Gertrude (Gertie) Barber of Pioneers Lodge, passed away on July 4, 2004 at the age of 89. Gertie was born and raised in the Camalachie district on April 13, 1915. She married Bob on August 16, 1939 and they lived in Moose Jaw where they raised two children, Dale and Marlene. Gertie worked at Eaton’s in the grocery dept. and later in the men’s wear until her retirement. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Bob in 1997, her mother Bertha, father William Edward, brother William (Esther), twin brother Gerald (Edna), sister Dorothy, brothers-in-law Les, Jack, Stout, and sisters-in-law Meg and Ev. She will be sadly missed by: Dale (Kay), and Marlene (Don), six grandchildren: Carol (Ian), Janice (Mike), Robbie, Don (Ange), Mike (Kay), Darren (Carrie); thirteen special great-grandchildren: Jordan, Kevin, Bailey, Cori, Kyle, Brianne, Taylor, Carson, Campbell, Layne, Jayden, Dawsyn, and Kaedon; three brothers-in-law, Hec (Ruby), Mac (Greta), Gord (Monica) and John; two sisters-in-law, Isa Johnson and Agnes Barber, as well as several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Thursday July 8, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In living memory of Gertie, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
MARGUERITE DIETZEL
Marguerite Viola Dietzel, (nee Chase), entered into rest peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on June 22, 2005 in her 84th year. Courageously and with dignity, she fought many battles, and she proudly lived life on her own terms. Those who have been touched by her generosity, loyalty, strength, love, and friendship are better people for having known her. Predeceased by her husband, Mannfred Dietzel, and son James Dietzel; parents Arthur and Augusta Chase of Meyronne, SK; and brothers, Ronald, Lloyd and Leonard Chase. She is survived by son, Thomas Dietzel of Belleville, ON, and his two children, her beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Jascha; sister, Elizabeth Keeler of Moose Jaw; and brother, Ralph (Annette) Chase of Sherwood Park, AB. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Friends are invited to join with the family for a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph’s RC Church on Thursday June 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Father Michael Conteh will officiate. MELVIN BRAIN
Melvin Brain, of Central Butte and formerly of the Keeler district, passed away February 12, 2005 at the age of 78 years. Mel was born in Tisdale, SK on September 14, 1926. He joined the Navy during WWII and after the War moved to Ontario. Mel then moved back to Saskatchewan where he married Faye Skeoch in 1959 and they made their home in Saskatoon until moving to Keeler where they took over the Skeoch family farm. They continued to farm until retiring in 1985. They moved to Central Butte in 1989. Mel is predeceased by his wife Faye, his parents, brother Harold, brothers-in-law Sonny and Donny Skeoch, and sisters-in-law May Brain and Margaret Skeoch. He is survived by his aunt Merle Marshall, brother-in-law, Jimmy Skeoch; nieces, Judy (Michael) Heart and Sheryl (Mike) Kotelko; cousins, Ed (Lucille) Brain, June (Phil) Stappler, Bill (Shirley) Marshall, Debbie (Randy) Elder; and Evelyn (Bud) Snow; and other numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; also special friends Carol and Mel Milne and family of Central Butte. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday February 17, 2005 at 11:00 am. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Stan Skrill. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated. In living memory of Mel, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. SAM LAWRENCE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of SAM LAWRENCE on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the age of 47, after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Thelma Lawrence and brother, Art. Sam is survived by his loving wife, Karen and son, Shawn; brothers: Ken (Joanne), Ed (Donna), George and Oliver, one sister, Maria (Nick), father and mother-in-law, Walter (Joyce) Alm; brothers-in-law: Gary Alm and Blair (Kari) Alm, sister-in-law, Renee (Hal) Walters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Lucy Julia Stillar passed away June 18, 2005 at the age of 91 years. She was born July 15, 1913 in East Selkirk, Manitoba, the daughter of the late Nicolau and Anastasia Hawryluk (Haverluck). She is predeceased by her brothers, John, Bill and Jim Haverluck; sisters, Polly Holowchuk, Mary Rockwell, Annie Zuk, Rose Koval, Kay Bladon, Helen Sanden, and Sophie Haverluck (at birth); husband, Cecil Stillar; daughters, Dorothy Stillar, Wilma Stillar (at birth), and son, Gilbert Stillar. She is survived by brother, Tom Haverluck – Dauphin, MB; granddaughter, Michele (Donald) MacKinnon – Pictou Landing, NS; grandsons: David (Ramona) Stillar – Medicine Hat, AB; Deane (Cathy) Stillar – Calgary, AB; great-grandchildren: Matthew MacKinnon – Calgary, AB; Adam MacKinnon – Halifax, NS; Seane and Noah Stillar – Medicine Hat, AB; daughter-in-law, Anne Stillar-Stow – Moose Jaw; dear friend Phyllis Heath – Moose Jaw; special niece Bunny (Ted) Commisso – Thunder Bay, ON; and many nieces and nephews. A Private Family Service will be held on Wednesday June 22, 2005 at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Della Ferguson will officiate. ERNEST CHRISTIAN HACK of Moose Jaw, passed away at home on Thursday February 26, 2004, at the age of 81 years. A private family graveside service will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association, or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. RAYMOND GROBOWSKY
Following a lengthy illness, RAYMOND JOSEPH GROBOWSKY died in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Friday, April 15, 2005 . Ray, as he was known, was born February 2, 1937 in Shaunavon where he attended school, graduating in 1955. In high school, he played defense on the basketball team which twice took the Provincial A championships. In later years he took up the sport of archery, earning trophies and titles, including provincial target archery championships in the early 70's. His career with heating and power plants began in Winnipeg and took him to Ottawa, Ontario, Swift Current, Fort Qu'Appelle, Yorkton, Summerside, Prince Edward Island and finally Moose Jaw, where he retired. The twinkle in his eye hinted at his sense of humour which often caught people unaware, reeling them in just as he reeled many a fish at his favourite outdoor activity. Predeceased by his father, Joseph, and his eldest son, Clinton, Ray is survived by his wife, Irene, his mother, Veronica Grobowsky - Shaunavon; two sons: Brian (JoAnne) - Moose Jaw and Jeffrey (Renee) - Yorkton; two brothers: Jack (Gayle) - Freeport, the Bahamas and Vern (Judy) - Rivers, Manitoba; three sisters: Eva (Jerry) Hutchison - Gilbert, Arizona, Reta (Robert) Kirk - Edmonton and Linda (Ray) Hanlon - Swift Current; sisters-in-law: Belle (Peter) Schmidt - Kirkland, Washington and Kathy (Phil) Pendleton - Hillsboro, Texas, three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Reverend Father Michael Conteh will officiate. Prayers will be held Wednesday, evening (April 20th) at 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Festival of Words, 217 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, S6H 0W1 .
