TERRY OXBORROW

On December 18, 2003, after a brief illness, Terry of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, formerly of Moose Jaw, went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Esther; two sons: Geof (Bella) of Fort Saskatchewan; Brian of Moose Jaw; one daughter, Dianne (Jim) of Australia; two grandsons: Jordan and Eric of Moose Jaw; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in England. Terry was born in Blyth, England in 1934 and came to Canada with his mother in 1948. He joined the RCAF in 1951, and served with the Armed Forces for 29 years. He was stationed in Ontario, France and Germany before coming to Moose Jaw, where he spent the next 28 years. Terry was an avid bowler, which was a major part of his life. He was also a youth bowling leader for many years. He served on the Board of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans of Canada, and did hospital visitations for many years. Terry loved his family and his many friends. His father and mother predeceased him. A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Pastor John Kreutzwieser will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Terry, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

EMMA HARRISON

EMMA HARRISON – (Formerly Emma Wiens) – Born September 2, 1905 in Marion, South Dakota – Died May 27, 2003 in the Herbert Nursing Home, at Herbert, Saskatchewan. Emma spent a working lifetime on Saskatchewan farms. Her father Jacob Berg and mother Katie Berg farmed near Ernfold, where she grew up. Then she farmed with her husband Jacob Wiens near Glen Kerr, where she bore three sons: Clifford, Bert and Dale. She later married Eddie Harrison, with a farm near Chaplin. They eventually retired to a small home in Herbert. Her interest in art filled her time until Eddie, her husband died. Her last years were spent in the Herbert Nursing Home. As she grew older one goal was to receive Centurial Accolades from Canada’s Governor General and from the Queen herself, on reaching one hundred years of age. She came close, reaching the venerable age of 97. She is predeceased by her mother and father, first husband Jacob Wiens and second husband Eddie Harrison; her brothers Walter Berg, Harry Berg, Irwin Berg and sister Hulda Potts. Surviving are her three sons: Clifford (Patricia), Bert (Isabella) and Dale (Marilyn); fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is remembered for her interest in gardening and in her keen interest in painting and the design of greeting cards. Another interest she had was making chocolates of original variety. She was generous with them. May she rest in peace. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chaplin Community Complex. Sandra Sellars officiated. Interment followed at the Chaplin Cemetery. Memorials for the Herbert Nursing Home would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Emma, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home.

MICKEY MINTENKO

MICHAEL SCOTT “MICKEY” died tragically on November 26, 2003. Born in Moose Jaw on November 5, 1957 to George and Jean Mintenko, Mickey was raised on the family farm in Moose Jaw and attended Alexandra, Lindale and Palliser Heights Elementary Schools, Peacock Collegiate, Luther College and SIAST where he completed a carpentry course. Mickey was a “Free Spirit” from the time he was born and had a zest for life compared to none! If there were words to describe him they would be “No Fear – I’m 10 feet tall and bullet proof!” Mickey had a passion for all sports, especially golf and didn’t blink an eye when it came to a wager or bet on any sporting event. Mickey and his brother Doug farmed the family farm for many years up until the present, and in the winters it was “Mickey Time”. He experienced many different winter destination areas but a trip to Thailand in 2001 with Dougie and some of Mickey’s “Buds” was an outstanding experience for him. Everyone knew where to find Mickey at around 4:00 p.m. each day. It was “Cocktail Time at the Park” with all of his many buddies where they told stories and shared some B.S. Mickey acquired many nicknames throughout his lifetime, some of which were: “Hair Ball”, “Buckwheat”, “Alligator Al”, “ Hollywood” and most notable, “Quick Mick!” Mickey wore a “Shield of Armor” on the outside but if his family or a friend needed him he was there. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #3, Moose Jaw Shrine Club and the Moose Jaw Shrine Club Equestrian Unit. Mickey was predeceased by his Dad, George, grandparents, John Mintenko, W.H. and Irene Johnstone as well as several aunts and uncles. Mickey will be lovingly remembered and his memory cherished by his children: Dustin and Dylan Mintenko and their mother, Leslie, Devon Falasca and his mother Andrea. By his Mom, Jean Mintenko (Jack York); brothers and sisters: Stephanie (Harvey) Schofer, Doug (Teresa Marie) Mintenko, Robbyn (Jeff) Cresta, Lori (Brad) Bowden, Geri (Mark) Musson, Ralph Mintenko, grandmother, Elizabeth Mintenko; nieces and nephews: Lisa (James) Morgan, Stesha Toledo (Sean), Derek (Mei-Ling), Jered and Carlie (Jordan) Mintenko, Mitch, Reanna and Riley Bowden, Kelly and Jenny Nikolic, Matt and Jason Mintenko; great-nieces and nephews: Brittany, Ryan and Brooklyn Morgan and Jade Toledo, as well as all his friends and “Buddies” A Celebration of Mickey’s Life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion United Church, 423 Main Street North, Moose Jaw. Linda Owens will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date.
