senior’s centre. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday August 28, 2008 at 1:30 pm. Eric Nyrose will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to: Western Christian College, 100 – 4400 Fourth Ave., Regina, S4T 0H8. In living memory of Clarence, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ALVIN SOLBERG

Alvin Solberg passed away at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility on July 2, 2007. He was born on the farm north of Herbert on SE34-18-9 to Elias and Oline Solberg on July 23, 1917. Alvin was one of seven brothers and five sisters. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Nels, Carl, Irwin, Lars, Edwin, Olaf, Albert, and his sisters, Ella, Clara, Olianna, Milda, and Hilda, he was the last surviving member of the family. Alvin went to Pony Butte School completing grade 8 and went on to jobs on farms and lumber camps. During the Depression he worked for Axel Nelson on the farm for a number of years. When World War II broke out he served in the Forces for 5 ˝ years on the home defense as a rifleman and with the military police. Returning home in 1946, he bought the Harrison farm and began farming again along with telephone line work in the Herbert and Main Centre areas. He met Nora Lees in 1957 and they raised four children, Cathy, Glen, Bonnie, and James. Alvin lived on the farm until June 2007. Alvin is survived by his children, Cathy (Rick) Carpenter – Manor, SK, Glen (Lori) Solberg – Herbert, Bonnie (Gary) Anderson - Charlotte, NC, and James Solberg – Swift Current; and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herbert on Friday July 6, 2007 at 11:00 am. Reverend Terry Simonson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Highland Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials to the Swift Current Salvation Army (Food Bank), Box 2061, Swift Current, S9H 4M7 would be appreciated. In living memory of Alvin, a tree will be planted by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home, Chaplin.

MARIE KOCH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MARIE THERESA ROSE KOCH (nee Fischer), beloved wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, at the age of 71 at the Regina General Hospital on April 27, 2005, surrounded by her loving family in the presence of the Lord. Marie was born in Compeer, Alberta on July 4, 1933. After completing her education in Compeer, she met Peter. They were married at Unity, Saskatchewan in 1952 and after residing in several areas, they settled in Claybank in 1959. She operated the post office out of their home in Claybank for thirty-two years, retiring to Tuxford in 1999. Marie leaves to mourn her loving husband of fifty-three years, Peter; their seven children, nineteen grandchildren and great-granddaughter: Emerson (Karen) and their family: Nadine (Marcus), Cole (daughter, Reese) and Kara; Ally (Betty Ann) and their family: Jessica and Jennifer; Danny (Arlene) and their family: Ryley, Trevor, Lindsey and Peter; Kathy (Randy) Rossler and their family: Jodi (Alison) and Vanessa; Bettyann (Brent) Skagen and their family: Nathanael and Kristen; John (Dana) and their family: J.R., Brianne and Keshia; Peter and stepchildren: Danielle, Takota and Lee; her three sisters: Joey, Freda and Doris, one brother, Otto and their families as well as numerous other relatives and close friends. Marie was predeceased by her parents; two brothers and one sister. Marie was an incredibly strong person and although she has left us, she will forever be remembered and loved in our hearts. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw. Reverend Father Alex Osei, Reverend Father Steve Ripplinger and Reverend Father Cornelius Lucy will be the Mass Celebrants. Private family memorialization will take place at the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Altario, Alberta at a later date. Memorials for the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation (Intensive Care Unit), 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3 would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Marie, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JESSIE COURTNAGE

Jessie Isabelle Courtnage passed away on April 10, 2007 at Extendicare at the age of 90 years. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 2003. She was also predeceased by sisters, Helen and Bessie, and brother, Marshal. Jessie was born at the family homestead near Limerick, Saskatchewan to Dave and Pearl (Saxton) Birss. At the age of 23, Jessie came to Moose Jaw where she met and married Fred, her devoted husband of 63 years. Jessie was a warm and loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Zion United Church, volunteering for many years with the U.C.W., and was active in the Kinette and K-40 Clubs. After raising their two sons, Fred and Jessie joined the Wally Byam Caravan Club and spent many years travelling in their Airstream trailer in Canada, the United States and Mexico, after which they wintered for nine years in Mesa, Arizona. Jessie leaves to mourn sons Ralph (Juanita) of Moose Jaw and Don (Pat) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Todd, Ryan (Olga), Alesya (Tony), Darren (Mavis) and Andrew; great granddaughters Sofia and Chloë. Also surviving Jessie are sisters, Marge and Irene, and sister-in-law, Ruby. Jessie’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind and caring staff at Extendicare where Jessie enjoyed her last three years. A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. Linda Owens will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Extendicare Family Support Group, 1151 Coteau ST.W., S6H 5G5 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross ST.W., S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. In living memory of Jessie, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LILLIAN DALRYMPLE

On 28 January, 2007 Lillian May Dalrymple (Heron) passed away peacefully at Extendicare, at the age of 90 years. Lillian was born 14 August, 1916 in the Pioneer School district.. Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Florence Heron; husband Bill in 1978; sister Mildred (Bus Boyd and Bert Ogolvie) of Toronto; son Grant Dalrymple in 1989; and grandchildren Sherri and Scott in 1968. Lillian is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Bill) Follensbee – Nipawin, and their family, Michael (Laurie) Follensbee – Moose Jaw and their children Taylor, Cassidy and Riley, and Michelle Follensbee and husband Sean Pass – Edmonton and their children, Jack and Sophia; daughter-in-law, Judy (Les) England – Moose Jaw, and family, Candy (Dale) Richardson – Whitehorse, YK and children Jordan and Shelby; Kathy (Robert) Williams – Airdrie, AB and children Colton and Courtney; Jill Dalrymple – Calgary; step-sons, Shannon England and children Sara and Jenna, and Curtis (Sandra) England – all of Regina; son Glenn Dalrymple – Regina; sister Mabel Acton – Moose Jaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Mom worked with Dad on the family farm at Archydal, SK after their marriage in 1939. She was very involved with gardening, curling and raising three children. She also was active with the UCW at Summerside, Wesley, and Boharm Churches, and later when she moved to Moose Jaw with Minto and Zion. She was also involved with Genealogy, the Canadian Club and the Cosmo Centre. Mother was a long time resident of Victoria Towers (23 years) and enjoyed lawn bowling in Crescent Park, traveling to the Orient in the 80’s and bus trips to both coasts. Failing health in 2004 required Mom to reside at Extendicare. Special thanks to the staff of Extendicare in making Mom’s last years comfortable. Mom is the last survivor of the Dalrymple “clan” in the Archydal district. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday January 31, 2007 at 10:30 am. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Extendicare Family Support Group, 1151 Coteau St. W., S6H 5G5, or the Shriners’ Hospital Travel Fund, c/o The Shrine Club, 1767 Main St. N., S6J 1L6, would be appreciated. In living memory of Lillian, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LENA M. HANNAH

LENA MAY HANNAH passed away in hospital December 21, 2004 at the age of 93 years. Born in 1911, Lena was raised in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. “Auntie” resided in Moose Jaw most of her adult life. Predeceased by her husband, Herman “Jack”, two brothers and one sister, Lena is survived by a sister, Georgina (Al) Albrecht; two sisters-in-law, her niece Pat of Moose Jaw, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Though no children of her own “Aunt Lena & Uncle Jack’s” door was always open to their extended family, particularly the Lasby boys: Bill, Rick, Brett and Craig. Lena’s unconditional love will be a devastating loss to her “special” nephew, Bill, who she supported with weekly letters, gifts and visits for as long as she was able. At Lena’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place with a family graveside service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan, P.O. Box 305, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 3A1. In living memory of Lena, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

NICK COZMA

NICK COZMA, age 84 of Moose Jaw died peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2007 at Pioneer Village. Born November 19, 1922, Nick enjoyed working on his farm in the Kayville district. As a young man he married Elsie Ignatescu in Kayville, Saskatchewan on December 4, 1954. They resided in Kayville until 1993 when they moved to Moose Jaw, making it their permanent home. Nick was a veteran of World War II, from 1942–1945. He returned to the family farm, worked for the RM of Ogema in 1973 and the Ormiston Salt Mine in 1974, retiring in the Kayville district in 1988. In his spare time Nick enjoyed Bingo, fishing, playing cards and playing with his grandchildren. Nick and Elsie entertained and delighted seniors with their company and with their jokes. Nick was a happy, kindhearted man who had a good sense of humor and could be found joking around. Nick is predeceased by his parents Fritz and Ann, his brothers: Pete and John, and sister Lena . He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Elsie of almost 53 years; four sons: Dale (Doreen), Brian (Cathy), Stan (Shirley) and Randy Blair (Barb); eighteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, two brothers Dan and George and two sisters Mary and Elaine. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 10th at 1:30 p.m. at W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele, Moose Jaw Branch #59. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening, 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing, a memorial contribution to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High Street West, Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8 would be appreciated. In living memory of Nick, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
