To a beautiful life, Vera Albina (Martin) Spencer, late of Crestview Manor, Moose Jaw, passed away February 11, 2007. Vera was born in Guelph, Ontario March 21, 1910, to John (Jack) and Anna Martin. The family moved to Limerick, SK in the summer of 1913, later moving to the Mazenod district. Vera attended Davidson Business College in Moose Jaw and later worked for the R.M. of Sutton and as a bookkeeper at National Sodium Products in Bishopric, SK. She married Clifford Spencer in August of 1940. After his time in the army, they made their home in Chaplin, SK. where Clifford became Superintendent at Sask. Minerals. They were very active members of the community. Vera is predeceased by her father and mother, her husband Clifford in 1991, special brother-in-law Calvin in 1998, and brother-in-law Henry. She leaves to mourn her beloved sister, Hazel Glasrud; sisters-in-law, Norma Spencer and Muriel Irman; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, her bridge buddies and her bus buddies. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday February 14, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will take place at the Chaplin Cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the Sask. Abilities Council, 2310 Louise Ave. Saskatoon, S7J 2C7, or the Chaplin Community Cemetery Fund, would be appreciated. NANCY DUNN
NANCY M. DUNN of Moose Jaw, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003 at the age of 89 years. Born October 19, 1914 in Moose Jaw, Nancy was raised in the Baildon and Mortlach areas. She became a school teacher, teaching in Caron, then in various Moose Jaw elementary schools, teaching English classes at CFB and Peacock. She was a horticulturalist enthusiast for many years and was active in the local Horticultural Society. She enjoyed her flower garden and fruit trees. Nancy was active in the community with various boards: Library Board, School Board and Humane Society. She enjoyed reading and painting. Predeceased by her husband, Richard (RJ), parents, John and Sarah Seed; two brothers: Edward “Pat” and Jim. Nancy is survived by her family: nieces: Cathy Seed of Saskatoon, and Barb (Dean) Tollefson of Deloraine, Manitoba, nephew, Dennis of Victoria, B.C., his two daughters: Christie and Shellee and two sisters-in-law: Ann Seed of Saskatoon and Evelyn (Bill) Burbank, Moose Jaw. A Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will officiate. Those wishing to attend may meet at the main gates of the cemetery prior to 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 7K7 would be appreciated. JAMIE DEOBALD
The family of Jamie Phillip Deobald is saddened to announce his sudden passing on October 10, 2008, at the age of 37. Jamie resided in Regina until moving to London, ON with his family in 2004. Predeceased by his mom Margaret Anna Deobald in 1994, Jamie will be greatly missed by his wife Karen, and their children Mitchell and Brenna; father Ralph and step-mom Star; brother and best friend Dion (Carol) and sister Twyla (Terry); step-brothers Robin and Scott; step-sisters, Lynn (Raymond) and Lori; nieces, Shelby, Chelsea, Aliesha, Brooklynn, Emily; and nephew Eric; father and mother-in-law Erwin and Carole Flaman, brothers-in-law Aaron (Heather), and Jason (Melissa) and sisters-in-law Allison (Derek), Jocelyn, and Raeleen (Chris) and their families; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. A Celebration of Jamie’s life will be held at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, on Wednesday October 22, 2008 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. JACK ARMSTRONG
The family and friends of John (Jack) Donald Armstrong, grieve the loss of his joyful presence as he passed away gently and quietly in the arms of his wife on Friday January 26, 2007. Jack and Bernie had celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. Jack is predeceased by his parents, George and Etta (Hershey) Armstrong, brother Walter, who died serving his country in WWII, brother Bob and sisters, Irene, June, Laura, and Lois. He is survived by his wife, Bernie; his children: Jackie Armstrong, Shirley Reid, Janice (Ron) Boychuk, and Kathy Tressel; grandchildren: Michael Reid (Brandi) and great-grandchild Emma; Wesley Reid (Twyla) and great-grandchild Ashtin; Marty Tressel (Jen), Jesse Tressel (Julie); Sarah, Kristin, and Jenna Boychuk; and sisters, Dorothy, Grace, Marjorie, and Phyllis. Jack came from a very large family so there are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; great in every sense of the word. Jack served as a rear gunner in the Airforce in WWII. He met Bernie while working at Patterson Motors, where he had a very long, enjoyable career. He served the Moose Jaw community in many ways, some of which were: on the Hospital Board, the Arthritis Society, as an Alderman, and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and I.O.O.F. The past three years Jack and Bernie have had a special family at Chez Nous Senior Citizen’s Home. We are so grateful for the love and care of the staff. The Service of Remembrance will be held at Zion United Church on Thursday February 1, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Larry Hasmatali will officiate. Memorialization will follow. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, son, and grandpa, Herb Halverson, late of Darmody, SK on January 7, 2005. Born on April 7, 1941 in Broadview, SK, he is predeceased by his father Burnt Halverson, stepfather Frank Bahr, brother Ronald Carl Halverson and an infant daughter, Donna Marie. He is survived by his mother, Anne Bahr of Moose Jaw, brothers Cliff Halverson (Grayce Ferguson) of Tugaske, SK, Jerry Halverson of Eyebrow, SK; and his children, Scott (Vicki) Halverson, Herb George and Richard George – all of Moose Jaw; Candace George and Crystal George of Edmonton, AB; special daughter, Rhonda Enns of Moose Jaw and nine grandchildren; niece, Bonnie (Pat) Buller of Qu’Appelle, nephew Darren Halverson of Eyebrow, SK; and aunts and uncles. VERNA (MAXINE) CRISTO
Maxine passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Moose Jaw Union Hospital with her family by her side. Maxine was born on August 5, 1931 in Central Butte. She grew up on the family farm near Central Butte and took her schooling at Osceola School and Rolling Prairie School. She married Marvin Hallborg on October 16, 1951. They farmed in the Halvorgate District. They had four children: Barry, Calvin, Milton and Brenda. Marvin passed away April 6, 1972. Maxine later met Sam Cristo and was married August 27, 1977. They lived in Moose Jaw where they enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, bowling and enjoyed many holidays together. Since Sam’s retirement they joined the Moose Jaw Camping Club and enjoyed many camping trips, making many life – long friends. Grandchildren were often included on these trips. Maxine had many talents including cooking and her beautiful handiwork in paper tole, crocheting, tatting, knitting, sewing, and quilting. Her family always treasured the many beautiful gifts that she made for them. Maxine’s favorite time of the year was Christmas and she made it special for each member of her family. Maxine always welcomed everyone into her home with a hug and a kiss. Maxine is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Pauline Peterson, her first husband Marvin Hallborg, sons Barry and Calvin; brothers Gordon, Orvil, Arnold, Vern, Allan and Claire; sisters Kay Osaduik and Eileen Braaten. In passing she leaves to mourn her loving husband Sam, son Milton (Gina) of Chaplin, daughter Brenda Sims (Barry) of Chaplin, daughters-in-law Wanda Hallborg of Moose Jaw and Sherry Hallborg of Chaplin, nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Lynette (Blair Kotz), Shannon (Lee Pearson), Curtis, Tricia, Melanie, Tina (Kevin Liebaert), Christopher and Michael and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Kaitlyn and Danika; brother Nubie Peterson; sisters Eleanor (Frank) Guckert, Marline (Zenen) Parfenuik, Carol (Joe) McGregor; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Thursday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home.
