ROGER HOULE

I do not want to be remembered by someone else’s definition of well. I want to be remembered right. That is why I wrote this obituary. My life journey on this world came to an end on August 19, 2003 . To my friends in the amateur radio community I am now a silent key. I was born January14, 1953 in Morris, Manitoba. Along the journey of life I ended up becoming an electrician. It paid the bills, the work is honest and worthy of doing but I doubt that it was my calling. I was not a Scout, nor a KKK member, nor did I win the Nobel Peace Prize, nor was I awarded the Companion of Canada medal; I was however blessed to meet a beautiful woman who became my wife August 23, 1980. We are bestowed with two beautiful, talented children, a son Dustin and a daughter Renée. I shall miss them more than they know. If I am to be remembered for one thing, let it be known I tried to walk quietly on this earth and tried to hate no one. For many people God takes sanctuary in the churches of the world, but for me I found Him in the beauty of nature, in the awe inspiring view of a prairie sunset, and especially while I fished. I loved meeting people, traveling, fishing, gardening, the sound of wind-chimes and provoking the self-important. I hated broccoli, Sunday school, and self-righteous bureaucrats. I am predeceased by my mother and father Marie and Wilfrid Houle. I leave to mourn my wife Judy, my son Dustin, my daughter Renée; and two brothers, Arthur and Albert. A Memorial Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave. N.W., on Saturday August 23, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Garry Johnson will officiate. At some future date my ashes will be scattered at a sacred site. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu I would ask you to make a donation to Minto United Church. Those of you who I met along the journey know what I looked like and to those who do not know me you care little of how I look so I will forgo the picture. In my memory, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

During their marriage they travelled to many parts of the province and met life long friends. They lived in Lenny, Keystown, Central Butte, Keeler, Hearne and Belle Plaine. In July of 1986, they retired to Moose Jaw. In retirement they enjoyed traveling south and always looked forward to visiting with family. The Celebration of Bernie’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday August 15, 2008 at 1:30 pm. A private interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. No flowers please.
