Carl Newton Wells, aged 90, recently of Tuxford, passed away early the morning of July 15, 2003 at Pioneers Lodge, Moose Jaw. A Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, Moose Jaw on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 10:30 am. Memorialization will take place at St. Columba Church Cemetery near Tuxford later that day. Carl Wells was born at Antelope, Sask. He married Olive Thomas in 1936 and from then on farmed in the Tuxford district. Carl served overseas with the Princess Louise Dragoons from 1942-45. A committed supporter of the co-operative movement, Carl served with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, as a director of the Moose Jaw Co-op and of Federated Co-operatives where he became vice-president. He was a strong supporter of community life and served on the Highway Traffic Board. Carl is predeceased by sisters: Jean, Violet, Irma and Olive and by his youngest son, Kenneth. He is survived by Olive, his wife of 67 years, daughter, Joyce of Regina and son, Stanley – currently visiting from Australia; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society or to Ina Grafton Gage Home, Moose Jaw, c/o W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0L4. EVELYN JENKINS
1920 - 2005
Evelyn Jenkins was born on June 27, in Virden, Manitoba and passed away in her sleep on May 31, 2005 at her home in Moose Jaw where she had resided for the last 23 years. She will always be remembered as a bright and cheerful person with an endless capacity to give of herself, her love and her resources. Mom was an energetic and resourceful person, a dutiful daughter, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mom was happiest being a homemaker with a special love of gardening and turning the results into canning and pickling and, in true form giving most of it away. In her years of working, she was employed in the restaurant and retail business in the 30's and 40's and became a business proprietor in the 1950's. Our dear mother married Sydney Jenkins in 1966 and they made their home in Winnipeg. Evelyn was predeceased by her mother Margaret Fergusson, brothers Ronald, Ernie, Don and husband Sydney, She will be lovingly and forever remembered by her son Garry and wife Gerry of Calgary; daughter Pat and husband Paul of Winnipeg; and the special memories she gave her grandchildren - Diana and Clint Mager, David and Colleen Walmsley as well as two great-grandchildren - Sydney and Tyler Mager; and extended families of John Smith (late of Moose Jaw), Spiers families of Indio, California and Winnipeg, Fergusson families of Alberta and B.C., and special friends Audrey and Joe Kmita. A Celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday, June 7th, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Sask. Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. HETTIE BIDEWELL
HETTIE MARGARET BIDEWELL, born February 3, 1914 in municipality of Exel in the Crane Valley district, Saskatchewan in a sod shack, passed away May 16, 2006 in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Hettie married Henry Bidewell in 1939 in Moose Jaw where they raised their six children. Upon Henry’s retirement they moved to the Grande Prairie area in 1974. After Henry’s passing in 1999, Hettie came to Moose Jaw for a visit in 2002 and having medical problems, remained in Moose Jaw until her passing. Predeceased by her husband, Henry – 1999; brothers: Arnold, Aylmer, Ivan and William, and grandson, Donovan Bidewell. Hettie is survived by her sister, Hilda (Jack) Casey of Langley, B.C.; her six children: Grace (Bill) Storrie of Breaverlodge, Alta., Leslie (Sandi) of Spruce Grove, Alta., Viola (Arlen) Avery of Moose Jaw, Doreen (Raymond) Saathoff of Moose Jaw, Sharon (Norbert) Jans of Grande Prairie, Alta., and Donald (Nancy) Bidewell of Bezanson, Alta., as well as twenty grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one foster niece, Maxine (Alvin) Jacobson of Calgary, Alta. and their children. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. ALEXANDER ROBERTSON
ALEXANDER ROBERTSON, of Moose Jaw, passed away Monday, January 27, 2003. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 25, 1909 and came to Canada with his parents in May, 1910. Alex was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church and Memorial Lodge. He worked for York Auto Supply Co. Ltd. for forty-eight years, retiring in 1985. Predeceased by his parents Florence and Peter and brother David, Alex will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Mae, his son Grant, daughter-in-law Sharon and granddaughter Shannon as well as his nieces and nephews, their families and brothers and sisters-in-law. In keeping with Alex’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place with a memorial service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex’s memory may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, c/o 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3. MARGARET COCKBURN
MARGARET COCKBURN of Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully Monday, May 8, 2006 after several years of declining health. Margaret was born on September 7, 1919 to Charles and Huldah Lowe at the family farm in the Baildon district. She and her brothers Norman and Ben were best friends during their childhood years and throughout their lives. Margaret attended Cataraqui School, took high school correspondence classes at home and finished grade 12 at Briercrest School. She then attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and in 1941 began teaching at Flowing Well in the Fair Valley School district in southwest, Saskatchewan. Over the next few years she taught at Petrolia, Regina, Tuxford, and Moose Jaw. In 1949 she married Don Cockburn and moved to the Briercrest district where she quickly became involved in community, school and church activities. The family moved to Moose Jaw in 1961 where Margaret continued the career she loved – making many long-lasting friendships with students and colleagues. Following her retirement in 1980, she enjoyed gardening, playing bridge with friends or an evening of cards with her husband, her brothers and sisters-in-law. And, she made sure her grandchildren knew how to play cribbage! Until her recent illness, Margaret was active in St. Andrew’s United Church and for many years was involved in the spring canvass for the Canadian Cancer Society. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Don, grandson, Steven Edge and his wife, Shelagh Newsham-Edge, brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Frances Lowe; sisters-in-law: Gladys Frere, Barbara Murray and Gertie Moffatt; brothers-in-law: Woodrow Cockburn and Mac Murray; nieces: Laureen Cockburn, Carol (Murray) Tenbroek and her husband, Hamilton and Nora (Cockburn) Hambridge. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Charlotte (Ken) Edge, Leanne (Mark) Svaren and baby Lacey, Jennifer Edge; son, Fred (Julie) Cockburn, Glenda and Tim, brother, Ben (Jean) Lowe; brother-in-law: Keith (Norah) Cockburn and sister-in-law, Agnes Murray, as well as several special nieces, nephews and cousins. Following cremation, private family memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Andrew’s United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. MARGARET MAXINE (McKEE) YORK
Margaret was born July 13, 1930 in Rockglen, Saskatchewan. She passed away April 24, 2007 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her husband Bill York and daughter, Delee; her parents, Albert and Susie McKee; 5 brothers, infant Donald, Thomas, Donald, Lyle, and Bob; 2 sisters, Alice and Norma. Margaret is survived by her two sons Bob (Trish) of Saskatoon, Bert (Scott) of Calgary; and daughter, Donna (Chris) Christmann of Moose Jaw; four grandchildren, Braydon, and Alexandria York; Kurtis (Alicia), and Jillian Christmann; three great-grandchildren, Joel, Emily and Thomas; one sister Helen (Norm) Smith, many brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret was raised in Rockglen and Briercrest, SK. After Margaret finished school in Briercrest, SK, she moved to Moose Jaw and worked at Rexall Drugs on Main Street. Margaret met Bill in 1951 and they were married in Edmonton October 1953. Margaret and Bill moved from Moose Jaw to the farm in December 1973 and farmed until their retirement. Following cremation, a Graveside Service and interment will take place Saturday April 28 at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery. All are invited to attend and may meet at the Cemetery gates just prior to 2:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. In living memory of Margaret, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. HOMER THOMPSON
It is with great sadness that the family of Homer Thompson announce his sudden passing on March 11, 2004. Homer's life's passion was being in the outdoors during work, camping, hunting and fishing. Homer was predeceased by his parents, one brother, a sister a son and a grandson. Homer is survived by four daughters and two sons: Adrienne (Gordon) McMurdo - Regina; Ken (Gloria) Thompson - Calgary; Lyle (Sadie) Thompson - Marshall, SK; Elfie (Larry) Howard - Innisfail, Ab.; Gelores Thompson - Melfort SK; Deana (Jason) Traverse - Regina, eighteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one sister: Ruby (Frank) Fraser - Preeceville, SK, two brothers: Ray Thompson - Pontieux, SK and Bobby (Brenda) Thompson - Prince George, BC. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel on Tuesday March 16, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate.
