SHIRLEY MOORE

Shirley Moore (Simmons) of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully with her family by her side June 27, 2007. Shirley was born July 30, 1916. She was a member of the Royal Purple Moose Jaw Branch for many years, and volunteered her time with many different organizations. Shirley retired from Valley View Centre after 25 years of service. She is predeceased by her husband Bill, sisters Orvilla Simmons and Gerry Bickner, and brother Sherwood Simmons. Shirley will be sadly missed by son Darryl, and daughter Rheva; numerous nieces, nephews and family members. A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday July 3, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Memorialization will follow at Sunset Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorials to Citizen’s All, 410 Hochelaga St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0P3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Shirley, a tree will be planted by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

PENNY BRAATEN

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Penny Braaten on Saturday May 7, 2005 at age 87, beloved mother of Bob (Faith) and his children Robyn, Darla, Andrea, and Leif, and Pam (Randy) Ludwar and their children Andrew and Erica. Penny is predeceased by her parents, Patrick “Jack” and May Gillen, and dear husband, Harry in 1995. Penny was born in 1917 at Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, the daughter of two educators. She graduated from Columbia University, New York, in 1946 with a Bachelor of Music Education, and later pursued a Master’s degree in music education at the University of Southern California (1949-52). She taught school in Long Beach California and in Los Angeles before moving to Moose Jaw where in 1952 she met and married Harry Braaten, then a principal at Prince Arthur School. Penny was a retired music educator having taught for the Moose Jaw Public Schools from 1945 until 1974. Her love of music and teaching was a passion for her. She devoted much time and energy to her career, helping to organize the first annual Rotary Carol Festival in 1946, local music festivals choirs and concerts. She began her study of Carl Orff’s Schulwerk for Children in 1970, which exerted a profound influence upon her teaching. She directed several city choirs and was the organist/choir leader at Central Lutheran Church, St. Andrew’s and Zion Churches. Penny was an active member of Zion Church, as well as the P.E.O., Duplicate Bridge Club, R.M.T.A., and the Heart of the City Piano Program. She continued to teach, perform, and compose right up until the time of her illness. Penny left a legacy of love for her children and grandchildren, as well as her extended family and her host of friends. A Celebration of Penny’s life will be held at Zion United Church on Thursday May 12, 2005 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Molly Kitchen will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Penny Braaten Memorial Scholarship Fund, for the Moose Jaw Festival, c/o Carol McWilliams, 803 Monk Ave., Moose Jaw, S6H 4E1. In living memory of Penny, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

STANLEY ATKINS

Stanley Arthur Atkins, age 79 years of Moose Jaw, went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2005 after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Lil; son Doug (Cathie), grandchildren Dave, Drew, and Cheralyn of Saskatoon; daughter Connie of Moose Jaw; sisters Phyl Kindred of Regina, Vera Yeager of Cranbrook, BC, Marj Foster of Moose Jaw, Vivian (Mike) Olynik of Calgary, as well as his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, one sister Audrey of St. Thomas, ON, and four brothers-in-law, Cec Kindred, Alf Yeager, Bill Foster, and Ollie White. Stan was born in Gravelbourg, SK, and moved to Moose Jaw at an early age, where he attended school. He began employment with CP Rail in 1941, where he remained until his retirement in 1985. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving and fellowshipping for many years. He also enjoyed bowling in his younger years, and was an avid hockey enthusiast. The Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Friday January 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Steven McCuaig will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. In living memory of Stan, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

SALLY DELAURIER

Sally Delaurier passed away peacefully June 25, 2008, after a battle with cancer. Sally was born in St. Rose, Manitoba on September 7, 1942 to Joseph and Josephine Corbel. They were very proud of their youngest daughter. Sally met her husband, Albert in 1958 at a local dance in Laurier, Manitoba. Sally and Albert were married in Laurier on May 26, 1962. In 1963 they moved to Moose Jaw and started a family. Their oldest son Ronald was born in 1963, married Carla giving Sally and Albert three grandchildren, Sharon (Cam) Church, Nicole (Craig) Moore and Garret Delaurier. Dan was born in 1964 giving Sally and Albert a grandson Aiden (Bobbi Pelletier). Robert (Carol) was born in 1967 giving Sally and Albert two grandsons Catland and Mason. Craig and Nicole made Sally and Albert great-grandparents with their daughter Adalie and one on the way. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Tony Corbel, sister Marg Friskie and is survived by her sister Irene Montsion. Sally and Albert were seasoned travelers as they have been to more than eight different countries on three different continents. Sally loved experiencing different cultures. Her real love was her family. Her door was always open for every one and she loved everyone who entered. Sally loved to garden, decorate her home for the holidays, decorate cakes, sing along to her gospel music, sew, go garage sailing, and nurture others. She was a devout Catholic who lived the love and faith she had in Jesus. Sally was not only a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, she was a true friend. A Celebration of Sally’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, on Saturday June 28, 2008 at 10:00 am. Father Job Addai will preside. A Prayer Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday evening at 7:00 pm. Memorialization will take place at a later date. In living memory of Sally, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RETA CLARK

Reta Pearl Clark peacefully passed away on March 14, 2005 at Ina Grafton Gage Home at the age of 100 years. Reta was born in Lauder, Manitoba on October 8, 1904 of Irish/English ancestry. She was the eldest of seven children born to William and Annie (nee Shillington) Keeler. Reta grew up on the family farm, and took her formal schooling at Truro, Lauder and in Hartney. She married George Houck in 1924, and they farmed near Lauder. Her life was centered around her four children, Doreen, Edythe, Bill and Donna. She retired and moved to Brandon (1968-1998), then to Kimberley, BC (1998-2003) and to Moose Jaw in Dec. 2003. Reta was a gentle lady and loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren lit the spark in her eye and put the smile on her face. She loved them all dearly. Reta was faithful to the United Church and was a willing volunteer when called upon. She will be well remembered for her music and playing the piano throughout the years into her 100th year. She recently received a gold medal for her 100 years commemorating Saskatchewan’s 100th birthday. Her adult life was healthy - a testament to hard work on the farm, Red Rose tea, chocolate and oatmeal. She enjoyed traveling and always made time to visit with family and friends sometimes involving a game of Whist/Scrabble. She enjoyed cooking and could not abide waste and lived a life based on environmental principles. Reta was a reluctant patient and always tried to avoid going to the hospital or any medical intervention. As one doctor said, "we can't argue with her success". Reta was predeceased by her mother Annie (1971) father William (1950), five siblings, Lloyd, Lillian, Grace, Annie & Ken. She was also predeceased by her first husband George Houck (1966), second husband Roy Clark (1981), grand-daughter Vanessa Lynn (1982) and sons-in-law, Gord and Robert (1992). Left to celebrate Reta’s life are her children: Doreen (Gord) Howe, Edythe Phillips, Bill (Donna Jean) Houck, Donna (Ernie) Schneider Millar, seventeen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and five great-great -grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Clint) Whetter, sister-in-law Marjorie Keeler, nieces, nephews and friends. EDWARD LUDKE

EDWARD FRED LUDKE passed away February 16, 2004 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Ed was born March 22, 1918 at Congress, Saskatchewan. He was raised here and attended Aldenberg School (south of Congress). Ed married Julia Goodnough in 1944 and moved to Expanse where he farmed and raised his five children with Julia. Ed was one of the first to bring in Charlais cattle to the Mossbank area as well as being a dealer for Smith-Roles. He enjoyed mechanical work and teaching many neighbours to weld. They retired to Moose Jaw in 1979 where he continued to enjoy his love for curling until the age of eighty. Ed also enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with friends at the Co-op and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had attended Mossbank Lutheran Church and then here in Moose Jaw. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Katherine and by brothers: William, Walter and Frank (Lil), Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Julia (nee Goodnough), brother, Carl (Phyllis) of Moose Jaw; daughters: Doreen (Phil) of Emerald Park, Edith (Neil) Gibbings of Swift Current; sons: Gordon (Lila) of Emerald Park, Leonard (Mona) of Mossbank, Ronald (Sheryl) of Sherwood Park, AB; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Interment will take place privately prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2 would be gratefully accepted. Special thank you to Thunder Creek Home Care, the staff of Chez Nous; Providence Place and Prairie Rose Home Care for their care and support. In living memory of Edward, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

PANSY VIOLA BIEN
August 16, 1916 – September 17, 2005

Pansy passed away quietly at her home after a courageous battle with cancer on September 17, 2005 . She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Clarence; her children, Evelee (Paul) Wenaas of Moose Jaw, Daryll (Diane, nee Bryant) of Calgary, Shirley (Les) Pederson of Calgary, Allen (Marilyn, nee Williamson) of Regina; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister and three brothers. Pansy will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. The Funeral Service will be held at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main Street North, Moose Jaw, on Wednesday September 21, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Eric Nyrose officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Tuesday evening 7 – 9 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Western Christian College, 100-4400 4th Ave Regina, S4T 0H8, would be appreciated. In living memory of Pansy, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
